15:09 This is the first time I've seen a Devil wears Prada reaction where the people recognize Gisele Bündchen. This makes me very happy! She makes us Brazilians very proud.
Exactly! He's the real villain! He's a f*cking cheff, he should be understanding about working the long hours. He's mad that Andy is growing and excelling at her demanding job, instead of supporting her he just whines and doesn't grow. He sucks.
I like to think the ending hinted verrrry subtly that Nate might be closer to on the outs than we thought. How? With the clothes Andy is wearing. No, she's not wearing designer clothes anymore, but she's not wearing her old clothes either. Because THAT'S the real impression the job left on her: finally understanding the importance in putting some effort into your appearance, even if it's only for yourself.
I've worked in fashion all my life, since early 90s. Not at the high level depicted here, but I definitely did have a very Miranda-esque boss at one point. Complete with the long, intimidating head to toe outfit appraisals. I honestly learned so much from that frightening woman. 25 yrs later, I still quote brilliant things she said. As well as having the best stories whenever the conversation turns to "horrible bosses from my past" 😂
Meryl was Oscar nominated for this role. She modeled Miranda's smooth, quiet yet commanding voice after Clint Eastwood, with whom she worked in The Bridges of Madison County.
I started to believe that Meryl Streep transforms. She's unbelievable as an actress. You see the character not her. Amazing! You gotta watch 'Doubt'... Where she plays a mother superior nun. Chills...
She is AMAZING in that, plus, Doubt is just an incredible movie overall. Her and Philip Seymour Hoffman? Come on! Speaking of Meryl's transformations; one that's slightly less known, but super incredible is that she plays an old Jewish MAN in the HBO adaptation of Angels in America!
Yes, everyone at Runway was mean to Andi in some way when she started and they should have given her more training, but watching back as an adult who has now held multiple jobs and a career, I think it’s kind of hilarious when we are like “omg her job is sooo hard and no one is telling her what to do!” Like it’s actually the exact opposite, she’s being told every step she needs to take and her main job responsibilities include taking notes, running errands, and answering the phone and messages… like I would be so pissed if I hired an assistant who couldn’t do those basic tasks within a week of working for me, so now I’m like wow they were so nice to keep her on when she was so incompetent for so long 😂, irl anyone else would have been fired for far less!
You forgot the fact she chose this job because she had the choice between this and working in an auto magazine, and the fact she knows anything about fashion.
Everyone's different. I've held multiple jobs and a career as well, but that rapid-fire nonsense with no time or patience to LET HER TAKE NOTES is just nonsense. Give her multiple demands all at once and expect to remember them without writing anything down, telling her what anything is (who's "Patricia"), etc, is just setting her up for failure. If you expect your assistants to keep up with the likes of Miranda and her ilk, then I am so glad I have never worked for you!
@@jaeladarlingtrailers lol I absolutely have been on and still am on that end, and most people have been! Like think about it, how often are you stopping to make sure the person you are relying all your information to got it all down?! How often are you explicitly mentioning who every person you encounter is (especially when they are well known in your industry)? Like really this just seems like basic work and I don’t know maybe because people talk to me like this everyday in customer service and not the kind you think (I’m an attorney) so I just can’t imagine it’s that hard to do what she was expected to do… like it was truly basic work haha
Stanley Tucci is such a fave. He’s funny, sexy and so intelligent. I listen to him when he travels the world for food. And he knows so many languages. Such a hottie.
One of the BEST movies ever!! Meryl was just a genius actress in this movie - never raising her voice, but getting the message across. I must say - It's hard to think you guys are mom and son - you are more like best friends. Love you guys!!!
Meryl Streep is so good in this. An inferior actress would have played Miranda Priestly as wielding her power loudly. She would have yelled, she would have shown a temper. But Meryl Streep chose to speak softly and use her eyes. By speaking so softly, she had everyone tiptoeing around her and her gaze could be downright glacial. The effect is quite chilling.
