Hey, just wanted to pop in again and say thank you to you and your wife for introducing all of these boardgames to us. When I first commented on your board game vids I only had Catan, now between my family and I we have a growing collection of about 20 different games. Really appreciate how you break down the great aspects of a game, and where they fumble a bit. Your reviews feel really genuine and help me choose easier.
You're spot on with balance, and I think it wouldn't be too hard to do. Give everyone one to three action cards so everyone has that slightly op thing (although even there it's very random, skipping a turn or jumping over walls is way better than moving someone one or two cases) and have movement values imprinted directly on cards: the bigger the wall, the less you walk. The game really has potential to be fun, a shame the randomness kills the strategy too much here.
House rule: 3 or 4 action points a turn. Action cards cost 2 action points to use, movement is 1 point, and barriers are 0 or 1 point (either way works) This nerfs action points, buffs barriers, and removes the randomness of the dice roll.
ya dingus Mazing looks pretty fun. Clever way of making the pieces double sided. Maybe tweak it so that max moves is 3? Like if you roll a 1 or 2 you move 1 space, 3 - 4 you move 2 spaces, 5-6 you move 3 spaces? I don't know. It's just a quick fix for something I haven't played.
Nincadalop yeah it sounds like the standard D6 is an issue, something like that make sense, maybe it would go a little slow and playing 2, 3, or 4 or something would be better. Would definitely make a bunch of house rules for this game
This looks like a game where you'd play it by the book a couple of times with your friends and then just come up with new rules for it. But luckily it doesn't look like a game where coming up with your own rules would ruin how the gameplay works, u know?
I feel like you could solve the issue with replacing 1, 2 and 6 on the die with 1 and 2 being 'play a maze card' and 6 being 'play an action card' and you can only play cards of those types when you roll those numbers.
I like this idea! It’s like Quoridor with more variance. My one complaint right away is that 1d6 movement is not a good movement system. I’d have, say, a base 3 movement speed that’s modified by a d4, or action cards, or something else.
I think the drawing of action and wall cards should be separate. At the beginning you should get four wall cards and two actions. When you play a wall you can immediately draw another, but when you play an action you have to wait two turns before you can draw a new card.
i think allowing each player to walk on their own wall tiles, plus perhaps a method for replacing other's tiles with your own could allow for an interesting strategy mechanic where you use tiles to not only block other players, but to stop them from blocking you
Cody Whitlock I grew up playing bord games alone. It got boring so i decided to play my right and left hands against each other.I named Right green and left blue. Id make the. have little conversations and gave them different personallys. Green almost allways won since i prefured him. This pissed off blue becase he knew it wasn't far and they would argue. honistly it started to scare me a bit so i stoped. And thats why i dont play bord games by myself anymore.
This looks fun. You could separate the block cards and action cards into two piles and only get to pick one card from either pile per round + a smaller number dice.
Simple fixes to the problems at least: Roll a D4 die instead and add 2 to every roll (rolls will be between 3-6 spaces each, so its a bit more fair), and add a penalty for using an action card, like you forfeit your move on that turn, or minus-2 to your movement. You could even just take a number of action cards out of the deck so they're more rare
Move 4 each turn. Gain 1 movement roken each turn. MT stack up to 6. You can spend MT each turn to move of an equal amount. Spend max 3 per turn. Special moves amount fixed at start.
There's a free, printable game called The Way which works on a smaller grid and limits you to placing one blockade and moving one space at a time, it balances well. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2440/way
I was a quite shocked when you said players had to roll a dice to move. You don't really see that in too many board games today, and for good reason too.
They could have fixed this by giving cards a movement number based on how good the action/obstacle was. Longer 4 block pieces allowing you to move 2 spaces where a single block piece allowing you to move 5. You get the point
