He was getting compared to Jordan when he was a teenager, and that clearly went to his head. It arguably became an obsession over time, especially when it became clear that he wouldn't be able to exactly match it. What he failed and has failed to realize is that he was setting himself up for failure before his professional career even began. Like Batman said in 'The Dark Knight': "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." LeBron has been trying to prolong his basketball life past its expiration date, and now he is the villain. To your point about LeBron retiring back in 2020, I don't think that would've made much of a difference.
