The EASIEST Way to Add Zimmerit to Your Panzer Models | 1/35 Scale Modeling Tutorial

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- In this video, we'll learn a great, beginner-friendly & cost-effective approach to replicating Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste to your 1/35 plastic scale model German Panzer tanks. Starting in the winter of 1943, the German armaments industry applied this special paste to nearly every major tank, tank destroyer & SPG rolling out of factories across Europe. If you're at all interested in modeling German tanks from WWII, then sooner or later you're going to need to make some Zimmerit!

Hey Hank, I wasn't aware Tamiya did as many sets specific to each vehicle which is of course good to know, and I'm now impatiently waiting for Part 2. Cheers Mate from NZ
It certainly looks great! Much better than my efforts in the 70s making zimmerit with a hot soldering tip😅
Oh wow! I'd love to see that done!
@@SpruesNBrews I did this early on my Monogram 32nd armor kits back then & it came out OK!🥳
Much later I moved to putty & stamps etc...
I believe Tamiya also offers a set that can be glued on with extra thin cement. The zimmerit application was 5mm thick, which converts to .14 mm in 1/35, so these kits are the closest you can probably get to “real” thickness. Thanks for the video, a great review!
yeah they ok,I prefer trumpeter sheets as you can cut what u like...tho putty zimmerit is fun
Looking forward to next installment.. certainly hope I didn’t miss .. great videos with tutorials Hank..👍
I have an Academy Panzer IV H kit in my stash, which came with a sheet of zimmerit waterslidedecals inckuded in the kit.
Haven't started to build it yet, but the zimmerit really does look good.
I got a similar set from an internet individual for the Monogram panzer 4 it came out pretty good. The set even works on the 21st century toys pnzer4 which are very close to the Monogram kits. He was very helpful and was going to make other sets.
Great FYI! That Panther D looked great!! Can't wait to see the final result of your Panzer IV J.
These sets work nicely with other kit manufacturers, as well with a little adjustment. I used one of the Tamiya sets with my Meng Panther D.
never skip a history lesson! another awesome video hank!
Haha thank you!

lappin is right. Don't ever hesitate including some history in your modeling videos. The two go hand-in-hand.
I would suggest that you get a cuticle pusher or a tongue depressor for pressing stickers (or decals) into tight spaces instead of the back of an exacto blade. Having been cut by a hobby knife, I can tell you that it is painful and can happen quickly. So take my advice and be safe when you can.
You definitely have to be careful, you're right!
Great explanation of why zimmerit was developed. Too often I've heard people say "The Russians had magnetic mines/grenades, therefore. . . " , when that's really just not true.
Also, thanks so much for listing out details on what models, paints, accessories, tools, etc. you use in a video.
Thanks very much for watching - I appreciate it!
Thanks for the awesome video and especially all the links!
Thank you - glad to hear they were helpful!

Hi Hank, that was a excellent tutorial, I assume you will be doing a painting episode, well I hope you are, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👌👍👌👍
It makes sense to go to ATAK where they make one product, zimmerit. I use them all the time and if they do not have exactly what you want, for instance, you have a Tamiya kit and all they have is Zimmerit products for Academy, make it fit. Gaps can be easily filled by mixing up Tamiya paste with Tamiya glue, apply carefully then used a Zimmerit roller or some other tool that is able to replicate the zimmerit. I notice that using these stickers made by Tamiya, there are not 3D (not printed) parts like the Gun mantlet, the hull turret gun, part for the rear of the tank. Some of ATAK products include a full turret that will allow you to use the kit parts in the same way that the kit calls for. ATAK is a little more than twice the price of the Tamiya sheets but offers far, far more.
Interesting but I'm not certain Tamiya's zimmerit stickers actually present the depth of zimmerit and it looks a little uniform for my liking, I've been using ATAK zimmerit which is far better, yes, it costs that bit more and they don't cater to every kit but it looks superb when fitted correctly and they also include resin parts with the zimmerit pattern present for the more challenging parts.
Great information as always Hank
Thank you - glad to hear it!!
Thank you for sharing Hank, very well done.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
Ive actually seen ww2 footage of a cromwell,or comet that had zimmerit...think was on World At War series with narration by Sir laurence olivier
I tied the zimmerit sticker method for my 1/35 Panther G (the Tamiya one) I didn’t really enjoy it tbh I’ve always enjoyed modelling zimmerit by hand as it also has that hand crafted feel. I found the stickers to be annoying to cut out and apply. I’ll always prefer to model zimmerit by hand.
Should I order the zimmerit for the Panzer IV Ausf. J?
Wow! I never knew this product existed, and I'm kind of a Tamiya nerd.
It's a great product - check it out!
Keep up the good work
Another great video on zimmeret
Thank you!

Hey Hank - great video love this idea, cheers Liam
Much appreciated - thanks for watching!
@@SpruesNBrews pleasure - looking forward to the next instalment 🤣
What if it is a panzer IV auf H?
oh what this are stickers? haha I have like 5 sheets for different kits here but did not come around to building one of these kits.
I can recomment atak Zimmerit (Resin ultra thin) and also the decals from Meng, which need to be fixed with some glue additionally to have them fixed long term.
Ah that's great! Thanks for the recommendation!
Nice throwback jersey. Ebbets Field Flannels?
THANKS SO MUCH THANK YOU THANK YOU
Haha I'm glad to hear it's helpful!
Do you paint over the zimmert of under it i ams till struggling abou that
Apply all zimmerit before painting 👍
Do i have to put it on before painting or after painting? Becouse i see people doing it on unpainted models...
I’m guessing you put them on first then paint . Not sure they’re transparent enough to show the paint job underneath if you painted it first
Great video
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Any issues with edge pealing in your experience? Used these stickers on the Tamiya Elefant, overall I’m happy with it but after priming noticed quite a few areas on which the edges were lifting and not really staying. I ended up touching up with super glue, I’m wondering if this is a universal experience or first time user error.
Hmm - I haven't had issues with the product peeling so far, but that's definitely something to look out for!
Thank you. I just bought a jagdPanther.
Oh fun - enjoy!
Much of the early zimmerit was applied by the crews, early on.
It's really cool.
Thanks! I really love this stuff 👍
Can I use these tamiya stickers for italeri set?
They're not technically designed for the Italeri set, but with a little tweaking, I'm sure you could make them work!
What about painting? You just paint over them?
Yes. They have grooves so you will still see them with paint on.
Never tried, someone suggested water with a drop of soap so you can float like a decal.
Ay. Look at the bright side. It was not total waste. It atleast gave us something to make out german tonk more intresting
Ha! 😅
🎈🎈👍👍😄😄😃👏😇
666th like. Hail Stan.
No sir. This is not the easiest way. I've ordered from Tamiya and after waiting for more than a year I have to make my own. On to the next tutorial video....
