I used this stitch but with a 5 stitch shell to make several of the 28 blocks I made for this WUA project. It really is my favorite for the same reason you like it.
This stitch looks very nice. Dense. Good stitch for a thick winter blanket. Easy instructions to follow. I cannot wait to try it and see what I will create with it.
I made this last night and it turned out really nice. I like tight stitching. Granny squares have too many holes in them lol. Thank you for the tutorial!!
Hi Tiffany, this closed scallop stitch is beautiful! I have some ice yarn in the color Picasso rainbow and I think that yarn and this stitch would make a beautiful car seat blanket for my grand daughter. I consider myself an advanced beginner but I think I could do this. Many thanks Tiffany , for sharing your wonderful talent. Xoxo Liz B
Hi Tiffany! Thank you this beautiful pattern. Love this for Warm up America, and a block blankets for my great grandchildren. You are an amazing teacher, love all your tutorials.
Love the pattern. I’m going to try it. It is single and double crochet. It is very pretty and the swatch looks so much more complicated. My sisters will be impressed.
Hi Tiffany Hansen right now I am working on my cottage core mosaic blanket and granny squares and I love your channel and your videos and if you keep making videos I will keep watching them and what is your favorite crochet project to work on right now and favorite types of yarn to used when crocheting and I love this and i want to try this stitch sometime
I have used this stitch as an advanced beginner! I loved it!! I love these swatch videos! I would love to know how to join these together myself. I love the scrappy look and would like to try a swatch blanket.
I agree about the degree of difficulty with this stitch - it's probably an experienced beginner at the most. Once you get the ends and the first row down, it's a fast and easy stitch to work up. Learning this stitch on this swatch project is also a perfect practice project too, because once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to whip this up for larger blankets (I like this for a fancy baby blanket because it's a tight stitch overall) and be able to work in variations like a half shell or a five double stitch shell. What a great pattern for WUA!!
BOBBI!!!! I'm so excited to hear from you! I actually had you in mind when making this swatch because I know that you love shells and fan stitches. 🤗🤗 Especially for baby blankets. This stitch is awesome for, like you said, those tighter stitches/no holes for baby blankets. Let's get together soon Lady! I miss our crochet hang outs. 😊🧡🧶
I love this pattern, I love to crochet. I have a broken elbow and so I am out of crochet time right now. But I will definitely pick this up And give it a try. Thanks for sharing
I can do this, Tiffany. I have only been crocheting for eight months, but I have learned so much. I will practice this new stitch and begin doing rectangles as soon as I can!!
I'm so glad you like this pattern! You can fund a bunch of patterns on UA-cam, Pinterest, and on warmupamerica.org. I'm working on adding more patterns as I can. 🤗💖🧶
Hi, that is so nice and is so simple. I like it already went to get my stash of yarns from the basement Cubbie hole I made just for my yarns, and I'm raring to go, I'll let you know how it's turning out.
Hi Tiffany, love your tutorial. I've been a crocheter since I was a young girl, but only knew single and double crochet. I have learned a bunch from you tube tutorials and yours as well. I made some swatches for warm up America last year, I'm wanting to do this again in you new swatches. Where is can I find the address to send them. Thank you so much for your for all you do, love your tutorials. Cathy, from Washington state
Hi Cathy! The address for the Warm Up America office is 3740 N Josey Ln Suite #126, Carrollton, TX 75007 Please be sure to mark on the box that your items are for Tiffany's campaign.
Oh I do! This is a special project specifically for Warm Up America Swatches. But if you would like to use this pattern to make something bigger the multiple stitch count requirement is a multiple of 6 + 1 :). Enjoy!
Hi Tiffany, I used the Caron Simply Soft 4 Worsted yarn, a 4.5mm hook, chained 31 to start, and followed the pattern. When I finished my 20 rows, my finished swatch was 6.25X7.25. I was nowhere near 7X9. What did I do wrong? I'm guessing I needed to use the same yarn that you used? Is that what I did wrong? Need advice, please. Thank you.
Hi Barbara! Oh no! I have noticed that depending on the brand of yarn, the sizes of the yarn actually differ a bit. It almost looks like you could get away with adding a whole extra Scallop stitch in row 1. And then work however many rows you will need to meet that length dimension. The Multiple Stitch Count Requirement for this Closed Scallop stitch is a multiple of 6 + 1. I hope that helps!
