    As a real Boeing and Airbus pilot, I love Airbus more if we’re talking about comfort and user friendly interfaces. If I were to fly in an emergency, I prefer Boeing. When I grab the yoke of a Boeing, the plane does not argue with me, resist my input or “think about it.” I have never had to compete with a computer for control on a Boeing. Dont get me wrong, I love both aircraft.

    I really like Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, if It's aviation I love it. Of all of them I personally prefer Boeing. And that's a really biased statement because my Grandfather worked for Boeing. If it weren't for that I would be pretty close to liking them both.

    Coming from a GA, military and flying the 737 commercially background, Ive experienced different philosophies. The F/A-18 and combat aircraft in general are much more “Airbussy” than you would think. More times than not, the computer is deploying your ordinance payload, your just driving the bomb bus. The 73 is just so uncomfortable for anything over 2 hrs. If my airline had opted to bring in baby buses, I’d have volunteered to fly them. My heart would always belong to Boeing, but their is a lot to be said for being able to walk upright. But I’m tall, a smaller person would probably be fine.

  • @Username-ww2cd
    @Username-ww2cd 4 роки тому +2

    In my opinion, Airbus cockpits look cooler (especially at night), they are clearly much more spacious and comfortable for pilots, I love the sidestick as it allows space for a traytable, I prefer the dark cockpit philosophy with pushbuttons, the ECAM is an excellent helpful tool, the displays look better, the autopilot system makes more sense (AP1 and AP2 instead of LNAV, VNAV, all the CMD options and the lack of the course knob making things simpler). In an emergency, I would also much rather be in an airbus - it tells you what is happening and literally gives you a lift of responses. And airbuses are more comforable for passengers in my opinion (in terms of a320 vs 737 and a380 vs 747).

    • @RazvanMaioru
      @RazvanMaioru 4 роки тому +1

      Two comments on that: 1. both Boeings and Airbusses have dark cockpit philosophies, the only difference is that the 737 (and earlier, but not later models) has switches that you can feel the position of rather than buttons that you have no choice but to look at to see their position. 747, 757, 767, 777, and 787 all have pushbuttons. Though on a separate note, I personally much prefer the Boeing overheads, buttons or switches, because the scanflows are much smoother, thanks to the different systems on separate subpanels in straightforward columns.
      2. AP1 and AP2 on Airbus correspond to Autopilot A and B on a 737, Autopilot Left, Center and Right on 747/757/767, and just A/P on 777/787, not the autopilot modes. The LNAV, VNAV, FLC, VOR/LOC, APP, etc. modes correspond to the different combinations of pushing in and pulling out the knobs on an airbus, and I find a single button press to get into the desired mode much easier than setting a certain combination. And as for the course knob, that's for using VORs/Localizers (hence the VOR/LOC button, and the APP button is the same as on airbus). I have no idea how you're supposed to use them without a course knob, as it's a huge part of using that kind of navaid. As for all the rest, well, an opinion's an opinion.

    I started off in the A320. I love it to this day. But I see myself now switching to Boeing simply due to manual flying. I feel the Airbus is so much more choppy, and Boeing is smooth. I fly the 787 and learning the 777. I want to learn to fly the 737 but the cockpit just looks like they randomly stuck buttons with random switches everywhere 😂 I can’t chose between boeing and Airbus.

    I started off with the 737-800 with the demo version of x-plane11. But soon i tried other simulators and converted to airbus and started flying the A320. Now i am pretty experienced with the a320 and in my opinion, i think bowing cockpits are pretty messy, but airbus cockpits are layed out, like this area is the fire test, this area is the lights, fuel, etc. But still i think we all should learn how to fly new aircraft to make your brain good with capacity and learning.

    Since I started with FS2004, I started on the 737-400. However, over time I found I loved the Airbus system… I’ve always been a techie person, and I truly appreciate the way Airbus’ systems work. However, I’ve been using Aerofly FS, they just came out with a 2022 version which now includes the Boeing 787. I’ve tried learning Boeing’s systems, and it’s definitely interesting; I’d say it’s easier to learn Boeing, then go to Airbus, rather than the other way around. Thanks for your awesome videos!

    Concerning reason 3: Besides Boeing recommending the use of A/T for landing, too, on some types (B777, B787), why don‘t you just disconnect the A/T? YOU are the pilot! My old company even has a manual flight, manual thrust policy, meaning that if you fly manually, thrust has to be controlled manually, too.

    The plane that really got me started in real flight simulation was X-Plane 11's default 737. I mastered it within a few weeks of getting the sim (for Christmas). Then I upgraded to the Zibo, and then I fell in love with the 737. It's my go-to aircraft if I want to fly (because I don't have any payware aircraft... yet) on VATSIM. I've always loved Boeing especially since I live next to Paine Field where Boeing's Everett Plant is, lol. Anyway, greetings from Everett! I like Boeing in general more, but I have really fallen in love with the A350 as of late. Airbus is incredibly subtle... At first you don't know if you're in autothrottle or if you're going to end up following the flight plan. You do get used to it and certain things I end up liking more, namely the autothrottle. You can put in input and override very easily. However Boeing is way more intuitive.