The concept seems fun, but the individual pieces seem finnicky, so maybe have those pre molded as the shape of the wall? Like, if the wall is 4 segments long, have solid 4 segment block? Just my thinking
Another game called coridor has a similar concept as this maze-racing game. I like it a lot and think it has more balanced and aesthetic quality to it.
Seems like a different version of a game called Quoridor, which is surprisingly one my friends really got into. I think I like Quoridor a bit more as it seems more strategy oriented (ie no dice or cards)
You should try smash up its a tad complicated and requires a bit of math but its really fun since it references a lot of other games or shows (star wars Jurrasic park Game of Thrones.).There is the main game but it has tons of add-on and an online version. Im not sure if it is good at explaining the basics of the game since it gets complicated but the basis is you get action cards and minions have points while actions dont.depending on how many players there are they have bases and they need a certain amount of points to break which you get from minions. When you break a base you get another set of points which are the ones that depend on you winning(i forgot what they're called but I will just call them Wpoints) When the base is broken there are 3 places each one having differing Wpoints Whoever has the most minion points on the board gets first and so on.I probably did a terrible job explaing this so just go look it up...
I really appreciate you reviewing this game. I can see the downfalls, but from what I can see it's the perfect game for me to be able to enjoy with my family (including all the way up from a 46 year old to a 9 year old.) I need more games that can be enjoyable for players of all ages, but accessible to children. If you have any other recommendations for that I would greatly appreciate it!
I think the problem with this game is it's not really a game you can make fun. You see when you take out all the fluff it's a game about resistance, you are trying to go from point A to point B by encountering as little resistance as possible. The primary issue is that every mechanic in the game is based on random chance the player has no real agency other than deciding the optimal path.
The game looks great. I don't like the action card effects though. The designer should have got creative with the dice also, but I guess he wanted to keep it simple, it's a casual game afterall. I don't know much about the gameplay but looks fun anyway.
It looks like a really cool idea. The one thing I was worried about while watching this are those tiles moving all over the place if someone slightly knocks the board. Maybe I'm just a bit OCD, but having dozens of wonky tiles also hurts the minimal aesthetic of the game. I would spend way too long making sure everything was lined up perfectly.
I feel like it's really easy to lose those tiny pieces or cards, which may be a minor *Setback* in the process of playing. Yeah, that's right, I made a pun about this that ISN'T about it being a maze.
Hey prozd, there is a game that me and my family play that's a lot like this, it's called the game of 99 of I remember correctly, you should check it out, and love your videos keep up the good work!
Unless i am not remembering Quoridor correctly. But from my memory, each turn you could place one wall piece and move one space. but i havent played in 10+ years so i could be dead wrong
Put both actions and movement on the cards. Each player have the same deck of cards. Remove the dice. The game is now fully balanced, less frustrating and as casual.
Such a bad design - 'miss a turn' such a fun mechanic. to 'start' fixing this game i'd associate movement to the cards - a maze card gives a movement of 5-6 and a power card gives a movement of 1-2, no need to roll dice, balances out the cards, gives players more of a choice between 'do i play a maze card to get more movement, or do I need to play a power up card but suffer the movement penalty. oh and delete those stupid 'miss a turn' cards
I created a somewhat similar game (unpublished) a few months ago. It's much more balanced and skill-based -- thus, it's much better (in my opinion) than this game.
Game looks great, but I don't know how high the draw rate is for these action cards. It seems too high, maybe you could replace the one on the dice with an *ACTION* icon to make them more situational, but I don't like that kind of artificial balance. My other concern is that the board is to large. I don't think this is a rational criticism, but It should take about 24 moves to get from one side of the board to the other making the board 5x5 these are all just nitpicks, I'll definitely look out for this game, but I could put in a lot of effort and make a better version of this game that's an issue.

