I’m the type of Prince fan that’s gonna offer a different viewpoint you know because prince encouraged us to be individual thinkers, but don’t get offended… The very first part of this is I think a later career version probably in the ‘10s, then the track as you can hear moves into the actual 80s mid 80s version. If you’re keen in listening you’ll hear how much more magical the 80s version is not only in production but recording atmosphere the way he sang it the way it’s recorded performed produced even though it’s somewhat of a demo like quality to it like it’s a work in progress. It still sounds fantastic. Skip again back to or forward to the last more modern version you could say and you could hear how sonically it lost any and all atmosphere it felt like it was all software ProTools lifeless in a vacuum that’s not even like a great vacuum like kiss was for example it’s just last it’s something and this kind of recording output or method kind of play princess recordings from about I would say the early to mid 00s. I’m just pointing it out. This is a very cool recording of the 1986 version. I think I may have it and lossless I don’t know anyways, what are magical time not only in Princesa approach to recording and songwriting producing, but the actual studios that were used then. Wow.

The song was peak form with Taja. The sparse nature of the music especially during the verses is spot on and Taja’s voice is perfectly suited for the girly girl vibe of the song. Add that ferocious guitar solo in and it’s 🔥
I've always found these "girly girl" type of Prince songs written specifically for a female to sing to be rather weak. They all sound similar. The songs he gave to female artists that were just "Prince" songs were significantly better.
