Interesting fact about Winters that gives a big idea as to why he was such a good leader...he enlisted in August of 1941 and completed training as an enlisted man, then he remained at the camp where he trained to help train other men after him. He was selected for Officer Candidate School in April 1942, and after he finished that training and became an officer in July 1942 he volunteered for the Airborne...so when we see him as a Platoon Leader in Easy, that is his third set of training that Winters is undergoing. Also...in case nobody mentions it, "Easy" was just the way that the US Army referred to the E Company in each Regiment. Companies, usually 9 of them, were lettered in each Regiment...A Company thru usually I Company...and each company had a standard phonetic name that was used to refer to them based on the letter of that company...so pretty much all the A Companies in the US Army were called "Able Company" and all the B Companies were "Baker" and all E Companies were "Easy". But of course, there was only one Easy Company that we are worried about for this show.
You can go to Camp Currahee in Toccoa, Georgia. They have rebuilt part of the training camp. They still have part of the trail that leads to the top of Mount Currahee which the paratroopers ran. I can tell you that coming back down the trail wasn’t much easier than going up because you still have to run up hill even when going back down.
I'm a combat veteran and as you watch this and start to know who everyone is I promise you that you are going to start feeling like your a member of this unit. You will feel the pain ,sadness and fright that they have. Please try to remember I said this to you. May God bless you
You're in for a ride. Currahee is derived from a corruption of a word in Cherokee. It does mean, "We stand alone," which is an ingenious motto for a regiment of paratroopers, who are deployed behind enemy lines to secure areas ahead of the rest of the army. Captain Sobel's training was hard, but every man in Easy said that was what got them past D-Day. Credit where it is due; Sobel was a great training officer, but a less-than-capable combat leader. As you can tell, Guarnere has a problem with everyone who's not a fellow Italian Catholic. Liebgott had Jewish relatives, but was in fact also Catholic (just Austrian Catholic). The name "Band of Brothers" is a reference to the St. Crispin's Day Speech from Shakespeare's Henry V. "But we in shall be remembered, we few, we happy few, we band of brothers, for he today who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother."
So i had the honor of being in E/506th Reenacted back in the 1993-early 2000's so i got to grow up around these Troopers as they would attend events with us. i was in the barracks at an event when XXX read the letter from Tom Hanks asking for his blessing to make this series, had many drunken nights with these scallywags , so many crazy stories that never made the books or series.
Yes! I was on the other side of the encampment at FIG and actually got to have a cafe chat with one of their officers. (name omitted to not be a spoiler)
My great uncle died fighting the Nazi's so I watch this at least once a year. This and "Saving Private Ryan" are the two best about WWII. "The Pacific" is really good also, but I prefer these. Remember "Band of Brothers" is based on real people so for the most part what you are watching is true.
Thank you for watching this with us. There are moments when you will cry, but it is very important to watch series like this so that we never enter into a war lightly. At the same time, we can never let a madman gain power and control. The colors are muted so that when there is blood, you experience the horrors of war along with these brave men without the shock of unnecessary gore. It is hard, but you will find out why they are called the greatest generation.
Watch the intro every tine. One of the best ever done for TV.. You'll be saying "Oh that's where that scene came from!" when you finally see it later in the series.
You are in for a wild ride! Greatest miniseries ever IMO. One of 3 World War II miniseries co-produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg (THE PACIFIC and MASTERS OF THE AIR being the other 2, both of which I also recommend). I also suggest FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON (co-produced by Ron Howard and Tom Hanks) which focuses on the Space Race of the 1960s.
Does anyone else find it ironic that Sobel has a soldier kicked out for taking a can of peaches from the mess facility, but later he's seen eating an apple?
Band of Brothers is an amazing true story. The men interviewed at the start of each episode are some of the real people that you see in the show. Their names are revealed at the end of the last episode as to not spoil anything.
You can't give these boys a break during training. They are not on vacation they are preparing them for war. They are not doing them any favors by going soft on them.
You're completely right, but Sobel is the perfect example of an officer unfit for his position of power. Guy did an amazing job making them the soldiers they became, but his unjustified "tyrannical vindictiveness" is not needed and sets a bad example for other NCOs and other minor COs.
@GreyMagee74 oh absolutely he was a 14 year old on a power trip and he reminds me of my dad. Sobel shouldn't of been in charge for the simple fact he enjoyed watching people suffer.
Sobel was bad in the field but everything he did during training was good. They were training for war, it's not suppose to be "fair" or easy. They're not always gonna have access to water when being out there. The enemy wasn't gonna wait for them to finish eating to attack. You're in for a journey. This is one of my all time favorite shows.
If you're going all the way with this... be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters and true stories. This episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead. When their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup" and Sobel. I love the power move Winters makes by literally grabbing the pen out of Sobel's hand while he was abusing his power...it's brilliant. This isn't a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠
8:30 "They just had food. Give them a break." Sometime in the future, these men will go to war. During the war, they will sometimes eat. Their enemies (Germans) will not give them a break; it the enemy attacks while they have full bellies, they will need to fight and run and do battle. They learned a valuable lesson this day.
Sorta the same thing with being ordered not to drink from their canteens during that ruck. You won't know when your next available water will be, rationing will be required at times. It's better to figure out how to deal with that in training then when it's no longer an option...