I love your pattern. I am working on the veteran squares right now. My question is how do I keep the first chain row from stretching out when I put the 4 double crochets in 1 chain? Or is that normal? Any advice will be greatly appreciated 😊
Hey I have a quick question I really like this stitch pattern is this something that has to be worked in a square or can you use it to work in a regular blanket/throw project and if so what sort of starting chain would you recommend?
Great question! The multiple stitch count requirement for the closed scallop crochet stitch is a multiple of 6 + 1. If you need help finding how many stitches you will need to make the blanket size you want to make I actually made a video to help you out! Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/b-3T66NjVls/v-deo.html
Awesome! I’ll share this video with my friends in case they’re not subscribed. Quick question - should the squares all be done in red, white or blue? Thank you for sharing! 💜🧶
Awe! Thank you so much for sharing my video. I hope they might join in the fun and make something for the campaign. 😊 Oh, please feel free to play with the colors however you want! All solid like I did or combine colors or work one color until it runs out and attach another color randomly where ever. 😉
Hey Tiffany. I just wanted to give you a heads up. In your free pattern (thanks for that😊) the crochet hook mm is listed as 4.50, in the tutorial you said 4.00, G/6. Again, just letting you know. Not being a hater. I love your tutorials. I finally made your Tiffany top last weekend and LOVE it.
Oh 100% Kelley! Blankets are preferred if you can make one in time for our campaign. Or even if you won't be able to finish in time for our campaign but still want to make a blanket that is amazing! Warm Up America accepts donations year round. They never stop! Rectangular swatches can be easier and faster sometimes. 😊🧶🧡
I'm Cathie, and I just watched your video. I noticed that for this one, you chained 31. Does that mean if I want to make a blanket for myself with it, I would chain an odd number?
Thank you for your reply. I have another question. I also saw another of your warm up America videos where you share the Seed and Trinity designs. Could I make those swatches for this warm up America, or do I have to do the Close Scallop design?
Great question! They can be any color or combination of color! I just had the yarn available and kept everything one color as I could. Then when I ran out of that one color I attached another color wherever I stopped and kept going. 😄. The Red, White, and Blue colors were specific to the Veteran Campaign. However, if you would like to donate sections to Warm Up America without a specific charity in mind, they welcome any and all colors and will place them in whichever charity needs them. 😊🧡🧶
It's like because you have to remember something it makes it intermediate, when the only thing you have to know is how to watch, count, double crochet, and yarn over and pull through a loop or two. Well, then you have to look at what you did and then repeat it over and over. I guess that's what makes it hard, huh? I'm all about the monkey see, monkey do. I don't have the patience for deciphering diagrams or reading confusing instructions that you have to repeat from the asterisk and learn what the heck the parentheses in the description means. I just want to do the thing - don't bother me with the details, ya know? P.S. I'm self-taught from 5th grade in '72, I must have skipped that gauge section of the book my mother gave me, so I don't bother with gauge swatches either, because I somehow inherently know what size hook I need to use to get there. As I grew up I measured after the fact, if it mattered. I've hardly ever been wrong, but when I have, that is usually due to machine oil being atomized in the air in the yarn Factory causing a film on it, making it feel squidgy or squeaky as you try to work it , which causes Havoc with tensioning because the yarn just won't slide as it should. You know your stitches tend to be spread out when there is much slack, and if you can't easily maintain even tension...

Hi Tiffany, this pattern is great! I am going to try it on a bag I am making. Thanks for the awesome tutorials. 🥰🥰🥰

Hi Maritza! Great question! This pattern is worked up in a multiple stitch count of a multiple of 6 + 1 😊🧶🧡

I would like to know too. A beautiful stitch for a baby blanket.
Me too!!
Me too! 😊
I did a multiple of 3 plus 1
Great question! If you wanted to use this pattern for a different project the Multiple Stitch Count is actually a multiple of 6 + 1 :)
