I WAS WORKING AT A GAS STATION BETWEEN PITTSBURGH AN ERIE WHEN I WAS 14...BOBBY VINTON STOPPED ON HIS WAY TO ERIE FOR GAS!! I'M 71 NOW AN REMEMBER IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY!!
Ah, I am beyond excited to finally see this! Thank you so much! "My Heart Belongs to Only You" is one of my favorite songs of all time and I've wanted to see Bobby sing it live on the Sullivan show for 30 years. I've played his record countless times and sung the song myself in shows in front of audiences. Bobby's record charted at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 right at the start of the British Invasion, and would have probably charted higher otherwise, as Bobby's previous record, "There, I've Said It Again" went all the way to number 1. "My Heart" did chart at number 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Like many of Bobby's hits, the song had originally charted for others in the early 1950's. In this case, June Christy and Bette McLaurin both released versions in 1952. These were followed by other versions in the 1950's with Mary Swan's 1958 record being one of the stand-outs. Another fantastic version is the one by Jackie Wilson which was released and charted at 65 on the Hot 100 in 1961. Though all these versions have their charms, it wasn't until Bobby recorded the song that it became a major success, 12 years after it was written by Dorothy Daniels and Frank Daniels. Thank you again for this incredible post; one of those I've been wishing for so long!
"Blue Velvet", Mr Lonely", and too many others to mention make B.V. the ballad king of the early and mid 60s and did more to cause foged-up windows on high school love birds' cars than any other recording artist of that magical era which, unfortunately, passed too quickly and most likely will never be equalled or repeated in its uniquely American innocence and charm. 😊
This was incredible, wasn't it? I loved it! Bobby's performance was just as fantastic as I always thought it would be. I hope you are doing really well, by the way!
@TomElvisSmith It is incredible! I'm so thankful that I'm getting to see these older performances. I know it was your favorite, and I am glad that they finally posted it. Thank you for all the information! That's one thing that this channel lacks, a nice description to go with the video. We are fortunate to have you. I am doing well. Thank you so much for asking. I hope you and your grandfather are both doing well! Have a peaceful night! 🕊💖
@@that70sgirl90 Thank you so much! Yes, this is one of my favorite songs of all time! I'm so glad to hear you are doing well, my friend! It really is incredible to see all these great rare performances.
Huge time favorite Bobby Vinton. Can remember hearing him on the radio in 1964,when I was 4 years old. Early teen years, early 1970’s, purchased his greatest hits snd never stopped listening.

I remember as a teenager in the 70s, watching Bobby Vinton promoting records of songs of the 50s on TV commercials.
yea val i remember that , around 1972 or 73
NEVER heard him sing a song I did not like or want to sing along with. A music master.
I was fortunate to see Bobby Vinton perform live in 1979 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. What a talented artist!
I'm 19 now and I love bobby vinton's music, i wish I was born earlier in early 40s
I was merely an infant when this aired, but I heard his music in my house. I remember Blue Velvet, Roses are Red, and Mr. Lonely. Sweet performance!😊
