They've swapped seats and I don't know how I'll make it through.
I didn't even notice.
I'M SO CONFUSED
WHERE DO I LOOK?! WHERE?!!
The glass breaking sound effect gets me every time
They're so consistent with it too it's amazing.
It never gets old.
Me too: it causes nerve pain because he does not match levels with his sound effects.
Because it's so casually inserted, it catches you offguard every time and that's why you laugh. If you were expecting it, it probaly wouldn't be as funny. It would further the gag a ton if they had a bunch of different glass breaking sounds, because then it heightens the surprise that leads to the giggle.
How many cups would they end up breaking?
"Two in the front, one in the back"
- Lee Anderton
Screen shot or never happened !!!
Lenny Henry Gotta give you props for that roast, that was insane
I didn't even realise I'd said that until I watched the video back - I must be subliminally smutty!
+CaptAnderton you know the parts
+CaptAnderton ooh you are awful, but I like you.
You should've got the real pedals alongside it for comparison. I demand a reshoot!!
Not a bad idea, actually.
I SUGGESTED THAT WHEN THE VIDEO WAS FIRST UPLOADED, ITS NOT GONA HAPPIN
It's OK Rob. I thought Wikipedalia was funny.
Thanks to :-)
+Rob Chapman how does it sound with a bass?
+Rob Chapman what would you recommend as a beginner guitar? is a squier affinity HSS any good?
What's your budget and what kind of music do you want to play?
im just a random internet guitarist without name recognition, but i think the kramer baretta special is one of the best low budget guitars around. its simplistic, well made, and pretty versatile for a single pickup guitar. good for modding when you develop preferences too since it only has one pickup and one volume knob but a decent sized electronics cavity.
I've bought this pedal, and it sounds really great, much more better than zoom ms50 or line6. It's more like a KPA for pedals, not just some lame digital pedal. I have a ts9 , and the ts9 model in xtomp sounds exactly the same, even clean up very well, which bias or zoom can never do. For those who thought the distortion sounds terrible, that's because the pedal it clones sounds like that, what are you expecting for a ds1 or metal zone. Definitely worth that price.
Does it come with the miku pedal???
You're asking the real questions
I think they can haha
hahaha!! i forgot about that review! lmao!!
Kei Synester best question ever. So does it?!
GeoAl09 currently no 🤣
i'll check back on this digital modelling stuff in about 10 years...
You say that like they didn't get good sounds in this video.
+BigFatCock this pedal is not done. it sounded hideous
will M Sounded pretty good to me. I guess it's subjective.
BigFatCock i enjoyed the video, but i prefer analog stuff i guess...
I said that ten years ago.
Just wanted to say, I've been watching your in depth perfectly lengthy guitar gear reviews for some time now, and it's absolutely the best out there!!!
I truly love the awesome, professional production quality. Everything about it rocks!!! Keep it up, I recommend viewing them to everybody. Never stop! ✌🏻️🤘🏻😈
Why do I find you two knuckleheads so damn amusing? I even find myself going back and watching some of your vids several times. Love what you do.
...even though I don't like this pedal at all. Doesn't sound good to my ear...at all.
I don´t get all the hate on this pedal, the chorus sounded pretty good, distortion was average, and delay was good. It´s like all of you guys commenting had thousands of dollars/pounds to spend on gear.
Just too expensive to sound average
it's basically a super-expensive MIDI controller, I'd rather get a good standalone multi, like a Henretta or a Fly Rig 5.
It's because guitar players inherently hate anything new or innovative even if they know very little about it. It's like guitars. If it doesn't say Gibson or Fender on the head stock they just say it's shit even if they've never played it.
I saw this pedal on Instagram a few days ago completely by chance, funny to see you guys make a video of it! Very well done
You've swapped seats and it just doesn't look right.
they're like rhett and link lol, chappers' always on the left and cap is always on the right
I know I'm freaking out here, it's just not right man!
It doesn't "sit" right with me, either!
Always a lot of fun. Well done gents!
This thing is awesome. I loved the slow mo while the down load was finishing.
