    I thoroughly enjoyed this tutorial! I learned quite a lot. I have a quite amount of damaged photos due to fire and water damage. Photoshop 23 - 2025 have done wonders for helping restore photos. Compared to PS CS6 and below which were good, these new versions of PS are a miracle. Thanks for a great tutorial!

    Hey - thanks so much Dave - never did a photo restoration but I have a request for an image that has some brown spots and sun damage. What is best way to correct? I am a techtard so I need step by step (like a recipe) instructions.

      I just went back and retried fixing an old image. Comparing the old versus new method. Basic look of each method is close until you look closely; the Face Recovery of the Neural Filter far exceeds my manual attempt. I am now going to use the Neural Filter moving forward. (Plus it is easier to implement.)

    Finally, some features *worth* updating for.
    Most of these AI filters have just been gimmicks, as far as I'm concerned, but that Restoration filter is working nicely now. Considering how much time I've spent restoring old /damaged photos this last few years, anything that shortens that workflow may actually extend my life expectancy.
    Sadly, it would seem that using this AI most likely involves upgrading my PC. Again.
    Delete and CA Fill and the selection tool upgrades are what may actually tip the scales for me this year.
    Anyway, Dave, you're my go to guy for PS and Topaz, not to mention TK7 (yeah, I know, but I wanted to learn TK7 first, before I moved to TK8) related stuff now. You convinced me to get my first Topaz programs, now I'm hooked. Keep up the good work.

    Newbie here. I have an Epson 600 scanner for photos, and I am hoping to use it and, I guess, Photoshop to restore old family photos. I am reading here that Photoshop with Neural effect is not working on Windows10, which I have. I don't want computer crashes, etc., so I'd appreciate any info on this. Will it work? Not? What do I need to run Photoshop with Neural effect, which seems very useful. Thank you in advance for any info!

    'Half tone' is the method used for printing photographs and artwork in a magazine: flyer: newspaper. All images are made up from dots ( with spaces in between ) so if you 'copy' one and put it in an editing program you will clearly see the dots. Although I don't have this feature in my ancient Photoshop 6.0 I am guessing it attempts to remove the visual dots. ( not easy to do )

    For some reason Photoshop 23 doesn't work with my computer (Windows 10 Pro Version)
    . I have downloaded, deleted and re-downloaded several times with the same result. The program will open on my computer but the program it's completely locked up. To close the program I have to use "Task Manager". A search of Google indicates I am not alone in having problems with this version of PS, but I haven't seen any fixes yet. Perhaps your subscribers know one.

    Reading the Adobe website it looks like this Neural Filter is not available for general release it is still in a beta version not available to the general public. Is that your understanding?

    Great video. I have perhaps a thousand or more old family photos going back to 1900 that I need to edit and catalog into a family pictorial database. I can't spend a lot of time on any one. This may be the ticket.

    I do a lot of old photo restoration and was happy to see the new Neural Filter in Photoshop 2023. Normally, I use the Clone Stamp tool and the Healing Brush tool for this, but this takes a lot of time. To reduce noise, sharpen the photo and recover the faces, I use the plug-ins from Topaz, mostly Photo AI. That works great. But again, very time consuming. I hoped the new Restoration Neural Filter could speed up my workflow. I tried it last week and my PC crashed... My computer is a 9 year old Windows 10 PC. Works fine with all other software, but I guess it's too old for the heavy Neural Restoration filter.

      You won’t regret upgrading to a new computer. The use of fast graphics cards by Topaz means it does the work in mere seconds. I use a few years old PC with a fast nvidia graphics card. Really sped my workflow

    I’ve been using it and it’s good but very slow even with fast computer and fast graphics card. However The face restoration is better with Topaz photo Ai and so I’ve been using a combination for old photos I have been restoring. I use The photo ai after the neural filter

    Question. There are a number of functions that are still only operative in Photoshop 2023 Beta - as prior to the release this neural filter in the actual "final" of 2023 - was only available in Beta, till now.
    Are we better off just using the Photoshop Beta version than the actual Photoshop version and if not, why? Thank you.

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  2 роки тому +1

      That is a good question. I have never used the beta version. It might be an option. I think if you download the beta you would still have access to the actual version. If that is the case, you would have the best of both worlds.

    • @erik1836
      @erik1836 2 роки тому

      @@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Yes, you do have access to both and the option to use either; both also automatically update without any interference with each other or need to take any action.
      I, actually, wouldn't have even known that either the Photo restoration function was under development or even about Photoshop Beta existing if Unmesh, at PixImperfect hadn't mentioned it. Check out his new approved by Adobe and Available - Compositing Photoshop Plug-in video, which I bought the other day, but have yet to have a chance to use.
      In any event, in his latest video from yesterday re 17 "hidden" new functions (or was it 13!) in 2023 Photoshop, he also noted a nice feature that is only available in the Apple OS Beta.
      That means - either Adobe thinks more highly of we Windows users - and doesn't want to give us the buggy new software first or, that they think more highly of Apple computer users and want them to have any advantages first! Lol Perplexing that!