I'm here for 15 minutes and I already love the mom. Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil. and like the other Braziliam said below...yes, we love when people recognize Gisele.
Andy's friends and boyfriend absolutely suck, no one will ever convince me otherwise. Journalism is an incredibly tough industry to break into, and her assistant job was a temporary step up for her to reach her dream, maybe a year or two commitment tops. They should have understood this, and supported her instead of adding to her stress. For them to mess with her phone, or sulk/whine when she is forced to skip a birthday party (like they couldn't celebrate another time?) due to a work conflict, that is pure childishness on their parts. And in terms of her "changing" - that's what people do! They grow, evolve, find new things they enjoy, that's part of growing up. I hate that she reconciles with Nate in the end of this film, it basically ruins the ending for me. He expected her to uproot her life so he could be a perennial child, even though he put down her ambitions time and time again and repeatedly showed he couldn't be counted on? Ugh. Would've much preferred her moving on by herself a little wiser thanks to Miranda, with a new job, a new outlook on life, and only surrounding herself with people who truly care for and support her.
This!!! Love the movie, own it, but it really wimps out at the end. You’re right, it didn’t show real growth. She still learned valuable things from Miranda. I’d be lying if I said I’d have given away all the free Paris stuff…….gift a few to Emily, yes😜
her boyfriend is a chef and he doesn't understand long shifts, demanding bosses and having to skip personal affairs for work?? Like, c'mon, anyone who has worked in hospitality knows and understand how hard is to match up schedules with SO and friends! like that for me feels that he was envy, he didn't want her to success. knowing she have to "sacrifice and suck it up for one year", any sensible SO and friend would be cheering up on her.
In 1988 Meryl Streep was in a movie called "A Cry In The Dark". It's about a mother whose child was killed in a dingo attack in the Australian Outback who fights to prove her innocence when she is accused of murder. THIS IS A TRUE STORY. You'll hear Meryl with an Australian accent in this one. You should check it out.
I know its a movie blah blah blah, but the house scene where Andy dropped the magazine off at Miranda's house still terriefies me. She didn't even say a word to her, but it was still scary.
This is a great movie about someone growing up and leaving old people and ideas behind. Andrea's boyfriend was fine with her waiting for and following him, but flipped the script once she became wrapped up on her job. She grew up and realized that what she thought she wanted wasn't actually good for her.
If you want to go further, you can watch the documentary The September Issue, a behind the scenes look at Vogue and the editor in chief that this movie was inspired, Anna Wintour. There are so some parallels with the movie.
A possible Meryl Streep underrated gem that you might not know…out of Africa with Robert Redford. One of my favorites, they are both amazing & the cinematography is amazing. This one is pure fun.
I have seen so many interviews with the actors in this movie and this was a fun but incredibly intense experience. It's so hilarious to talk about Anne Hathaway as "that fat ugly girl" What??
The pursing of the lips is WHY she moved up the preview! She KNEW it was going to be a catastrophe. We see her looking right at it in the sketch book right when Andy walks in.
Change in a good direction is not a negative thing, too much change and it can become negative. This film reminds me, EVERYtime I see it to stop and make sure that the people who are around me are the SUPPORTIVE people I love. This film was perfect.
All Andy had to do to get Miranda back to New York was get her in a car and have it drive north until she could then find a different airport which was still open. Also, if she needs handouts from her father in order to pay the rent why is she giving away thousands of dollars worth of free stuff instead of selling them?
FYi Rob Marshall, director for yhe films Into the Woods and Mary Poppins considers Emily Blunt to be the Meryl Streep of her generation (and Streep apparently agrees). Prada was the film that brought her to prominence in the US. It led to character parts, which was her goal. She's a shape-shifter at heart, and also good with accents like Streep (see Looper and Oppenheimer,).
