    Can’t believe I’m on UA-cam to learn something my teacher couldn’t teach me
    Edit: I watched other videos from other math help such as khan academy, Brian mclogan, and this one channel that’s like khan academy but this one was us the only one that helped me

    my final exam for trig is tmr and 1/3 of the questions are just verifying identities, and i had no clue what i had to do due to the fact that the trig course i’m taking is all self taught, but this video explained it so well! i’m x100 more confident now thanks to this video! :D ty dude keep up the great work

    it seems like there is a pattern with students who have pre-calculus teachers who cant seem to teach this theory in class. Thank you, this video is a big help

    Thanks for the explanation, although I'm usually a happy and bright student, once I started learning trigonometric identities I became frusterated at myself and unhappy with my inability to find out how to verify them.
    However because of your great strategy of trying to get it all to cosine / sine I'm sure I'll do great on tomorrows test, thank you.

    Do I have to memorize my identities?

    • @MySecretMathTutor
      @MySecretMathTutor  3 роки тому +1

      There are so many trig identities it can be tough to memorize them all. After using a few key ones, I find most people end up memorizing the Pythagorean identities, and the double angle identities.

    literally makes no sense no matter who talks about it or how they do. never goes over the conceptual basis of the proofs and just assumes that you're going to do rote memorization for everything.

    Yeah I still don't know what you're doing. I don't see what this has to do with medical school....All I should need is basic multiplication, division, ratios, percentages, and proportions! Btw I'm just ranting because I am required to take a class that has nothing to do with my major and I can't understand it no matter how hard I'm trying!

    • @MySecretMathTutor
      @MySecretMathTutor  5 років тому +1

      Hang in there. By seeking out other sources to learn, you are making progress. When you get that medical degree, you can leave the trigonometry identities behind. :^D

    • @MySecretMathTutor
      @MySecretMathTutor  4 роки тому +4

      That can make it feel like you are fighting with one arm behind your back, but there are some ways you can get sort of get away with this. Think of starting with what ever side is more complicated and work to simplify like in the video. When you actually have to write out the work, only work on the left side. If something was canceled out, you'll more than likely have to multiply by some unit fraction (think of sin(x) / sin(x) ).
      After doing this a few times you'll get a sense of how you can make the simple side more complicated by using these unit fractions.

    could someone help me out here? I don't understand how he got sec^2x from tan^2x+1 at around the 5:58 mark

    • @emilyv1178
      @emilyv1178 5 років тому

      Since tan^2x = sec^2x-1, it would be sec^2x-1+1 therefore the 1's cancel each other out. Hopefully this helped T_T

    • @MySecretMathTutor
      @MySecretMathTutor  4 роки тому

      Not quite sure where you are getting that zero, but I suggest taking this in steps....
      (1/cosx) - (cosx/1) Get a common denominator by multiplying the second fraction by (cosx/cosx).
      (1/cosx) - (cos^2 x / cosx) Now we can subtract the numerators, and keep the denominator the same
      (1 - cos^2 x) / (cosx) Use a Pythagorean identity on the top
      sin^2x / cosx Its starting to look more like the right hand side we are verifying. Split things out
      sinx * (sinx/ cosx) Use the identity for tangent
      sinx * tanx This is the right hand side so we are done. :^D