People living in the UK not only have had neighbors and family members who have actual memories of the cost of that war, but also grew up in many cities/towns which had sustained damage. When I first visited London nearly 20 years ago, there were still buildings in rubble from the bombings of 1940/41. Whole neighborhoods like Lambeth were flattened, and there was a bombed-out chapel one could see.
Germans occupied the entirety of France at this time, over 60,000 troops of German Army and SS units were deployed in the Normandy coast. The Americans, British, and Canadians as well as Polish volunteer soldiers had hundreds of thousands men hit 5 beaches that morning: Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Gold, Sword and Juno beaches. Americans suffered the worst casualties on Omaha, which is shown in Saving private ryan (2,500 Americans KIA in under 12 hours.) The American Airborne, 101st as well as 82nd All American Divisions were dropped behind both Omaha and Utah beaches. Their job was to destroy German artillery, trucks, buildings and command posts, as well as bunkers defending the beaches. Additionally, British and Canadian as well as Polish divisions were dropped further north to do the same.

Sobel's training was effective, and the majority of Easy Co. survivors credited him with making them tough enough to survive the war. But he was also mean spirited and petty, and his jealousy over the men's respect for Winters ultimately led to his reassignment. But he did make the jump into Normandy with the support groups, and organized a squad to destroy a German machine gun position. Not a spoiler since it isn't shown in the series.
No, the Sobel jump is not shown, nor is the organization of a squad to "destroy a German machine gun position". Not sure where you got that from. Is inaccurate information an actual spoiler?

Damian Lewis "Billions/Homeland", Ross ofc, Donnie Wahlberg from Blue Bloods, Michael Fassbender "the guy who drank from his cantine during the night hike" and Simon Pegg "Sobbels #2" and Capt Dale Dye who send Sobbel to parachute school, and many more in future episodes
You will get vested in these characters especially knowing they’re based on the actual men of Easy Company and their account of everything they experienced individually and together. Just remember that these men are considered our greatest generation for a reason and very few U.S. WW2 veterans are still alive.
When watching this series, remember this is real life. There is no plot armour or foreshadowing. There are 5300 volunteers for the Airborne, they only need 1800. It is Sobel's job to eliminate 2/3 of these men. Because these men are volunteers, they can quit at anytime in training and go back to the regular army. The men interviewed at the beginning are Easy company men featured in the series.