The part was offered to Glenn Close but she turned it down due to she fought the character was similar to Cruella DeVille she had played in 101 Dalmatians (1996) so the part ended up going to Meryl Streep
There were other women who were considered for Miranda such as Michelle Pfeiffer, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Kate Hudson, and Kirsten Dunst.
If you want to watch the real life inspiration for Miranda watch Anna Wintour in "The September Issue" documentary film about US Vogue Magazine. The book was written by an ex assistant of hers.
Very fun reaction to this fun film. A great cast, all at the top of their games. For some other ESSENTIAL Meryl Streep movies, check out A Cry In the Dark, Silkwood and Death Becomes Her. All terrific films and each one is a revelation in terms of Streep’s performances.
This was a movie I had no interest in seeing when I was in college and I am so glad my friend talked me into it. Having not read the book I am not sure how accurate it is but since my mother worked in a clothing store during the 80s I can say this is how it was and probably still is. Her boss was like Miranda when she walked the floor everyone shut up and acted professional and looked busy. Employees had to be up on the latest trends and everything. Sometimes I had to spend my days there so I got to know her co-workers and I hung out in their small toys and Electronics department playing Nintendo. To this day I was the only one who could make her boss laugh and be happy. Such a good film.
Yes! August Osage County is soooo good. So are Doubt and The Bridges of Madison County. Please consider reacting to these. Love your guys' reactions by the way 😁.
So, two things: 1. You mention (or hint at) Princess Diaries, do you have a reaction to that? 2. There's a video on youtube of Anne Hathaway going back and watching scenes from some of her movies and commenting on them. Well worth a look.
Hi guys 😊 Well, I should say I did enjoy your reaction to this movie but: I assume you are slightly on the wrong side of the gate here. The thing is, Andrea went for this job and decided to plunge a little bit deeper so as to learn from the inside. Her friends and that scumbag BF? They showed their real little faces in that restaurant scene 'throwing her mobile onto each other', as for that infant boyfriend - he sees her growth and doesn't want her to do well and neither do her phony friends. Miranda? She gave her a sink or swim opportunity, though. Andrea CHOSE to swim 🏊
I actually think the boyfriend is the villain. When ur trying to make it to the top sacrifices are made including holidays and birthdays sorry. Support means understanding that sometimes you don't always come first anymore. The ultimate test of any relationship.
She’s responsible for her choices, but her boyfriend and friends were jerks though. They could have been supportive, it was only for a year. Her boyfriend was a chef, they work crazy hours. He wants her to follow him for his new job? Love the movie, seen it many times, own it, but that part annoys me.
Yay, one of the movies I re-watch at least once a year. Really campy and quote-able :D P.S. as usual, Nick is so cute & charming, would love to have Jen as a mother-in-law in some parallel universe.
The boyfriend is not an eight year old. He's a grown ass man and puts on this surly pout pageant because she had work related duties that caused her to miss his little birthday bash at age, what, 27? He should have been understanding and supportive instead of a spoiled crybaby.
I look at Andy's relationship with her boyfriend and friends much differently that the reactors. Manhattan is a very expensive city to live in and a hard place to make it in any business. Her boyfriend should be more supportive and understanding. That and her friends were more than happy to take the expensive free gifts from Andy but unwilling to realize the lengths Andy goes to to get the perks. Maybe it's just me because I know NYC and how hard it can be to be someone.
Longtime fan, really love your genuine reactions. You should check out Burlesque!!!! It's Christina Aguilera, Cher, and Stanley Tucci. It's a nice companion movie to this one. It's a musical, very entertaining.
I have watched a few reaction to this movie and saw lots of reactors and comments being mad at the boyfriend for not being supportive of Andy's career, but I kinda understand him though. Andy did change, at least her schedule changed and she barely have time for him even on his important day. He was supportive until it went beyond what he can take. I'm glad that finally Andy chose to adjust her life and was able to find the job she want though. And I never caught the smile thing! Thank you for that!