I have a Digi Tech RP 80 I found at a swap meet for 20$
I would love to upgrade to this.
Dear Mr.Chapman,
you are such a brilliant man!
BTW I really enjoyed the video with Greg Koch - omg, what a legend!
Bless you and your work, guys!
Much love from the Czech republic!
One day we'll see Rob play several notes together at the same time. They'll call it a "chord" and celebrate him for years to come.
I have this pedal and absolutely love it. Sounds exactly like the real pedals and is super solid. The sound quality of these effects is leaps and bounds better than my line6 multi effects pedal
Adam Devo how is that bullshit? Lol
My first pedal was a metal zone and is currently the next one on my buy list. Classic.
You guys are great! I enjoy the commentary between the guitar playing. I know you've received some criticism about tour videos, I guess there are haters for everyone .. Cary on and change nothing because people can be contemptuous ..
Always love the Andertons videos. The coffee cub breaking always make me laugh. I am a total coffee fiend.
Thanks for your vids guys. Informative and entertaining! 😊
Oh my gosh, thank you for your videos, they are great for helping with getting over a flu, I will have to let the doc know for future issues and other patients, lol
Hey rob I met you last weekend at le pub on the Dorje gig thanks for taking photos with me ur a legend :D!!!
Interesting piece of kit =D
that attempted slow motion moment was great xD
If you're supposed to say "Hot Tone" then the people misspelled the name of their own company.
that's bugging me too... it's a bit of a SPECIAL thing without a hyphen out something.
I know what I call that...😁
Haha right!
It's pronounced hoto nay
It's japanese
You win! Ha!
I can hear the drop in quality caused by this pedal (Probably only because im listening through great headphones), however..... I can understand how this would be an AMAZING deal for most guitar players. This is probably the most valuable tool to take you from the beginning stages of recording and playing into the middle stages. And on top of that, it is very mobile, and thw tech will be supported by the company for many years to come.
looks awesome greetings from Australia!
I think this is the coolest pedal ever! 🤘
Well it compresses....
The funniest moment that needs to be replayed cause I nearly missed it!!!
What a cool product. Sounds great too.
One thing, in my opinion, that would have made this better, is if the knobs were motorized. Like faders on a digital mixer. Then as you switch pedals each could start from default settings, and allow you to save your settings for each individual pedal to be recalled instantly. The way it works now you just get the knob position from the pedal before which is probably not going to be anywhere near a useful sound on the next one.
LOVE Rob's tone at 28:33!! Sounds amazing!!
I love how the bassbreaker has become a mainstay on this show. Those seem like stellar amps!
You know? Sometimes I marvel at all the technology and I am guilty of using it all and get bamboozled by the choices but still refer myself back to Sgt pepper or the White Album (Yes a Beatles fan) being only 4 track.
My positives are the amount of effects or tones are free and you don't have to spend a zillion pounds dollars etc to get what you want. When I were younger I had to spend a fortune to buy one pedal.
My down side is it all get amazingly complicated and you spend more time trying to work out what you want and stop being creative quickly.
I love Chappers and the Captain. Cant resist watching their vids.
Keep it up guys.
You guys are entertaining as hell.
The more i see Rob's strat, the more i love it.
Yeah it's a beautiful colour. I've been wanting a strat for a while and now I think I want one this colour.
+Stuart Arcari in person it looks even better, the color is wonderful. I also love the seafoam green.
+Vitor Duzarte surf green, fiesta red and sonic blue are my favourites
Loving the breaking mugs, and the pedal.
i have used this pedal in my bass rig for so many years as an overdrive,,, its good
Can we just take a moment and appreciate Rob Chapmans hairstyle? That layering and that split is on point!
Oooooh I wonder how well this would work on a Bass?? I heard you say Big Muff Captain?! What about having a look at this for all about the Bass?! Curve ball?!
The coffee glass break sound gets me every time. I really thought Lee dropped his coffee cup. Whoever is editing these videos is paying attention.
