I am a combat vet. My father was 82nd Airborne WW II my brother was 173rd Airborne - Vietnam and I was 82nd Airborne - Vietnam . Thank you for this and may God bless you both for the rest of your life
When Heffron and Gaurnere revisited the woods outside of Foy, Bill told the camera crew to keep an eye out for his leg and to let him know if they find it! LOL
What a Man! Malarkey said it Best that Gaurnere and Joe Toy where some of the bravest Man in the Company! Nothing but Respect for these Men!🙏👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We absolutely LOVE this series, watch it at least a few times per year. Me and my cousin stole the box set from my dad thinking it would just be a fun action series, we watched the whole thing in a little over 24 hours.
How can a person not just love, respect, and admire these men! They may not believe themselves to have been heros, but they are. They absolutely are. Real men. Good men. I would have loved to spent time with each of them hearing their stories about their lives. They are all amazing people and what wisdom and insight into life these men surely had. God bless them.
In 2002's Primetime Emmy Awards, Band of Brothers won Best Miniseries; both Hanks and Spielberg had Winters do the acceptance speech while his company of men, surviving members of Easy Company were nearby hotel looked on.... Camera pointed at them, as Winters done his speech. Everyone, all the celebrities, writers, and directors gave them a huge standing ovation!! They won Best of everything because they saved the world from a madman.
I was stationed in Anchorage in the 90’s. The girl I dated, her Dad had a cabin in Ketchikan. I wish I could have gone back to visit when I was back this summer.
Nice reaction video. Thanks for sharing. I've been to Ketchikan. Such beautiful country where you live! Up until earlier this year i was living in the Pacific Northwest (Washington), about an hour north of Seattle, same city actually where Buck Compton (depicted in the movie) was living until the end of his life in 2012. How cool it would have been to meet so many of these men. So few veterans remaining today. And one of the greatest productions ever made for television. It makes you so aware and grateful for that generation; makes you want to talk to as many of them as possible (all in their 90s now, if still living) and hear their stories. God Bless
I have massive regret that I was never able to reach out to any of these men and express my gratitude and admiration, now I shower our current vets with thanks and praise.
Ed Tipper's daughter, Kerry Tipper who was shown in this documentary is currently a politician in the Colorado House of Representatives. Correction, she's a former member, recently she was appointed Denver Deputy City Attorney.
One vet stated that he is an only child; after WWII, Pentagon enacted new policy called Sole Survivor Policy making vets like him ineligible for service. Policy stated that families with an only child, son or now daughter cannot be drafted or enlisted into service. Policy was enacted after cases of brothers been killed in actions with two well-known: Sullivans and Borgstroms.
Another interesting and entertaining feature on UA-cam was a “video diary” done by Ron Livingston about the 2 week training period for the cast. You get to see Nixon’s wife, Grace, and see how the actors all bonded together.
@@firstcityviews I remember when I first saw it on dvd.! I really appreciated that each episode included visuals of a map of the area involved, a timeline of the events in that episode, explanations of soldier ranks, definitions of military terms and slang used, and other detailed information that increased my understanding. @@Dej24601 I bought the box set for my dad for Christmas one year. It sat unopened on his shelf for 2 or 3 years because he's more a fan of old John Wayne war movies. One night out of boredom me and my cousin swiped it from their house thinking it would just be a fun watch. We ended up watching the entire series in a little under 48 hours. I think we got through the first 6 episodes in the first night. This series has a special place in my heart, my dad has still never seen it LOL.
@@firstcityviews wow! Great memory. Maybe if your Dad sees Saving Private Ryan, he might be curious to try BOB. Hanks & Spielberg were inspired to create BOB after doing SPR.

And kids growing up (at a specific age) should be shown documentarys like that. Let the past have the right impact for the future.
The official podcast is really solid as well. Lots of interviews with the actors and EP Erik Jendresen. The host took some getting used to, but the interviews are brilliant. I’m not sure if your knowledge of the Compton/McDonough coincidences includes the fact that just after BoB, he played a LA district attorney on the short lived Boomtown, but I found that interesting.
I've seen a few clips from the podcast, definitely need to check out more of it, and yes I remember him talking about how he played a district attorney, can't remember much of the other coincidences but I know there were many.
01:41 I just subbed b/c of you guys doing this, but mostly b/c you said you're gonna do The Pacific. You snared me in there. As a former Marine, I'm here for it! Looking fwd to this reaction, tho, now.
I'm assuming you've listened to the HBO BOB podcast? It got released about 1-2 years ago. It's 10 episodes, appropriately, and each episode is an interview with a different cast/production stff memeber (including Tom Hanks, Neal McDonough, Damian Lewis, and Matthew Settle, Speirs' actor). In the one with Wild Bill's actor he tells some fantastic stories about the real Guarnere, with whom he was in a close relationship with, and about the time when the real Guarnere and Heffron came to visit the BOB set. It's really good
I (Tracy, the guy) have seen it but it was a LONG time ago and I was going through some pretty heavy personal stuff, so I don't know how much I retained. Kelly has not seen it, so it is DEFINITELY on the list.
We play a game when we meet new people, the person introducing us says "this is Tracy and Kelly" and we quickly interject with "guess who is who!" They usually guess correctly though.
@@rollomaughfling380 It's cool, we're buddies. It's actually a comment that has come up a lot. Trust me, I've been through grade school as a boy named Tracy, if it bothered me that much I would have offed myself by now lol.
Hahaha, I already have been chastised for talking too much during a reaction to a film I've already seen, go check out our Saving Private Ryan video, plenty of angry people who did not appreciate my more in depth analysis. I'm not sure anyone would enjoy us rewatching BoB, it would just be a lot of "Oh I love this part!". I might try to do an entire series review where we watch short clips and talk about our favorite parts. We are probably going to watch The Pacific.

These men are truly part of our greatest generation. IMHO there is no question about that.
100%
They weren't part of it, they were the reason for it.

I've heard that, she seems so young in the documentary but I guess it was filmed a long time ago.
@@firstcityviews ive heard that Ed Tipper had remarried a younger woman and she was born later in his life.
According to Babe, Jim Campbell received a "Dear John" letter from his wife two days before he was killed.
Brutal...
The series is called Masters of the Air, 8th Air Force based in England, also based on a book. USAF Vet.
Is the series out yet? I definitely want to check it out.
Apparently what the US soldiers didn't know about the leg bag was to hold it when jumping out and then letting it dangle.
That's wild!
