I'm noticing almost no white people in the show! Took me season 2 to realize lol. That's kinda cool. Idk where they live or if thats how it is there or what
A successful profanity-free comedy is almost unheard of now. But creator/writer Ins Choi and writers Kevin White and Garry Campbell keep nailing it every time.
@@almason253 They curse in the show. And _most_ sitcoms don't have cursing, especially here in the States, even if they have mature themes. Profanity doesn't make or break a show. Poor, lazy, sloppy writing does.
This is just like Pat Morita's Mr Miyagi. Unless you're Korean or around real Korean accents a lot you wouldn't know. I am Korean and I knew their accents were fake. It is close in the sense that it's a good fake of a real Korean accent.
I liked how they went a little meta in the episode where Jung is impersonating the restaurant workers, doing the Asian accent, and then Shannon comes in and starts doing the same accent and everyone gives her a weird look.

Law Office of Joshua Y. Lee I think it depends. My mom and dad both have strong Korean accents and I am korean and i honestly thought their accents were real
@@LawOfficeofJoshuaYLee Yeah I'm white af and I knew they were fake. Idk if people say "what you talking" etc. Seems like an exaggerated stereotype more than anything. So I came to UA-cam ti find their real voices. Didn't expect him to sound likee that though! Different voice!
It makes me so sad to know how hard the cast members had to fight for their voices and accurate + respectful portrayals while filming. I hope these stars know that revealing their struggles with scripts/producers/cultural inaccuracies on set is such a helpful and honorable thing to do. It's clear that these actors are knowledgeable and each have their own impressive paths - I am rooting for you each all the way.
I'm from across the border in the U.S. I love this show, and their words on the importance of representation are especially meaningful to me, as someone who was born and grew up in the States to an immigrant family. It's incredible how many parallels there are in our experiences. Appa and Ŏmma remind me so much of my parents when I was growing up.
They should keep making this for the next decade. Remind's me a lot about my childhood watching 'under one roof’ a convenient store based sitcom out of Singapore 26 years ago.
YES!! I'm Korean-American and felt such a deep and profound connection to this show. I can't get over how real some of their Korean mannerisims are, especially when appa is frustrated. Sounds like my dad!
It's unfortunate that in the end the show ended in disgrace because they felt like they were Koreans expressing white culture and passing it off as Korean.
I am from Nigeria and I absolutely love this show. My favorite phrase is “Sneak attack”. It’s interesting to hear them without their accents. Especially Mr. Kim.
I've watched all of the Kim's Convenience episodes(LOVE this show). Now I'm going to binge Schitts Creek. I've already watched all Letterkenny as well(before COVID). I'm also binging Fringe which is amazing!
Very nice show. Have just finished binging season 2 and love it. I thought the writing drooped a bit at the end of season 1 but season 2 was strong all the way through. It kinda makes me a bit jealous that I and my family aren't so talkative and effortlessly witty. I know it's a show of course but it's kind of sad that real life isn't so rose coloured. That's what shows are for I guess, to entertain us and take us out of reality for a while.
reflective of how authentic Paul and Jean's acting is. They deserve so much appreciation for nailing typical Asian parents in English speaking countries. Appa: "yeh I deserve"
obviously i knew their accents were fake, especially with learning korean for a few years but still hearing them without their accent was shocking lmao
Wow it's interesting to hear them without their accents :)
It's scary
@@bobbyboo22_ especially mr kim
James Fisher definitely

I literally freaked out so hard
Appa and Umma without their accents have me shook. But they good at it.

STOP! What you talking?

Just discovered show on Netflix during co-vid pandemic.. When it is scary to be Asian.. This show is much needed for my spirit
Lol same here. I discovered it late Tuesday night and I just finished all 4 seasons 30 minutes ago. I can't wait for S5
I found this last year when I first arrived in Toronto. No friends, don't know what to do so pretty much stayed in most of the time.
Bruh same

There's something so pure and wholesome about Canadian sitcoms. ♥️

thats exactly what I thought. Kim's & Schitts Creek are both so pure & wholesome
Any recs for other good Canadian sitcoms?

Love how this show can go from comedy to emotional within the blink of an eye. Janet and her Appa’s emotional moments always get me.
Bruh I really thought they would have accents
lol, do you know how long it would take to film if their accents were actually that heavy?

They should've had my parents be the actors lol or anyone from the parents church lol.
Appa accent is so much different

There will be?👍😃❤️...woot!
I am so looking forward to season 5. I want to see more of Janet and Raj.
This made my year
Sadly there will be no Season 6 :(
Tragic!!!
I love Mr Kim's accent, it reminds me of my first manager when I was 15, he was also Korean and talked exactly like that.
Kim’s Convenience is my favorite show

I just found this show 2 weeks ago and already into season 3. Light hearted comedy is what I need right now.
I’m so surprised that they express Korean culture and sentiments quite well even though they were born and grew up in Canada.
So proud of them🇰🇷