I am becoming more and more intrigued with Hotone. BTW it will forever be ho-tone(respectfully and lovingly)
It's about time I left a comment after years of entertainment and help to me and my band mates (since 2010). You two have helped me find the best amps over the years. HOWEVER.. guitars is another matter.. Either I have bad luck or something, but any guitar I have wanted to know more about (in my price range) you haven't reviewed and even at NAMM you walk right past those ones, just giving a sweeping glance as Lee walks by. So I still haven't found that perfect guitar for drop-tuning and metal. My local store doesn't go for those.. More light-twangy Fenders and Gretsch (all good guitars too though)
There are a lot of variables that come into play when searching for the perfect guitar. As far as downtuning goes, it depends on how low that you need to go. if I were you I would search out a different music store and try to sample as many different brands that you can get your hands on. My go-to is the prs se line but I'm planning on scooping up an epi les paul in a couple of days. Do as much research as you can whether you buy in store or online. Good luck with your search, and have a great day
i get you ... but nowadays there is a little relief: find a propper "Big store" like Andertons or Thomann or Session and order one with 30 days back guaranties ...
I would have a close look at the Ibanez range: the offer great affordable guitars with extended scale length for drop tunings
I was sort of skeptical but this pedal looks really cool actually.
I’ve only recently learned about this pedal.
I got it free with my ampero II purchase. It’s fantastic.
looks cool, bit of a learning curve.
What happens when some funny guy turns up at your gig with the app on his phone?..
Exactly what I thought. A bandmate could do that too - aspecially a bassist or rythm guitarist that envies you for the solos.
I think most bluetooth devices only allow one connection at a time.
Yes I would imagine you can't connect multiple phones to the pedal, and I should think there is a disconnect and connect process... (Havent' watched the video yet lol i'm at work ;-( )
Mezurashii5 Spotted the self absorbed lead guitarist
Hi, The XTOMP is password protected.
179 pounds for the pedal, and 700 for the phone.
works with androids i heard
***** I know. Tis a joke
Yep according to hotone it works on android.
Waste of money and time. These patches are standard on TH2
I've had both phones both work great but with touch ID and 3D touch my 6s won't be going anywhere for a while
the smashing cup never gets old
@CaptAnderton @Rob Chapman Seeing as these are replicating pedals by name, knobs and all, it would be really cool for you guys to do a blindfold challenge where you listen to the model and the real pedal set to identical settings.
I think hotone have done a great job with this pedal
This is great for the studio. I have it hooked up USB to my iMac and it loads in 1 second. using the heads into the FX return of a tube amp is nice, or just using it as an FX pedal, both work great. I have a lot of the pedals that are in this thing, and they are so close, I could leave my real pedals on the shelf. actually I have! Plus you can see everything better on a real computer like an mica 5k 27in!
Spit my drink twice with the smashing glass sounds and I just noticed that you do the I-chew-gum-when-I-play-fast face :) Great presentation though as always!
LOL, CAP10 still refers to then as Ho-Tone a few times....
I read it as "Hot One", but different strokes I guess
Hey Rob, your hair looks cool in this vid. My favourite Chappers hair-style.
Wikipedalia, nice one :)
I really like this!
How many mugs have you broken so far filming these videos?
probably none
Don't worry, they have a closet full of them like Schroeder and his Beethoven busts.
Don't worry it's just a digital effect. ;~)
im buying two of these when they are released.
Omg I lost my shit at 25:15. Such a build up only to end in the happiest, simple major chord ever haha... that face.
Well. Done.
Hotone makes great stuff.
This is a great pedal for beginners who are still experimenting with sounds and just want to try things out with out spending thousands. All the analogue elitists need to chill
Can you guys do a blindfold test between the real pedal and the xtomp pedal as would be interested to see how they compare
Luke Rose, awesome fucking idea
The metal zone sounds great. Good for Megadeth style riffs.
