  • If you have a laundry room downstairs or in the basement or main floor below your bedrooms you would love a laundry chute because it saves you from having to store dirty laundry upstairs or from having to carry dirty laundry down stairs when it's time to wash the clothing. We love having a laundry chute! I recently helped put one in my parents house they are renovating. See the video for two examples of laundry chutes and think of how you could do one in your home. Another example is to put a laundry chute between the walls so it takes up even less space!

Thanks for the detailed video! My laundry room is open from the rafters to the sub floor so I dont think we need any fire blocking. Luckily ours goes from the master closet right beside the washer. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for making this video!! It's so helpful to see how something is done before you do it yourself. I think I'm going to try to ductwork version for my laundry shute. Thanks again!

Great idea but I think if you made the hole taller so babies or other things can't easily fall in

Good idea! If you have babies around for sure I would make it more baby proof or use a cabinet with a latch or lock on it.

    Use hardy panel
Set 2x6 blocking back 3/8 and get half sheet of 3/8 hardy panel and use firewall grade silicone to seal corners

If I use the cabinet with ductwork version, do I still need to use blocks for fire protection?

Why wasn't there an angled block in front of the second chute to keep a persons foot or shoe going into the hole? There is enough space and it would be much safe for your parents as they age.

That is a great idea! They wanted it like that so they could slide laundry into it. It' far enough in the corner I don't think they would fall into it. I offered to put something above it but they wanted it as is.

My laundry room has a spare bathroom and the master bath is directly over that bathroom I was wondering how well would a chute work if it wasn’t straight up and down but had to travel in an angle for a ways

It depends how far it has to travel horizontally. I had to make mine travel about a foot or two horizontally in my house also so the laundry would land in the right spot and it works well but it can get clogged a bit easier than if it was straight down. There should probably be at least a 45 degree slope so it will not get clothing stuck in it.

Great video, but that cabinet will not stop any fire spread

Probably true. At least if it limits air flow it's probably better than a simple hole in the floor. :)

Information was helpful but you said the same things over and over and over. Need to focus on talking less.

Thanks for the feedback. I should probably come up with a script so I don't do that. Thanks for watching!

I just want to say, Father, that your response was absolutely amazing, and it just shows just how good of a father you truly are.... TBH,...I can't say that my response would have been that Angelic.... Comment pissed me off and Im just an innocent bystander...