Just a suggestion, it's a good idea to give this series a rewatch once you've finished it. You'll pick up things you missed the first time around, especially due to the sheer number of characters.
Respectfully, given that you seem to be prone to emotional responses to stressful situations, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you purchase a LARGE amount of tissues while watching this series. You are in for a rollercoaster of emotions. Enjoy, it is so worth the time you're investing in watching it.
The music from that intro will imbed itself in your head. By the time you are finished it will haunt you. Especially since this is a true story (there are a few inaccuracies) Also here's another "heads up" for you. There is a very LARGE contingent of "BoB" watchers on UA-cam. "If you watch it- they will come". You will come to recognize us in the comments. It's why I'm here. I've seen this 100's of times. And I DON't watch things more than once unless it's really special. This is not just on another level but on different plane of existence.
Actually, this is a bit toned down because combat is a constant overload. You try to be vigilant but you can't see everything and then you get hit. They didn't show all of the blood and gore that happens around you.
On the intro skipping part ... don't! :) It's been a while since I watched this *not* as a reaction watch but I am fairly sure the imagery evolves as the history unfolds for Easy Company.
Episode 1 and I’m already in tears. My Grandfather fought along side these men in Belgium. He was US 17th paratroopers and jumped into Germany alongside of your British 6th airborne guys.
One important point to note is that all the men of Easy Company, no matter their dislike of Sobel, agreed to a man that he truly did train them well, preparing them in many ways for what they would endure in the war.
@Liala The show itself has 10 episodes, but there’s a sort of unofficial 11th that is the documentary interviewing the men of Easy company that all the snippets you see at the beginning of each episode are taken from. They don’t tell you who’s who until episode #10, but a couple of the actors really resemble the men they’re playing.
OMG I'm so happy you're reacting to this! It's one of the best shows ever made, you won't regret it, even if it will wreck you emotionally at some points. So first off, this show is mostly based on the recollections and books that some of the veterans wrote after the war, so while it is generally quite accurate, there are some slight errors every now and then, some bias regarding their opinions of one man or another, and some artistic license. In the end, its not a documentary, so it's not expected to be 100% accurate. David Schwimmer was the biggest name on the cast when the show as filmed, as it happened during the height of Friends' popularity, but a lot of new or lesser known actors would emerge from this series. Michael Fassbender (his first role ever), Simon Pegg, Michael Cudlitz among others, and more to come later on. The men all hated Sobel because he was unnecessarily harsh with them, always finding excuses to punish them, but they all credited their survival to him and his rigorous physical training, even if he was a very poor leader in the field. He got the troops in such impeccable physical condition that they were able to skip the physical training portion of Jump School. The main cast went through a week-long boot camp prior to filming, to really get them into the roles they were portraying, and that went a long way to give this show a lot of its authentic feel. Some of the cast appear older, but in reality, most of these guys were extremely young, 18 & 19yo boys going to war, some of them never even having seen a plane until now, and now they had to jump off of one. Even the officers, men like Winters (26), Nixon (25), Meehan & Compton (both 22) were not that old at all on D-Day. Ranney and Harris were the two punished by Col Sink because he rightfully figured out they were the ones behind the mutiny, being at the time the seniors among the Sergeants. Ranney was actually transferred to Item Company but managed to rejoin Easy about a week before D-Day. Harris, meanwhile (never shown again in the show, so not a spoiler), became a Pathfinder and was killed in the battle of Carentan. Thankfully, Sink also understood that if so many men bucked at serving under Sobel, there might be some kernel of truth in there somewhere. And yes, they really would have shot them, but the loss of so many NCOs would have dealt a terrible blow to the strength of the company. Also, if you're not familiar with how the army is broken down into smaller units, it kinda goes like this, very roughly: Fire Team/Squad: 6-12 soldiers Platoon: 3 to 4 squads, up to 50 soldiers Company: 3 to 4 platoons, up to 200 soldiers Battalion: 3 to 5 companies, up to 1000 soldiers Brigade/Regiment: 3 to 5 battalions, up to 5000 soldiers Division: 3 brigades, 15k soldiers Company names back then used the older phonetic alphabet. Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog, Easy, Fox, George, How, Item. Able, Baker, Charlie were 1st Battalion, Dog, Easy Fox made up 2nd Battalion, and George, How, Item were 3rd Battalion, and all those 9 companies were the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. $10,000 in 1944 is worth about $177,000 today. Eisenhower had a prepared speech/letter in the event that D-Day would have been a failure: "Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone." Thankfully, it was not needed..
It's a story that needed to be told, everyone should have to see it, remember it and make the right choices in the future so we don't have the expect people to have to do these things again. So many had to sacrifice the most and some sacrificed everything to stop these lunatics from taking over the world. Loved your reaction and don't worry if it makes you emotional because it should. Pretty hard to keep a dry eye when a story like this is being told.
this was pretty tame compared to what the Marines go through in training. watch The Pacific, next. it's all about the Marine First Division's Island hopping campaign through the Pacific against the Japanese.
The Pacific (like Masters Of The Air) wasn't all that good, or highly praised, unlike this show which some consider the greatest TV show ever.....if she's looking for views, i recommend she pick something else that's more popular.