I’m pretty sure mom was a model in the 90s! So so gorgeous! That’s why she has such a good looking son! If I wasn’t a 50 yr old girl I would be after him! Not being creepy, just think you are both so good looking!❤
If you have not seen The Hours, with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Ed Harris and many other great actors, you absolutely should consider watching it. Great performances, especially from Meryl Streep, in my opinion. I love your reactions! :)
Great reaction. My take on the ending and her boyfriend is he's a complete jerk for no support for her career. The ending part where she says she's wrong and he's right.....ah NO.
Probably the only reaction to this movie I’ve seen, where the reviewers actually sympathize with Andy’s boyfriend. And I agree, Andy was pretty awful to him after a while. She didn’t mean to be, but she allowed Miranda to get in her head.
He wasn't great himself. She told him she wouldn't be working at the magazine forever. As a chef he would have worked long hours himself so should have been more supportive.
@@pobstrel as a boyfriend, he was a selfish jerk. I hate that the ending had her basically groveling to him, and probably following him to his new job.
People see what they want to see I guess. She was being selfish a lot too. And didn’t hesitate to jump another man’s bones, as soon as she needed a break.
There is a movie that has the same dynamic and I've been begging reactors to watch it. It's called "Swimming With Sharks" the movie stars Kevin Spacey as a demanding self absorbed movie producer.
I know it is a movie, but in NYC you are working towards something. The boyfriend was so wrong it was for one year, geez, don't we make a sacrifice for people we love...this was a temporary thing.
Sorry, but the boyfriend and her friends were jerks. Why couldn't the boyfriend be happy she was going to Paris? This is her CAREER and he was selfish and unsupportive. He was a villain in this.

Also he is supposed to be a chef and they are used to working long hours .
Nate: the true villain of The Devil Wears Prada. He suuuuuuuucks.
Exactly! He's the real villain!
He's a f*cking cheff, he should be understanding about working the long hours.
He's mad that Andy is growing and excelling at her demanding job, instead of supporting her he just whines and doesn't grow. He sucks.
At the MET GALA, no less!
The character Miranda Priestly was modeled after Vogue Magazine’s editor Anna Wintour, who is known to be just that way in real life.😊
I like to think the ending hinted verrrry subtly that Nate might be closer to on the outs than we thought.
How? With the clothes Andy is wearing. No, she's not wearing designer clothes anymore, but she's not wearing her old clothes either.

Thank you! 😊❤
If you have not seen The Hours, with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Ed Harris and many other great actors, you absolutely should consider watching it. Great performances, especially from Meryl Streep, in my opinion. I love your reactions! :)
I second this. The Hours is a must watch
Adding it to the list, thanks! 😊
This was before Oregon Blue was discovered.
Check her out 1989 Meryl Streep in “She-Devil”
It’s based on a book and tv show that I adored.
Great reaction. My take on the ending and her boyfriend is he's a complete jerk for no support for her career. The ending part where she says she's wrong and he's right.....ah NO.
Nice reaction guys! IDK if you know about or have seen Emily Blunt in an Amazon Prime series titled "The English". I'm sure you'd love it!
Thanks, adding it to the list! 😊
I was lookin forward to this movie reaction🙌
19:10 Blimpie is a sub sandwich franchise.
@@pobstrel Yup, couldn't dish out the same support that Andy was probably giving him for years. A selfish, whining man-baby.
@@jaymanuel3396he basically stalked her but it’s her fault. 🤦♀️
Great reaction again 😊❤️❤️
❤
Yesss been waiting for this ❗️❤️
❤
I loathed her boyfriend and “friends”. They behaved in a very immature fashion.
Sorry, but the boyfriend and her friends were jerks.
Why couldn't the boyfriend be happy she was going to Paris? This is her CAREER and he was selfish and unsupportive.
He was a villain in this.
Hear hear cute but selfish. Only a year.
Did you fall down and hit your head on the pavement?