I'd rather get 1 decent pedal than thousands of mediocre ones which depend on a phone.
i wouldn't
I believe it's better for those that have that odd song requiring a certain sound that's not on the rest of the set list. There is no use to carry around a flanger, phaser, auto wah and fuzz pedal if one is going to just use them 5 times each per tour.
to be up front I don't see any viable situation for this thing to really come in handy... live? Too fiddly. The prep time for that thing to work properly in a situation like that could be spent more wisely. Home recording or practising? There are so much more effects, which - in my opinion - sound way better and are not that pricey. To be honest I did not like any of the sounds.
Yep I think this pedal is useful for the following applications : Multi EQ pedals (so you don't have to touch EQ that you like but don't apply for all sounds) - They don't have an octave pedal (drop tone) in the library, if they get one up that would be useful. Useful for lesser used pedals as you said, if the delays are decent that would be good (a lot of good delays are digital). The only thing I wouldn't use was the distorsion/overdrive pedals. I'll probably get one just for the multiple EQs
For that price you could get 3 or maybe 4 used EQ pedals
That Strat is the star of this video.
Ok I get it! You love analog... we all love analog. For me could be useful for a situation that doesn't require to take mi now enormous pedalboard.
My signature pedal is a Boss SUPER Feedbacker & Distortion. It's pretty ancient and isn't sold anymore, but I really like its sound. The distortion and noise can be a bit heavy though, so I pretty much always use it on a clean sound. It's pretty much an instant metal solo/pig squeal effect, and you can do some really cool stuff with the feedbacker.
HAhhha, looks like that Strat has had Rob channeling his inner Ingwie lately.
9:45...that was some slick edgar wright style editing right there
I think i know where this is going ,and a pedal board with the ability to create patches with this technology would be awesome,
Wikipedalia should totally be a thing.
I own a Zoom MG50 and this pedal seems a bit limited in comparison. If you want to emulate one pedal then the Xtomp is fine, but with the Zoom you can do that in addition to chaining several pedals in any order you like. On the Xtomp it looks like the chaining is restricted to the order of whatever "combo" pedals are made available by Hotone.
One other thing is the Xtomp knobs. Once you've selected a new pedal in the Xtomp, the direction of the knob pointers don't mean anything until you turn one of the knobs, then that knob will reflect a parameter in the emulation.
The other thing about the knobs is they're not labelled, so unless you have a phone paired to the device you're probably not going to remember what each knob does.
And for that matter, you don't know which pedal the Xtomp is emulating either until you've paired it to a phone or tablet. This is in comparison to the Zoom, which has its own LCD display.
Admittedly the Zoom has its own limitations - the user interface of the onboard LCD can be a bit confusing without reading the manual. And Zoom don't seem to be upgrading the MG50's firmware any more, so you're probably not going to see any more features being made available for it. This will happen to the Xtomp at some point too, of course. Ideally you'd want to be able to program the DSP directly to create your own effects, and not be restricted to just the patches Hotone (or Zoom) provides.
Worst case, in the long term you could find the Xtomp app inexplicably disappearing from the App Store or Play Store, and you're left with a device that you can no longer program or configure. That's probably fairly unlikely, but something to think about with the Xtomp, and other devices that work like it.
Loving the coffee sounds.
If it works like I think it does, the Cab Model is actually the most exciting feature, it would be great for someone wanting to use an amp at extremely low volume to get real tone... with your cab volume all the way down, you could feed the line out of an amp into this and then out to some powered monitors or something to get real tone at true bedroom levels
Absolutely right, the Digitech iStomp app-based effects weren't for free when the pedal first was introduced. But later on Digitech gave all those app-based effects away for free, except for just one. One the other hand the price of the iStomp was way lower compared to the Hotone Xtomp, so one can calculate between the two options and probably will find out that finally the Xtomp is the more expensive pedal... Maybe the soundquality has improved in the meantime compraed to the iStomp-days, but anyway, for me it remains digital and is only able to imitate the 'real' thing. I presume in the long run the Xtomp will become a Xtomb like the iStomp (R.I.P.)...
this is perfect for the ocasional jam session. I need to save my pennies.
Wow !!!!!!!! So fantastic...sound like better .than ......amplifier.
this is actually amazing technology. I wish it wasn't bluetooth from your phone though, and maybe the knobs could say what they do on the pedal. In a few years time I bet someone's gonna make a really refined version of this.