    I’m a student working on my CPL, I’ve flown c172 and pa28. I was a Boeing fan, but I have to say my training experience truly changed my feelings about airbus and its sidestick. Why the yoke is kind of annoying? 1. it’s always hitting your knees 2. Takes up a lot of space in front of you 3. You have to constant trim the airplane, otherwise the yoke will become very heavy to handle.

      @@shreethesmart2942 Even so, just because two engines fail, it doesn't mean the airbus is uncontrolable. It only is, if you play the aerosoft version.
      The airbus control surfaces rely on hydraulics. The hydraulic pressure is etablished by electricity, like it is in any modern Boeing plane too (777, 787, 747-8, and I believe the 737NGX as well).
      If both engines fail the electric pump keeps working now powered by the batteries (for the short time until the APU has started) and imediatly continues to provide hydraulic pressure to insure the controlability of the plane.
      Another common myth is that you have to compete against the airbus' flight computers.
      BS, they only prevent the aircraft from doing dangerous maneuvers like e.g. too high bank angle, too high pitch angle or too high descend rate (just to name a few) and since you don't need any of these maneuvers in emergency situation (for emergency descend in case of sudden cabin depressurisation it, of course, does not deny a high sink rate), there is no need to fight them. Even if the flight computers fail you don't have to fight them in an epic "human vs robot" way, since you can simply turn them off by the means of three switches located on the overhead panel and can still fly the aircraft with litterally unrestricted control.

    9,000 hours B767 and 1,000 hours B787. Both brilliant aircraft and as you suggest, they are pilots aeroplanes and fly in predictable and logical ways. The 787 is quite something with the application of fly by wire, it smooths out a lot of configuration and speed changes really well. The HUD is the massive leap forward from the 767 and I’m not sure if that is workable in flight sim.

      I'm not taking any sides but Boeing is easy to fly than airbus, it's like driving a car (100000000000times harder to fly any plane compared to car I was kidding) airbus don't let you control fully by yourself.
      You can ditch plane immediately to the ground in Boeing (bcoz no fbw system, mechanical connection) .
      Think about an emergency situation like this : you've got electric failure, twin engine flameout you will have no control without electricity and you are dead because of fly by wire side stick, you cannot even glide. Yokes are mechanically connected and will save your life.

      Airbus' first two airplanes the A300 and A310 had yokes which were mechanically connected to the control surfaces, but Boeings last two airplanes (777, 787) have yokes that are FBW. 🙂
      Also, if both engines flame out, you still have the APU for electrical power (like Sully did when ditching in the Hudson), and if that fails the batteries will still operate the control surfaces, but in Direct Law, meaning without any computers operating to modify pilot inputs for flight envelope protection or even to provide the proper response or feel (like the MCAS provides on the Boeing 737 MAX). Flying in Direct Law mode can be like flying a totally different airplane with a totally different type rating, which pilots are typically not used to. It was the cause of the infamous Air Asia crash where the pilot decided to reboot the flight control computers in mid-flight to clear a fault message, and lost control while in Direct Law while the reboot was in progress.

    I also prefer Boeing for many of the same reasons you do, but I am a bit older than you and remember my neighbors taking me to O'Hare Field to see America's first jetliner the 707. I was so impressed and couldn't believe how big it was compared to the prop liners of that era. The 707 is still my aircraft of choice in Flight Simulator, but I haven't found one yet for the latest version of 2020, so hopefully someone will come out with one. I just downloaded the latest version of FS 2020, and so far I have not even been able to taxi around the airport or even fly which is why I am watching a lot of videos about it on You Tube. I have been using Flight Simulator since their first version, and eventually I learned how to do scenery design since I wanted the airports I was flying to, to be realistic. I think it was FS 2004 where I created most of my scenery in, but after that my stuff no longer worked in later versions and I would have had to learn all new programs, so it just kind of fell by the wayside. In Flight Simulator X I bought a Mega Scenery of Southern California where I live now and flew mostly between Los Angeles and San Diego which was all very familiar territory for me, but then the game just kind of went by the wayside with Microsoft, so I tried X-Plane, but hated it, so I never used it. When I heard about FS 2020 I got very excited, so I'm finally getting back into it, but it is very different than previous versions, and I don't have my flight yolk set up yet so I am just kind of easing into it. Boeing also makes the best looking planes, and I was glad to see the MD-80's being retired since they were very ugly. Airbus with the 319 and 320 series are also ugly with their bulbous noses and more forward mounted wings. I also prefer a yolk rather than a joystick. Thanks for your video, I gave it a thumbs up.

