Foi no mito grego, uma das primeiras personificações femininas pré-olímpicas do mar Mediterrâneo e, por extensão, de todo o oceano. Era filha do Éter com Hêmera.
Com Pontos, ela foi a mãe de todos os peixes e seres do mar, da ninfa Hália, às vezes também do gigante Egeon, a personificação do mar Egeu e dos nove Telquines.
Quando o sêmen de Urano a fecundou, ela teve Dione, a deusa das ninfas.
Outra versão coloca Dione como uma das oceânidas e essa mesma versão coloca Tálassa como mãe de Afrodite com Urano.
Thalassa (Greek: θάλασσα, Θάλασση or Θάλαττη, "sea").
In Greek myth, she was one of the first pre-Olympic female personifications of the Mediterranean Sea and, by extension, of the entire ocean. She was the daughter of Aether and Hemera.
With Pontos, she was the mother of all fish and sea creatures, of the nymph Halia, sometimes also of the giant Aegeon, the personification of the Aegean Sea, and of the nine Telchines.
When Uranus' semen fertilized her, she gave birth to Dione, the goddess of the nymphs.
Another version places Dione as one of the Oceanids, and this same version places Thalassa as the mother of Aphrodite with Uranus.