Do you have Cosmic Encounter?
MrWillgum I don't, but it's on my radar now!
This game is A- Mazing!
You should expect 20 other comments saying the exact same thing.
A-Mazing
A-Maznig
That's an Add-mazeing pun
This game looks A-Mazing--
DAMNIT!!!

Only one thing I can think of to describe this game!

Pretty cool!
Lol
You should try quorridor. It’s like this but each player only moves one space per turn or put down one block per turn.
This is exactly what I thought. Simpler environment that doesn't need the power cards.
And less random
House rule: 3 or 4 action points a turn. Action cards cost 2 action points to use, movement is 1 point, and barriers are 0 or 1 point (either way works)

This game must have really been amazing.

I never thought you could make a series and be entertaining while playing a board game. Thanks for opening my mind.
I love how he is playing alone 😂 that’s how I play most of my board games too 😂

Cody, join a group in your town. Lots of people who enjoy games don't have anyone to play with.

There is a similar game to this but it is 3D and it is top to bottom and you can place a 2x1 wooden block that fits in the seams of the grids
Also, it has that grid/dot illusion. I wonder if it could have been alleviated.
This concept is super cool, but roll and move kills it for me.
There's a free, printable game called The Way which works on a smaller grid and limits you to placing one blockade and moving one space at a time, it balances well. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2440/way
if they removed the double powers that would be a good step towards balancing
I was a quite shocked when you said players had to roll a dice to move. You don't really see that in too many board games today, and for good reason too.
i'm reminded of dungeon dice monsters
I'm heavily reminded of Blokus
They could have fixed this by giving cards a movement number based on how good the action/obstacle was. Longer 4 block pieces allowing you to move 2 spaces where a single block piece allowing you to move 5. You get the point

Those cards look like tetris blocks! Cool game :)

A homebrew rule. You can only play an Action card if you rolls a 1.
That music is relaxing, it almost put me to sleep 😂
It’s like blokus but a more complex
If anyone is interested in this game, there is a free, printable game called The Way, which is very similar:
boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2440/way
Made me think of sounding. Dont look up sounding
Imagine a crossover of this and blokus
So basically a 4 player Quoridor with different shapes.
Mazing is amazing
I wonder if 2d4 would work better than 1d6, sure it's still random but you'd be much more likely to roll between 4-6 than 2,3 or 7,8...
How many actions would you think is appropriate? What would be your house rules?
Man, this looks kinda fun actually

I remember playing something like this on Webkinz.
Nice constructive criticism. Like, actually sounds really helpful.
can we see you playing the games along with explaining them? Would love to see that
Reminds me of Quoridor, this looks like a nice mixup

Great review.

SpoilThatSong Agreed. The board should have been recessed so the tiles can lay snug inside each square. Way too much bump the table potential.
I feel like it's really easy to lose those tiny pieces or cards, which may be a minor *Setback* in the process of playing.
Yeah, that's right, I made a pun about this that ISN'T about it being a maze.
Seems pretty similar to Quoridor.
This is like, big quoridor with cards.
Ooooh that looks fun!

Hey prozd, there is a game that me and my family play that's a lot like this, it's called the game of 99 of I remember correctly, you should check it out, and love your videos keep up the good work!
or having sorry-style movement cards, but a few in your hand
why did the pawn cross the board?
because he rolled a six!
This feels like an inelegant clone of quoridor...
This a more advanced version of Quoridor. Very interesting
Troy Kennen other comments on this video make it sound like Mazing is a less advanced version
Unless i am not remembering Quoridor correctly. But from my memory, each turn you could place one wall piece and move one space. but i havent played in 10+ years so i could be dead wrong
So great that companies just send u stuff to play.. but it must be daunting to try and learn the rules n stuff💋💋💋
and i totally didn't even try to include a pun on the name in my comment💪💪💪
it looks like muggle dungeon dice monsters
This game sure is mazing.
1/4 dice might be nice
Put both actions and movement on the cards. Each player have the same deck of cards. Remove the dice. The game is now fully balanced, less frustrating and as casual.
Such a bad design - 'miss a turn' such a fun mechanic.
to 'start' fixing this game i'd associate movement to the cards - a maze card gives a movement of 5-6 and a power card gives a movement of 1-2, no need to roll dice, balances out the cards, gives players more of a choice between 'do i play a maze card to get more movement, or do I need to play a power up card but suffer the movement penalty.
oh and delete those stupid 'miss a turn' cards
a 445566 dice would probably work a lot nicer.
If you like this game I recommend Sorry Sliders.
Is it weird that I get ASMR while he's explaining the game?
Mazing 1 move=1 clothing remove
I think the enemy just got the point
Mazinga
I created a somewhat similar game (unpublished) a few months ago. It's much more balanced and skill-based -- thus, it's much better (in my opinion) than this game.
