I have moved entirely to resistance bands and body weight exercises. Much less stress on the joints and resistance bands still provide a nice pump, but without the pressure on the joints from weights. I think the less stress on the joints is a huge factor for those of us with injuries, or even people who might be unable to get to the gym, or don't have the space to invest in weights and machines. Plus, a set of resistance bands is relatively cheap compared to weights and machines. You will also notice that different brands of resistance bands have different levels of elasticity to them. I have rogue bands and clench bands and they are different in their feel and elasticity, which provides for an interesting comparison.

Bands to me are absolutely fantastic in terms of feel but it is true that you have to be careful what you're attaching them to because I found out the hard way to NOT attach them to trees, because the rough bark will sheer them.

Guys....easy solution. I simply purchased two quality elastic velcro waist slimmers....(the same old fashioned black waist bands that you wrap around your gut to help lose inches..lol) simply get a good pair that are wide and XL. Wrap it around the tree trunk and velcro it. Use that as your base layer to keep your bands from touching the bark. You may need both waist bands if your tree has a huge diameter like mine does. I use a mighty Oak....due to the long length of my bands. I love tree presses...it allows you to focus on the press rather than fighting the pulling force against you as you press.
The waist bands are sweet because they travel well too and are light.

Doing chest pulls I found it helps keep my shoulder lose by turning the wrists up as you push outwards. I had shoulder problem and doing this with a band and doing them around the back and pull-out wards. with arms going back and down wrists up.

Try the bent over row with bands and foot plate, but without a bar. Grab the loops with gloves or grippads. The ROM and the squeeze at the end are epic. Feels incredible.

This is the routine I employ. Bands and Dumbbells. I also use the tube style bands ( GoFit Brand only ) started this after shoulder surgery. It has done wonders for my grip and forearm strength. I use Rogue, Serious Steel and Undersun. Zero snapped bands over 3 years. I added 5.5 and 7 inch carabiners to allow for safe operation and ease of attaching and detaching. I believe the F2 bar will be a future addition. Thanks Mike for the video

Also, I prefer standing anchored banded chest flys (2 bands mounted wide apart behind me) to dumbbell. I find the bottom part of the movement with db limits how much weight I can utilize and have sometimes felt strain in the armpit trying to get them moving while on a bench.

    For the algo.
Resistance bands or adjustable dumbbells for traps?
Love the concept of utilizing both for my adhd workouts when I’m not in the mood for following a hypertrophy split. Sometimes I just want to get ‘movement’ in and the resistance bands are great in minimalism and space without having to pull out the adjustable dumbbells and 5 foot barbell. I feel the ‘burn’ quicker and can superset with body weight stuff like pushups or sit ups.
    Nice work and video 💪🏼

im a big fan of bands for biceps, shoulder presses and high volume squats.
for everything else i generally prefer barbells/dumbbells.
for chest pressing motions ive never felt that they work very well, and for any horizontal pulling movements they seem especially bad because the resistance curve of the bands seem to be the total opposite of the strength curve for the muscle

I think the standing chest press is not as good as when you just simply put the band under a bench and press it up with the bar as with weights. You have more Pre Stretch and it's pretty effective to progressively overload with.

I am curious whether you have an opinion about kettlebells. For me, the kettlebell "complexes" are a total gamechanger -- constant rhythmic pattern of clean & press, frontloaded KB squats, swings, etc. over multiple rounds for say 30 minutes straight. You do not exactly build mass in a traditional sense, but you shred the core/obliques and develop a fighter's physique (lean and cut with a V-taper). In lieu of all the elaborate gizmos and gadgets, I am also attracted by a simple metal cannonball with a handle. 💪 I think a kettlebell is indispensable to a home gym so i am surprised i have never seen one in your vids. Cheers mate. 🍻

I used to be big into them and use them more than I do, but for the sake of time/goals they been taking a back seat. I have featured them a bit on some older videos. I think they're great for those reasons you listed, but maybe are less ideal in targeting specific areas for muscle hypertrophy. I'm actually this summer to do more with them, but also find that less people are interested in them as a whole on the channel.

I might try x3 since it’s on sale but more interested in harambe from the reviews it’s better. Also an interview suggestion a gentleman named JessePawlack. He does convict conditioning. He believes in partial reps he has great energy he would be an interesting interview

So I only worked out with bands for 1,5 years and went from skinny 71 kg to 90 kg at 187cm at around 20 percent bodyfat. I would say the most change on my body was after 1 year and 1 year and 3 months. Now it's drastically slowing down. Can't get over 90 kg weight even with 4500 - 5000 kcal. It just adds up to more fat than muscle when trying so I'm cutting down a bit with 3500 kcal. For reference, my bent over row with weight is current 70 kg and my bench press is 60 kgwith around 10 reps on each movement. I don't know if I would make a drastically change in my phisuiqe when training with weights. But I build my strength on these movements only with bands. I think it builds muscle really well, but it's a different strength you are building with bands than as you would with weights. Not necessarily because of the lengthened muscle which you might target more with weights (you do that as well with bands with partials, Dropsets and so on, but still feels different). It's just a different stimulus. I don't think that strong people training only with weights are strong with bands and vica versa. The same with bodyweight movement. You only get good with a tool that you are using with. That doesn't mean that one is better than the other. Using all forms of training is beneficial. In September my transformation with only bands is done and then I'm visiting the gym to get a different stimulus and see how far I can progress there. I will probably go up in my lifts pretty fast and then get stuck pretty fast after 3 months or so, because I'm already working out 2 years then.

@@hybridresistance I hope it helps people! I was pushing it really hard and serious with bands and progressed, meaning adding more bands or heavier ones. It gives you the same great feeling, that you are able to push more "bands" as with weights. But when compared, the workouts with bands are always way harder than as with weights. With weights you don't have constant tension on your muscles which is less stress for your nervous system. But you are quicker done, because you need to do less partials with the weights because it stresses out the lenghtend muscle faster than bands does.

Dumbbell pullovers are an insanely good lat exercise and you cant really do them with bands. At least not in a way that gets you the stretch at the bottom.

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  Місяць тому

I'm probably misundertanding what you mean, but I personally think that's where the bands shine. You can get a full start of shoulder flexion all the way to shoulder extension through a greater range of motion under constant load compared to DBs which only give you resistance for about half the movement. Still a solid exercise no doubt you, you just only get about half shoulder range of motion. There's a strength curve difference the bands though, so if I could throw a cable / functional trainer in, I'd say that would be ideal. Also a TG is excellent in this exercise as well.
