    I'm currently working on the wording and layout for my 5x7 black invitations while trying to decide on the right cardstock paper and gold letterpress or gold foil. Thanks for helping me decide... I'm definitely going with the gold foil (just love how it pops). Now I just need to figure out the paper and find a local print shop that doesn't cost an arm & leg to print for me, lol. Oh, I'm also using a gold wax seal for my black and gold trim envelopes.

      Most printers I know enjoy Classic Crest for foil projects, especially when the paper needs to be black. That's what Jessica's cards were printed on.

      I have used gold metallic ink in the past for many years with letterpress on coated stock very successfully but frequently used a yellowish base on uncoated stock this makes a huge difference. Also tried offset but the result was very bland.

    • @afinepress

    Rather than using copper for your hot foil work (I only use copper for really delicate work and embossing ) have you tried magnesium printing plates?

    • @afinepress
      @afinepress  4 роки тому

      I've never liked mag. The consistency of heat distribution and likeliness to pit makes it less than ideal. At that point, the workflow of consistently using copper outweighs the minimal savings.

      @TheQuillPress 4 роки тому

    I have no doubt that foil pops better than ink, but if you had done a double-hit with metallic gold ink, it would have done a lot better. I've found that colored inks show better if they're printed over a metallic silver (same image). Black is a very interesting substrate.....

    • @afinepress
      @afinepress  4 роки тому

      at 4:45, you can see one and two hits of gold. I realize now I edited the explanation out. a double hit was still deeply lackluster.
