I was trying to make sense of codes, banks, Upstream and downstream for a 2007 Highlander. It turns out this video was more useful than I expected. he explained quite well how to make sense of the error codes received. Thank you for very informative video.
Thank you for this video. Not a mechanic......but I was ready to tackle an O2 sensor on my Highlander until I watched your video and realized what the mother a B1S1 entails. You are doing us all quite the service.
In order to get to the bank 1 sensor 1, it is easier to remove the air box and the intake plenum. The plenum is held in by Torx or Allen bolts that are a mother unless you get the socket for it. There are also 2 bolts on the back side that are 10 or 12 mm and to get them off you need ratcheting wrenches. While you have all of that off, you might just as well replace plugs and coil packs at the same time. I am a heavy set guy with short arms and I was able to do it so it wasn't rocket science...
Such is the nightmare of ALL WHEEL DRIVE Highlanders. That's why I like the FRONT WHEEL DRIVE ONES. excellent video by the way. AWD Highlanders are heavy, bad gas mileage and if you have to replace the drive shaft~it's $800 just for the part.Buy a FWD version which is 300 LBS lighter, better MPG and a lot more room underneath to work on. But with all that said~ Still the best damn vehicle built in japan.
Great job! Perfect videography, you kept us oriented to where you were at all times. Love the simple and quick explanations, and hilarious sense of brutal honesty. Reminds me of me when climbing under a car.😂
Bro...ur totally ME when fixing cars...I dont know squat about cars, but I'm willing to try if I have the right tools...HILARIOUS and informative so Kudos to you man!
You know what, man? Bank 1 might be referring to the back row of cylinders 1, 3 and 5 while bank 2 refers to the front row of cylinders 2, 4 and 6...not sure, just throwing it out there
Dude! So glad people who aren’t mechanics are still making videos like these. This was a lifesaver. Unfortunately my issue with with bank 1 sensor 1 so I’ve got my work cut out for me :(. You’re a legend!
Dude.... THANK YOU. This was awesome! And I loved your personality 😂 I should've already known with my luck that the one that my car needs replaced would be the absolute hardest to get to.. wish me luck! Haha
Most mechanics get to sensor one when they remove the entire catalytic converter or I guess you could hire Gumby and see if he could get to it. Great video remind me of myself when I’m looking for something.❤
Great video! I’m trying to see if I can replace my o2 sensors- my mechanic said it wasn’t worth it because other parts in my car are so rusted. But I can’t afford a new car now, so…here we go. Also, even if you knew the official names, who cares? You had great footage and covered the important stuff. Well done!
I been researching for the last few days, I kinda figured out b4 this video but you did a great job, I used this video to increase my knowledge. Like you I'm not a mechanic but I forced myself to learn how to work on my cars and some friends that trusted me... lol.
Dude I'm not even sure you are right, but your video is awesome. At least your honest, getting ready to change the sensors on an older Toyota solara, but your level of honesty is awesome and entertaining, probably bc in like you with cars, idk wtf that is, but if I can take it out I can put it in
Love it. I don't know all the terminology ider but I understood you just fine. Straight forward vid right to the point. Hell I don't think Scotty Gilmer will do a better vid than this one. Thx
Good job dude! I'm like you on figuring all this stuff out. Not a mechanic but smart enough and confident enough to get my hands dirty trying to save some $$$. In order to get to that bank 1 sensor 1 you have to take off the top part of your engine! Basically you have to remove the windshield wiper tray, mass air flow intake system, ignition coil lines across the top of the engine, and the engine intake (if that's what it's called??? - big black thing on top back of the engine that go to your 1-3 cylinders.) Once this is done you can just about reach it!!! LOL If I had know that was all required I would have replaced the sensor when I had all that crap off to replace my knock sensors!! Anyhow, now I get to do all that crap again!! LOL Wishing you luck with your car repair adventures.
Hilarious bro, you did great. You knew the names of the important parts for your videos purpose, and where everything was. I can't find a video of anyone doing this, so it must be hard, I'm thinking take off the driver side wheel. But still doesn' look easy even with the wheel off.
I have been researching for awhile now and this video was perfect! Awesome vid and i love the description of things lmfao, you should start making videos often i feel like a lot of people can relate to how you describe everything else “this f@&($; thing here whatever the &!;&(! Its called 😂
I don't know if you realized how great this was when you were making it, but honestly... fire. Rent a set of o2 sensor socket adapters from a parts store. Should be able to get bank 1 sensor 1 off with that + extension(s).
This is awesome, thank you. I've got an 06 which looks to be identical. Changing that Bank 1 Sensor 1 O2 is about as easy as changing the spark plugs on Bank 1 - it's totally ridiculous...
F me. The only one that is failing emissions is that SOB B1S1 (P0031 error). I am checking to make sure it is connected and if it is not sure if I give to a pro or take apart all those parts to get to it. Leaning towards a pro. @@micamack
It’s all fixed now Put in a new catalytic converter on the front side of the engine surprisingly it only cost me $400 The engine is working perfect now a year later & now has 437,000+ miles on it & is working flawlessly She drives like a dream
I’m having a problem with mine now on a 2010 highlander hybrid I’ve changed the 2 o2 sensors for the codes I got & the mass airflow sensor but the codes won’t clear. Just spoke to a mechanic & he told me to make sure that the o2 sensors are for your region eg California has different regulations than most of the rest of the us so even if you’ve got the correct part # it may be wrong because the computer won’t recognize the sensor. Even though I matched the part to the cross reference for Toyota original to Denso from Napa they still are not working
This video is absolutely perfect. THANK YOU. If I’m seeing all 4 sensors on my ob2 reader, but a single sensor ‘is not supported’, is it safe to assume it needs to be replaced?
It is not that difficult we just change all four oxygen sensor today we started at 10 in the morning and we were done by 5:30 afternoon. But we have to do a lot of stuff broken bolt welding and stuff like that. My son help me he moved easier underneath the car. We dropped the muffler with the Y in it and the other muffler front of it the small straight piece. After that you can access the catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor quite easy.
that thing in the way you can't identify is your transfer case , talking to my son in law , he told me , just change the one on top, it's the one that actually adjust your fuel air mixture , the other 3 basically just send that information back to the computer ..or, take it to Toyota , LOL
I have had a crap of a time reaching sensor 1 on my 09 kluger I had to sever the wires to get a 22ml long reach socket onto it because the 02 socket I have is to long And why on earth would they manufacture a 3/8 considering the hard work it has to do anyway If you do that please make sure you have a correct replacement sensor genuine Toyota part or you will soon find out like I did it won’t bloody work