Currahee means Stand Alone in Cherokee (CuraHEE) There is mountain in Georgia called Mount Currahee near town of Toccoa. Camp Toccoa was training camp for the 1st Paratroopers.
Loved your thoughts and feelings during this inaugural episode, and I'm genuinely looking forward to enjoying this series once again with you (by proxy!) I'm going to make a potentially unpopular recommendation: try to avoid the comments as best you can as you progress through this series. There will invariably be a lot of people posting comments like "Make sure you bring tissues for Episode _ , it's the most heartbreaking!" Or, "Oh, if you love this character, just wait until Episode _ , when you see what happens to them!" I know that these people mostly mean well, and are just trying to engage positively, but comments like that are still spoilers. I really think it's best to go into each episode without having a load of expectations on how you'll feel, or what to expect, and honestly believe that you'll get a lot more out of it emotionally if you experience it organically. Anyway, keep up the great work, and as a newcomer to your channel, I'll definitely be going through your back catalogue while I wait for the next episodes of this incredibly well made series!
Up until around the 80's needing water was a sign of weakness. Taking a water break during sports practices was even frowned upon. Kids dying started changing that thinking.
The pouring out of water in the canteens is meant to prepare the guys for conditions in warfare or battle or staying out of the awareness of the enemy 6:25 . They might need to get accustomed to -not- having access to water (or food or warmth or other aspects of daily life that we take for granted) but still have to persevere and fulfill their duties. They need to be ready to go without optimum health conditions, or to sacrifice their comfort or needs for basic survival.
So pleased to see this reaction come up! This is easily the best series ever set to film, covering those men of that Greatest Generation. I have some suggestions & a few requests; if you comment at length, please pause as you could easily miss critical information. Additionally, try to extend the veterans interviews at the intro, we'd like to hear your take on that. Lastly, these are the actual men who served during the war, not characters. Their names will fly at random times & although a daunting task, it would help to get to know each of them. Looking forward to seeing the next episode!
If the training was hard, the battles were a nightmare. Defeating evil like Nazi Germany cost the lives of good men. That is the cost of freedom. We should never forget and we should honor their sacrifice by always being vigilant. Ronald Reagan once said something to the effect that liberty is but one generation away from being lost.

Those people that riot when they don't get their way, like Antifa (American's Brown shirts), BLM, and now all the anti-Jewish protestors and violence against Jews. Those group punishments are common in the military. It's supposed to instill team mentality, the unit against the trainer. That chow scene was intentional also. Eating that much pasta and then going for a long run, you are guaranteed to vomit.
You will grow to love this series. This is an amazing true story that, at times, will make you jump for joy, and sometimes break your heart. In the end, you will be so glad that you watched it, and you'll have a lasting respect for those men. I guarantee it. CURRAHEE

The actors all play the elderly veterans interviewed at the beginning of each show (as this is all a TRUE story), but they don't reveal the veteran's names until the last episode (but it's fun to guess which actors play which veterans).
Unfortunately we have lost the last member of this group of heroes. I am so happy you are watching this. I have this on DVD. You got to watch the documentary after you finished watching the show

Sobel was bad in the field but everything he did during training was good. They were training for war, it's not suppose to be "fair" or easy. They're not always gonna have access to water when being out there. The enemy wasn't gonna wait for them to finish eating to attack.
You're in for a journey. This is one of my all time favorite shows.