    Started with PDMG 737-800 (with hud👍). Its a great plane and I had a lot of fun, but still switched to Aerosoft A319 and some time ago to A320. Since I only have a flightstick and no flightyoke using Airbus feels more realistic to me.
    Also for Airbus its not so importent to feel g-forces, which we cannot simulate with a simple desktop sim.
    And for me the airbus workflow is more structured and logical. Even without checklist its difficult to forget something if you set up for a flight phase.
    Btw Airbus A318, A319, A320, A321 and A330 all have the same layout except some minor systems depending on configuration choices by the airlines.

    Fair enough - I loved the Level D 767 too. Such a shame it’s not compatible with P3Dv4. All of the PMDG Boeing aircraft are a joy to fly. Of course not all flight simulation aircraft are created equal and I don’t think you can judge Airbus properly from the Aerosoft version (though it’s good visually and for frame rates).
    I’ve fallen in love with the FSLabs A320. The immersion, realism and depth of system simulations is something else. I know I sound like a fanboy but the Air Traffic Service Unit (ATSU) features in the latest update, allowing you to request and receive pre departure clearance, order and check fuel via GSX and request performance calculations, have lifted it to another level. Yes, it’s very expensive but worth it in my opinion. Definitely my favourite aircraft in P3D. 🤔

      Would love to see a proper 767 sometime for P3D :) I am not just making that comparison between PMDG and Aerosoft though, it’s also based on simulator experience in both. And even when I do, I keep in the back of my mind that their level of detail differ, yet I do believe that the Aerosoft provides a great sense of what an Airbus feels like, at least in basic operations flying from A to B.

      You may want to get your hands on the Bombardier CSeries (Airbus A220), which combines moving throttles and fly-by-wire, Airbus-style soft limits, Boeing-style flight control laws mated to a sidestick (but no force-feedback). This ultimately feels and hand-flies as a traditional aircraft. Pilots may also appreciate the big wings and huge bypass turbofans which give this aircraft phenomenal short-field performance and climbs fast straight to cruise altitude (typically FL400/410).

    The logical design and the behaviour of the MCP , the FMC , the throttle give me a better sense of control and is more comprehensive , especially in emergency situation.
    The fly by wire of Airbus May be confusing as you don't see what the pilot flying is doing ....remember Air France Rio Paris !

    So my journey in flightsims startet in FSX i loved flying the pmdg 737 and also grew up with the Boeing 747 in FSX. Now in xp11 i still prefer Boeing over other planes and i couldnt explain it better. I remember my first time trying the A320 in xp11. In some points i was shocked. My freind who flies Airbus all the time explained everything to me and while programming the route in the MCDU I asked him where to put all the little information for the fuel and vspeeds and stuff and i remembered him saying: You dont have to do anything the computer does it for you.

    My reasons for flying Airbus are pretty much identical. My first payware was Aerosoft A320 for FSX and that is aircraft I learned how to fly airliners and different procedures (IFR, VOR, ILS, SID and STAR etc). I do love how Airbus cockpit looks and I like how basically every Aibrus from A319 all the way up to A380 have same look and things are about the same. I only recently got into Boeing when Zibo made famous free add on for X-Plane 11. I do like to fly it every now and then and I do see charm of 737 but I still feel more home in cockpit of A320.
    I also think one reason is what type of aircraft your "home airline" uses. As you live in Netherlands I bet KLM has to be close to your heart and they mainly use Boeing. I live in Finland so Finnair is very close to my heart and their fleet is almost entirely Airbus.
    Both manufacturers have their pros and cons and after all we are flying on same sky because we are passionate about flying!

    Hi Aviation Pro, you are absolutely correct, i believe same since last 4 yrs i'm only flying Boeing B737 in xplane & P3D personally to me Airbus is less complex than boeing and Airbus cockpit looks more plastic where as an example B737 cockpit looks more metallic design all the button and Nobs, challenging to fly where Airbus is fly by wire quit easy to fly auto pilot do more stuff then boeing, i'm a serious flight simmers so i don't change aircraft often, i prefer to learn about 1 particular aircraft more and more... and i will fly many more years with B737-800

    I Agree I prefer Boeing to say Airbus, for practical reasons,you can manually fly a boeing in the event of a engine loss for example say a Bird strikewhere as a air bus would just fall out of the sky as everything is computer controled , ie meaning you cant manually fly or even do a forced landing, it has no manual control if it came to it a airbus would just crash end of story.