I wonder if some sort of e-ink display on the pedal surface would be nice with these kinds of products. Add nice texts next to the pots without lcd displays.
niceeee!! please do a sounds like video !!this time you do it !! itll be great
that is amazing
The only other thing I would want on there is a phaser pedal, also, the delay with reverb sounds freaking amazing.
Hey Captain and Chapper.
Here is a blindfold test for the two of you.
Could you blindly tell apart a .. Blackstar artist 30 vs the Vox AC30 ?
Let us know .
Love the Xtomp though.
10:03 Capt puts all his strength into wrecking his mug XD
So I have a tc electronics pipeline tremolo pedal that you can download new sounds to, via your phone by holding it near your pick-ups and yes it makes old dial-up modem sounds and voilà, it travels into your pick-ups through your guitar lead and into the pedal. I think I bought it about 3 years ago.
awesome strat
What it really needs is a small color display that can show the name of the pedal (and you should be able to configure the color to make it easy to quickly identify which pedal is which when you are using more than one.)
all I heard in this was blah blah blah and me drooling over Rob and his new amazing guitar haha awesome video guys
Rob says "Thats good with the time it takes to download I have time to get a coffee!"
As Cap'n'Chap, along with many other posters have already noted, this sort of thing has been attempted previously with minimal success. Would of been good if hotone had included a pog style (multi octave) and pitch (3rds, 5ths, octaves etc..) effects at launch, also would be awesome if the stereo (right) jacks could operate in an alternative mode as remote switches for tap tempo, expression control, etc.. 2, what about adding MIDI via a small MIDI style plug like the beat buddy does. These are pretty basic things that if they launched with I would of been interested in. Whilst I get what they are going for, I not overly impressed with this pedal nor the launch offerings . The wait for bluetooth data transmission was a bit embarrassing, I thought the guys did an awesome job of demonstrating that. I love the fact that this is a "new"ish direction for pedals and whilst you have to give it to "Ho-Tone" for making a reasonable effort, one wonders if they had just gone that extra mile, they would of ended up with a product that was an order of magnitude more useful than the one they did, then I quite sure everyone would of felt like they totally "needed" one as a Line 6 M5 preplacement for example, but with 1/2 the footprint. A dual live instant switching memory bank would of been awesome too, load up two effects with presets already stored and instant switch between them with no load time...awesome...well could of been. As someone already mentioned a crystal clean clean tone would of been helpful to hear what the pedal actually sounded like, however it was great to "ze Chapinator" (said in an Arnie voice) disappear off into the depths of his sub conscious and just play cause he was having fun. "Ho-Tone" missed the mark with this one, but did raise the bar a bit in the process for the next iteration of pedals such as these....imho
The Digitech istomp is some of the best pedal money I've spent!! I think it was $29 delivered way over a year, maybe 2 years ago. lol. All the pedals but one have been free for a long time, or I wouldn't have paid $29 for it. It's good for trying out different things, then when you really like something, you can buy a good version.
Looks fun, I am going to stick with a multi effects though. I am hooked on just being able to call up combinations with one stomp.
The "oh" at 2:26 says it all! :D
+Rob Chapman do you think this is the future of pedals, pedals with bluetooth, multi effects etc. or do you think analog pedals that just have ditortion, reverb etc. are just as important as ever?
Really cool consept. A bit like Tone print from TC Electronic, only there you load from your smart phone right into the intrument
All well and good, but does it have a Korg Miku? ;)
It's neat, but a digitech, boss, zoom seem like the better option for now. As someone else said, maybe check back in a few years. Love the design though with the backlit knobs, very nice looking pedal. The only function I can think is perhaps a travel pedal, very small to easily fit in a travel guitar bag.
I can't imagine ever having a Metal Zone on my board, but you know who uses one, like, a LOT? Jim Heath from Rev. Horton Heat. And he gets some pretty great sounds out of it too.
You guys should do a thing where you compare the sound of the original pedal with the Xtomp's version of that same pedal
i have a metal zone and i love it