If you're going all the way with this... be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters and true stories. This episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead. When their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup" and Sobel. I love the power move Winters makes by literally grabbing the pen out of Sobel's hand while he was abusing his power...it's brilliant. This isn't a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠

Their enemies (Germans) will not give them a break; it the enemy attacks while they have full bellies, they will need to fight and run and do battle.
They learned a valuable lesson this day.
That was one of the benefits of being in an Axis or Soviet military - the odds of being attacked during or after a meal was often very, very low.
Sorta the same thing with being ordered not to drink from their canteens during that ruck. You won't know when your next available water will be, rationing will be required at times. It's better to figure out how to deal with that in training then when it's no longer an option...
A lot of the younger generations just don't know. This was real for millions of Americans and for 10's of millions of Europeans.

People living in the UK not only have had neighbors and family members who have actual memories of the cost of that war, but also grew up in many cities/towns which had sustained damage. When I first visited London nearly 20 years ago, there were still buildings in rubble from the bombings of 1940/41. Whole neighborhoods like Lambeth were flattened, and there was a bombed-out chapel one could see.
Germans occupied the entirety of France at this time, over 60,000 troops of German Army and SS units were deployed in the Normandy coast.
The Americans, British, and Canadians as well as Polish volunteer soldiers had hundreds of thousands men hit 5 beaches that morning: Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Gold, Sword and Juno beaches.
Americans suffered the worst casualties on Omaha, which is shown in Saving private ryan (2,500 Americans KIA in under 12 hours.)
The American Airborne, 101st as well as 82nd All American Divisions were dropped behind both Omaha and Utah beaches. Their job was to destroy German artillery, trucks, buildings and command posts, as well as bunkers defending the beaches. Additionally, British and Canadian as well as Polish divisions were dropped further north to do the same.

Sobel's training was effective, and the majority of Easy Co. survivors credited him with making them tough enough to survive the war. But he was also mean spirited and petty, and his jealousy over the men's respect for Winters ultimately led to his reassignment. But he did make the jump into Normandy with the support groups, and organized a squad to destroy a German machine gun position. Not a spoiler since it isn't shown in the series.
No, the Sobel jump is not shown, nor is the organization of a squad to "destroy a German machine gun position". Not sure where you got that from. Is inaccurate information an actual spoiler?

Damian Lewis "Billions/Homeland", Ross ofc, Donnie Wahlberg from Blue Bloods, Michael Fassbender "the guy who drank from his cantine during the night hike" and Simon Pegg "Sobbels #2" and Capt Dale Dye who send Sobbel to parachute school, and many more in future episodes
You will get vested in these characters especially knowing they’re based on the actual men of Easy Company and their account of everything they experienced individually and together. Just remember that these men are considered our greatest generation for a reason and very few U.S. WW2 veterans are still alive.
When watching this series, remember this is real life. There is no plot armour or foreshadowing.
There are 5300 volunteers for the Airborne, they only need 1800. It is Sobel's job to eliminate 2/3 of these men. Because these men are volunteers, they can quit at anytime in training and go back to the regular army.
The men interviewed at the beginning are Easy company men featured in the series.

