Interesting note: The holes on the bottom of the foot pocket were originally drilled in by divers manually, and their purpose was to relieve the "suctioning effect". When you stick your foot into the fin, during a dive, the pressure allows the foot to squeeze in deeper into the foot pocket. When you come back up, and pressure drops, everything expands, including the boot, trapping negative pressure down at the toes in the foot pocket. This can make it a monumental struggle to remove the fin, and some people have to pull with all their might to get them off. However, drilling a couple holes in the bottom allows water to flow freely, and thus, prevents the suction from occurring. More and more companies these days have FINALLY taken the hint and started incorporating these holes into the designs of their fins foot pockets. An added BONUS to this is, water also drains out of the foot pocket when carrying the fin by the straps (which is how they should be carried, whether by hand or by clipping them off).