  • @OriginalRazzel

    Boeing fan here but I have yet to fly an airbus, I'm still learning. I really enjoy the flow of the panels in Boeing. The 777 F is my favourite to do long haul on vatsim. Learnt on the 738 and the move to the 777 felt natural. Since the Zibo mod is free, i got hooked on Boeing. Got to hand it to him, it's an amazing plane for free. Anyway I don't think it would feel right to fly an airbus with my Saitek yolk, and I don't want to go back to just a flight stick :D

  • @2406flohoho
    @2406flohoho 5 років тому +1

    Reason #5 has the biggest point in my opinion. Not only does this apply to understanding systems, having flown a Boeing in the beginning (after flight training obviously) also includes withstanding higher workload than in the airbus. In my former airline, when the last 737s were taken out of service, as a former Boeing F/O it was possible to become a captain WHILE achieving the airbus type rating. This would not have been possible the other way round. An A320-F/O would not have been allowed to switch to the 737 and getting CAPT-upgraded at the same time. :)

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  5 років тому

      Saved best for last ;). That's indeed interesting! That's why many airlines also only allow you to fly one or two particular aircraft types, even though you would be able to get multiple type ratings I guess, to prevent confusion in the operation of the aircraft :)

    • @2406flohoho
      @2406flohoho 5 років тому

      That‘s correct. There are basically three things that have to be (almost) identical from type to type in order to allow multiple type ratings: systems, cockpit layout and (VERY important) memory items in operation.
      Personally, I‘m a fan of Boeing as well. I didn’t like having to switch to the airbus at first. Now, I have to admit that I clearly see the advantages. Workload decreased insanely and tbh: I love the table in the cockpit. That’s kind of a deal maker. ;) Nevertheless I‘d also love to fly a Boeing again. But these days, european pilot market won‘t always allow you to freely choose the plane you fly. It‘s rather a matter of employment or unemployment. But we‘ll see what the future brings.

    Yeh. Given the choice between Boeing and Airbus, I'll take Boeing.
    There's one main reason: My first really high-end aircraft I bought was the PMDG737. Shortly after that I bought their 777. From then on I just never got on with the Airbuses. The Boeings always just felt like the default to me. The benchmark from which all others must compare.
    I realise in actually what I'm doing is comparing Airbus sims to the PMDG ones, which is a very different thing and frankly slightly unfair given the latter's sheer quality, but this attitude is do ingrained now that I feel even if I were a professional pilot, had I the chance to experience both I would definitely enjoy the Boeings more. Much more.

For a passenger, airbus feels much more stable, confortable and safe then boeing. Even the landings comparing 737 with the a320, in the boeing 737 all the landings seems more hard then with the a320. Guess it has something to do with the hight of the plane since boeing 737 is not as high as the a320. The 737, MAX, 777, 787 are uniquely distinct and different.With Airbus, it not only looks bland but sitting there you can’t tell if you’re in an A319 or A330! Not much love for that. That being said...Airbus and Embraer cockpit philosophies are superior and easier to learn. I own the Majestic Q400, and I always have difficulty relearning it. Meanwhile, I haven’t touched an airbus since the old PSS days and I could easily jump back into it today if I wanted to without reading the manual.

    I Prefer Boeing to and basically for the Same reason. First i like the looks of the Aircraft and the flight Deck more on Boring and i just love to have a Yoke in front of me. And Second I started the flying and learning the Study-Level Aircraft with the PMDG 777 and 737 so I'm just love them. Another Reason is that i love Study-Level aircraft as i want to have the most realistic experience and the learn the different systems and share the process. But these Aircraft are understandably expensive and you can fly only one Aircraft at the time. So in my case I have the PMDG 737 / 747 / 777 and the A2A Comanche and C172 and with the Limited time i can't fly them all so its usually the 737 or Comanche (I Absolutely love those Planes) so adding Airbus into the virtual hangar wouldn't make sense as i would probably not fly them so often that it would worth the investment.

The rest are your average "if you don't look at it you have no idea what position it's in" buttons.

    PS: your #5 you said if you fly 737 you can fly 747,767,787. Well 747 and so on, is way different than 737. In real life you need 2-3 months of training while Airbus 320 has almost the same cockpit as A330 and you need just a week to get type rating. So this one is better on an Airbus.

      I was of course refering to flightsim only, but yes it does indeed take quite a bit of training to update! :) However, I'm sure all Boeings look and feel familiar in some, and the same in Airbus, but perhaps the A320 and A330 even more so. Looking forward to try the Aerosoft A330 once it's out.

      @@AviationPro Having identical cockpits across all aircraft is one of Airbus USPs. If you look at the A320 vs. A330 cockpit, there's almost no difference. That is so it's cheaper and quicker for airlines to retrain their pilots for a new rating. An A318 pilot can hop into an A340 simulator and get his rating with minimal effort.

      Well Boeing also has points in that area. While Airbus a320 and a330 cockpits are similar, Boeing 757/67 cockpits are literally identical. Ad the 777x and 787 also have really similar cockpits. So its just a tit for tat situation with identical cockpits.