About half of the actors in Easy Company are British or Irish. Damn good dialect coaching.
Notably, Simon Pegg and Liverpool's Stephen Graham are NCOs in the first episode.
Just a suggestion, it's a good idea to give this series a rewatch once you've finished it. You'll pick up things you missed the first time around, especially due to the sheer number of characters.
Respectfully, given that you seem to be prone to emotional responses to stressful situations, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you purchase a LARGE amount of tissues while watching this series. You are in for a rollercoaster of emotions. Enjoy, it is so worth the time you're investing in watching it.
The music from that intro will imbed itself in your head. By the time you are finished it will haunt you. Especially since this is a true story (there are a few inaccuracies) Also here's another "heads up" for you. There is a very LARGE contingent of "BoB" watchers on UA-cam. "If you watch it- they will come". You will come to recognize us in the comments. It's why I'm here. I've seen this 100's of times. And I DON't watch things more than once unless it's really special. This is not just on another level but on different plane of existence.
There are lots of stars and future stars in this series. Donnie Wahlberg and the army guy from the walking dead to name two.
Actually, this is a bit toned down because combat is a constant overload. You try to be vigilant but you can't see everything and then you get hit. They didn't show all of the blood and gore that happens around you.
On the intro skipping part ... don't! :) It's been a while since I watched this *not* as a reaction watch but I am fairly sure the imagery evolves as the history unfolds for Easy Company.
Episode 1 and I’m already in tears. My Grandfather fought along side these men in Belgium. He was US 17th paratroopers and jumped into Germany alongside of your British 6th airborne guys.

One important point to note is that all the men of Easy Company, no matter their dislike of Sobel, agreed to a man that he truly did train them well, preparing them in many ways for what they would endure in the war.

@Liala The show itself has 10 episodes, but there’s a sort of unofficial 11th that is the documentary interviewing the men of Easy company that all the snippets you see at the beginning of each episode are taken from. They don’t tell you who’s who until episode #10, but a couple of the actors really resemble the men they’re playing.
A superbly produced series, made even better by remarkable interviews with real world survivors of Easy Company.

OMG I'm so happy you're reacting to this! It's one of the best shows ever made, you won't regret it, even if it will wreck you emotionally at some points.
So first off, this show is mostly based on the recollections and books that some of the veterans wrote after the war, so while it is generally quite accurate, there are some slight errors every now and then, some bias regarding their opinions of one man or another, and some artistic license. In the end, its not a documentary, so it's not expected to be 100% accurate.
David Schwimmer was the biggest name on the cast when the show as filmed, as it happened during the height of Friends' popularity, but a lot of new or lesser known actors would emerge from this series. Michael Fassbender (his first role ever), Simon Pegg, Michael Cudlitz among others, and more to come later on.
The men all hated Sobel because he was unnecessarily harsh with them, always finding excuses to punish them, but they all credited their survival to him and his rigorous physical training, even if he was a very poor leader in the field. He got the troops in such impeccable physical condition that they were able to skip the physical training portion of Jump School.
The main cast went through a week-long boot camp prior to filming, to really get them into the roles they were portraying, and that went a long way to give this show a lot of its authentic feel.
Some of the cast appear older, but in reality, most of these guys were extremely young, 18 & 19yo boys going to war, some of them never even having seen a plane until now, and now they had to jump off of one. Even the officers, men like Winters (26), Nixon (25), Meehan & Compton (both 22) were not that old at all on D-Day.
Ranney and Harris were the two punished by Col Sink because he rightfully figured out they were the ones behind the mutiny, being at the time the seniors among the Sergeants. Ranney was actually transferred to Item Company but managed to rejoin Easy about a week before D-Day. Harris, meanwhile (never shown again in the show, so not a spoiler), became a Pathfinder and was killed in the battle of Carentan.
Thankfully, Sink also understood that if so many men bucked at serving under Sobel, there might be some kernel of truth in there somewhere. And yes, they really would have shot them, but the loss of so many NCOs would have dealt a terrible blow to the strength of the company.
Also, if you're not familiar with how the army is broken down into smaller units, it kinda goes like this, very roughly:
Fire Team/Squad: 6-12 soldiers
Platoon: 3 to 4 squads, up to 50 soldiers
Company: 3 to 4 platoons, up to 200 soldiers
Battalion: 3 to 5 companies, up to 1000 soldiers
Brigade/Regiment: 3 to 5 battalions, up to 5000 soldiers
Division: 3 brigades, 15k soldiers
Company names back then used the older phonetic alphabet.
Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog, Easy, Fox, George, How, Item.
Able, Baker, Charlie were 1st Battalion, Dog, Easy Fox made up 2nd Battalion, and George, How, Item were 3rd Battalion, and all those 9 companies were the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division.
$10,000 in 1944 is worth about $177,000 today.
Eisenhower had a prepared speech/letter in the event that D-Day would have been a failure:
"Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone."

