Hell, yes. So many 90s weekends trying to capture our own heroin-free version of that song... For a lot of us, this band was the alternative to Nirvana, the alternative to Grunge and the continuation of the 'alternative rock' that didn't come out of Seatle. It was also just a damned jam that didn't make those of us with hippie-allergies hate ourselves (looking back now, that was clearly self deception anyway). I think part 2 is about justifying what he's been doing; the drugs and sex, pushing back against the society around him, trying to find some replacement for the imagined, older and more 'autenthically human' life-style that's no longer accessible to him. Building his own tribe, and finding wings for its members.
Quite sad that you're experience with Jane has been radio. Doh. Definitely the songs I skipped the most from them. Neither "Stop" nor "Been Caught Stealing" are songs I like - tolerate, but in the once is enough category. I think why the band worked so well is they were a blend of goth (vocalist and bassist), and hard rock (guitar, and drums) artists that came together. Something about artists with those backgrounds, and this blending of individuals was quite special. Nothing's Shocking is my favorite album of theirs. I saw them a number of times back in the early years, and almost ditched a show waiting in line because I was so hung over. The money didn't matter as it was their Anti-Ticket Master tour where tickets were limited to $7. The boys were all in their white-boy dreadlock days, and had died their locks with Kool-Aid. Perry Ferrell (peripheral) the vocalist whipped his locks like helicopter rotors pretty much non-stop the entire show. It was as they began their second song I realized it was possible to have a hang-over sonically beaten out of a person. Awesome show.
As a life long fan I always felt that the guitar at 11:10 was just a clam and they left it in for the sake of some spice, his solos always feel quite one-take.
OMG I somehow lost track of this fantastic track and haven't heard the song in probably 20-25 years. Amazing to run across it again on this channel of all places.
Those first 2 album's are stunning especially side 2 of ritual, been caught stealing is literally the worst track off of either album which is a shame that people judge them off of it you are missing out of one the most important and influential bands that lead to the death of hair metal similar to the sex pistols killing prog
I know I heard this record (a friend loaned it to me on cassette), but I don't remember this song. I was never really sold on Perry Farrell's singing, even back when I listened to more music along these lines. Some good detailed points in your reaction. Some day I'll get back to some of my the songs I requested and then changed my mind about, the ones with English lyrics and at least rock adjacent.

Loved that bass tone too. Good song. What a wild time he must have had! Not Jealous, much...

Without a doubt their best song

Such a great song and what a solo!

I did enjoy a lot of the guitar work on this. I had that in an earlier draft of the comment that got lost (probably my fault in this case).
Then She Did next!
