My grandfather use to do this 60 years ago with aluminum foil, but I like your method better because you can see if it is rooting before you open it up.
or your grandfather just should have used the air layering boxes from myfirsttree.com :D just joking it's actually amazing that he knew about this procedure 60 years ago in Asia they do that for centuries but this knowledge was not spread over the western world.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I live in Malta and my trees are in full growth now, in fact I harvested some this morning. I will air lay next week and will keep you posted. Thanks once again
True! I watched a lot of tutorials in this topic and this one is really one of the best. What I don't understand is why people don't make their lives so much easier with the air layering boxes myfirsttree.com sells. I mean it's a gadget specially made for the procedure to ensure that the cutting will survive and if you do a tutorial I would recommend to a newbie to use the best tools from the beginnig.
Awesome! I tried some air-layering for the first time, and I was unsuccessful on all six! 😑 Gonna try again. I like the balls of squeezed soil, and the tightness with the packing tape. I also didn’t rough up the branch after stripping the bark away. Learning! Thanks!
Great video, unfortunately I couldn't hear anything after the music at the beginning ended. Still visually informative, and I loved the perfectly ready root ball it created.

This is a good method as the bag is already prepared on the tree which makes adding the soil or moss around the branch much easier. Thanks for the video. One thing I don't understand is why you wrap the plastic wrap over the other plastic bag. That step doesn't seem necessary at all.
this is necessary for two reason , first it is taking out most of air from the bag since it is pushing the bag to the soil and branch , the other reason is to press the soil as much possible to push any extra water out , because in most of the cases that this method is failed is because of extra water which may rotten the roots after it is developed , thats the reason we even create small hole by the blade under side of the bag after this step.

Mr D vision, I'm looking for a video about air layering where the the intended branch is cut from the tree , an airlayer surgery is performed say about 10 center meters above the cut so the branch can be put in water to feed the top foliage as the roots grow in the airlayer bandage. See if you can find a video on that and duplicate an airlayer using that procedure . Also try an air layer with applied heat to the bandaged dirt ball . See if you get quicker results

Nice Video for the beginners , what time(season) is best for air layering, and planting in the Permanent Field .?
the best time for air layering is basically is before the tree comes out from its winter sleep so just few days before end of winter is best time . however it can be done in other seasons too just avoid very hot temperature time . about the second question the answer is , that you have to check if the air layering is completed and you have a very good amount of root is developed ( specially you should have the tiny roots too) then is the time to plant it to permanent place .
use aluminium foil to cover the layer instead of the plastic and tapes. the foil is easy to remove and keeps away the light. just a suggestion
Thanks for you suggestion but also one of the reason I use plastic and tape to put pressure on the soil that will push the soil to the air layer branch and also will result to drain extra water from the soil , if the soil is too wet the roots will get rotten,
یہ کس مہنے میں کیا جاتا ہے
In how many days the air layering stem will cut
with the air layering boxes from myfirsttree.com it only takes like 15 days. on other youtube tutorials I saw results taking like 4-5 weeks.