It's a story that needed to be told, everyone should have to see it, remember it and make the right choices in the future so we don't have the expect people to have to do these things again. So many had to sacrifice the most and some sacrificed everything to stop these lunatics from taking over the world. Loved your reaction and don't worry if it makes you emotional because it should. Pretty hard to keep a dry eye when a story like this is being told.

this was pretty tame compared to what the Marines go through in training. watch The Pacific, next. it's all about the Marine First Division's Island hopping campaign through the Pacific against the Japanese.
The Pacific (like Masters Of The Air) wasn't all that good, or highly praised, unlike this show which some consider the greatest TV show ever.....if she's looking for views, i recommend she pick something else that's more popular.

Answering your concerns about crying, you will! Sadly, majority of real vets of 506th Regiment, E Company or Easy Company aka "Screaming Eagles" of 101st Airborne passed with last member of E Company was Edward Shames died in 2021 at the age of 99.
Currahee means Stand Alone in Cherokee (CuraHEE) There is mountain in Georgia called Mount Currahee near town of Toccoa. Camp Toccoa was training camp for the 1st Paratroopers.

I'm going to make a potentially unpopular recommendation: try to avoid the comments as best you can as you progress through this series. There will invariably be a lot of people posting comments like "Make sure you bring tissues for Episode _ , it's the most heartbreaking!" Or, "Oh, if you love this character, just wait until Episode _ , when you see what happens to them!"
I know that these people mostly mean well, and are just trying to engage positively, but comments like that are still spoilers. I really think it's best to go into each episode without having a load of expectations on how you'll feel, or what to expect, and honestly believe that you'll get a lot more out of it emotionally if you experience it organically.
Anyway, keep up the great work, and as a newcomer to your channel, I'll definitely be going through your back catalogue while I wait for the next episodes of this incredibly well made series!
Up until around the 80's needing water was a sign of weakness. Taking a water break during sports practices was even frowned upon. Kids dying started changing that thinking.
The pouring out of water in the canteens is meant to prepare the guys for conditions in warfare or battle or staying out of the awareness of the enemy 6:25 . They might need to get accustomed to -not- having access to water (or food or warmth or other aspects of daily life that we take for granted) but still have to persevere and fulfill their duties. They need to be ready to go without optimum health conditions, or to sacrifice their comfort or needs for basic survival.
You've jumped on a journey which you will be very grateful for in the end ;)
So pleased to see this reaction come up! This is easily the best series ever set to film, covering those men of that Greatest Generation. I have some suggestions & a few requests; if you comment at length, please pause as you could easily miss critical information. Additionally, try to extend the veterans interviews at the intro, we'd like to hear your take on that. Lastly, these are the actual men who served during the war, not characters. Their names will fly at random times & although a daunting task, it would help to get to know each of them. Looking forward to seeing the next episode!

Those people that riot when they don't get their way, like Antifa (American's Brown shirts), BLM, and now all the anti-Jewish protestors and violence against Jews. Those group punishments are common in the military. It's supposed to instill team mentality, the unit against the trainer. That chow scene was intentional also. Eating that much pasta and then going for a long run, you are guaranteed to vomit.

The actors all play the elderly veterans interviewed at the beginning of each show (as this is all a TRUE story), but they don't reveal the veteran's names until the last episode (but it's fun to guess which actors play which veterans).
