@@strain42 Haha! I'm literally working on the prologue, although I'll publish it in Spanish. In any case, I'm waiting for a few illustrations so it won't take me less than a year to finish it completely.
Hey! I'm an indie game dev and I'm currently working on a megaten-inspired indie game, Chronicles Meteorfall. The game is still in early alpha and isn't even playable yet, but I'm working on it and I can't wait for it to publicly release. The game is primarily inspired by Digital Devil Saga, but also Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. The game will use press turn, a job class and skill building/equip system, Devil Survivor's NG+ system, over 70 sidequests, character-focused EX Quests, a massive interconnected open world, a TON of optional areas and quests as well as secrets, and legitimate, non-forced LGBT+ representation. Check it out when it releases sometime next year.
9:09 LR second nexus is still happening eventually, probably(? but right now Keinart is currently focused on the remake of his first novel One Thousand Lies, he's almost done with the writing of it, I think he'll start working on second nexus after he releases OTL remake
@@strain42 it *is* terrifying! And awesome! But for what appears to have inspired this game: the characters having an overarching theme in their designs, the UI and Quinn being very similar to a character from that series. The only man doing harem things was also a part of the first game (and *only* the first game, as the second game stars a lesbian couple and the third splits the party).
I've had Affogato sitting on my wishlist since it came out and I've just never bothered picking it up because while the combination of elements seems neat, each individual element seems to be kind of weak from the reviews I've seen and it seems kind of rough around the edges.
Huh I played Lotus Reverie and never guessed it was based on Devil Survivor. Interested to see what exactly was based on it, cos from my playthrough idk what I'd even say except... Move around places in a menu? And.. befriend characters? It's not a bad game its just wow, doesn't show it's inspirations very much.
The soul system in Dark Blood Chronicles sounds like a system I'd want to do in an RPG where each party member can equipt 1 and later 2 souls that give then elemental attributes and some access unqiue skills to the souls. Being able to level up affinity with the souls to unlock abilities for the saod party Member. Also the "Its not ___, it's Magenta" feels like it might be a Kamen Rider Decade refence.
'First Game' "Visual Novel whose only gameplay sucks." So that's a no from me. Admittedly this is due to my heavy bias against most Visual Novels, but what you described sounds bad. 'Second Game' Wait a fucking second, I remember this one, I think this was on Steam Greenlight. This came out? This needs to be on consoles. ....... We need more Horror Themed RPGs. This isn't really related to the video or games here, but Strain you should try Porterminus. 'Third Game' Looks good, but this ain't really for me as I don't care for 1st Person in Turn Based RPGs. But the game seems solid enough, it really is just personal preference in this case. 'Fourth Game' Da Zog? Uh....... Just gonna say this ain't for me and move on. 'Final Game' Oh I saw this, it looked good.
Fair points! Obviously not every game I talk about in these videos is gonna be for everyone, but that’s kinda the fun. Seeing what sticks out and what feels unique and interesting while still making sense to have that MegaTen inspiration
Huh I actually played/finished Dark Blood Chronicles. I wrote a clumsy review about it on steam too and did recommend it, but it felt unfinished or rushed at parts. I still liked it though because there needs to be more rpgs with a look and setting like that. Checkpoint Exodus seems neat. I'd lean towards Quinn initially just on first impression. I may have to look more into that.
Dark Blood is a game I did like, but yeah, would definitely benefit from some general improvements in the sequel that doesn't ever seem to be happening.
There are a few out there. You've got stuff like Shin Megami Tensei VX, which is a fan remake of SMT1 with extra content and endings or just much simpler things like a Strange Journey DOOM mod. Admittedly not as many as I'd like, but I try to keep my eyes open for them when I can.
Not that I'm aware of. Lotus Reverie, Dark Blood, and Culina probably would have by now if they were going to. Exodus Checkmate would probably need some more script work and console releases before we talk about a physical copy. Affogato is the only one I could maybe see getting one, but again, it'd probably need to come to consoles before a physical release is on the table.
@@strain42 rip o well there vary few shin megami like rpgs on the switch that's what I collect for mostly the only one I can think of is lost child and it's digital version was delisted. I wish the Demonschool one gets a physical 🤞
They do take a lot of work and dedication, but the thing I always try to highlight from these videos is that I have a lot of respect and interest for games inspired by MegaTen that AREN'T RPGs as well.
Been lurking on your channel for a while honestly and hoping some day I'd be in one of your videos, and it was a genuine shock when I saw you follow me on twitter lol Just wanted to share my appreciation and I feel like this is the least embarrassing way of expressing it. ^^'
Hey. Appreciate you dropping by. Yeah, I found your game a few days ago on Twitter and I'm always looking for new and unique projects to add to my spreadsheet for future entries in this series!
Exodus Checkmate dev here. Thank you for mentioning the game! Also, great pool of reccomendations, all of them looks really interesting!
Glad you liked it!
The game looks amazing! Thanks for your hard work. Is Exodus Checkmate on consoles or planning to release on them?
@@devin8367 Hey there! I'm sorry but there are no plans to release it on consoles for the time.
I bought the first game and own the last game in this list already. Wow...what a video. Thanks for the new stuff. I mark all of them down.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’ve got far more games to talk about in the future!
@@strain42 I hope you all about the Touhou SMT fangame.
@@KazeShikamaru That was the first game I covered in the first video in this series lol

Exodus looks really good, great to see more indie games from Brazil getting the spotlight!
Yeah, it's awesome!
Great to see a part 2 and that Exodus Checkmate is included as well! 😀

Exodus Checkmate seems like a must play

Ain’t no way, I bought lotus reverie on discount several weeks ago in switch without even knowing it was inspired by Desu and Persona
And now you know! *GI Joe theme plays*
Mary Skelter as an inspiration certainly peaks my interest, the three main games might be some of my favourite dungeon crawlers
Admittedly the only thing I know about it is that certain enemies can chase you in real time, which sounds terrifying for a dungeon crawler! XD
