  • This video shows you how to get nearly unlimited battery life for your DSLR for only $100. The one downside of shooting video with a DSLR is short battery life -- and this completely solves that problem.
    ✅ This video is not sponsored by Canon, the makers of the power bank, or anyone else
    ✅ Total cost to me for this build was $100 ($60 for the battery, $20 for the dummy battery, $10 for the slider, and $10 for the base plate)

    It works with the photography mode? It holds up today?

    Hi, where can I get the strap to hold the battery? Thanks!

      Mine is actually taped in place with some gaffers tape. I use gaffers tape because it doesn't leave a sticky residue ... and lasts for years.

    Are 9v safe? What I know is that the Canon batteries go from 8.4v to 7.2v depending on how much charge is left. I haven't found anything regarding long term effects.

      I've used mine to record hours and hours of video with no noticeable problem... so it seems okay to me

    Let me ask you. When I look at the bottom of my rebel t71 it says 8v and this battery gives out 9-12. Would this NOT damage the camera?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  6 років тому +1

      I have the T5i, so can't tell you about the T7i. What you're looking to do, in the most basic sense, is to find a large battery with the same output as the small batteries that you use. Good luck!

      @@metaspencer Also on the bottom of your t5i does it say it uses 9v or 8v ?

      Mine reads “DC 7.4” ... I’ve used this setup for years now

    I had no idea that these power banks were available with a 9v output. I will be getting one soon.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  8 років тому

      Yeah, it's pretty cool! I've found that most power banks don't have ports that can connect to the camera, but the one I've linked to works great ... and boy does it last a long time!

    I've got a 60D and I'd love to do this, but I'm concerned about the voltage difference. The factory batteries are 7.2V and I've seen people run the camera easily off 8V...Heck, I rolled my own 4x18650 (in series/parallel) for 7.2-7.4V) and ran the camera fine off that, but 9V makes me a bit leery. Are there any numbers out there for what's acceptable to the camera? Thanks!

    couldn't you also use a 5v with a voltage convert adapter

    • @metaspencer

      interesting. I didn't know that was possible

    • @PeeHooo
      @PeeHooo 8 років тому

      Wouldn't be as neat solution as this. And that would also add unnecessary DC to DC conversion. This way it is more energy efficient. But yes it is possible.

      Usb 5v to 9v convertor pretty common now a bout $10 and 95% efficient

      You'll need a different dummy battery. This looks like it's one that will fit Nikons: amzn.to/2jAitkL

    Another idea is to use a smartphone tripod mount (the one that looks like a clamp), to hold the battery under the camera with a 1/4 inch male to male screw and use it as a portable setup!

      great idea for holding the battery -- I hadn't thought of that. However you mount the battery is great, as the life of the large battery is just so much longer

    • @metaspencer

      is there a way to use these items (the screw adapter and the clamp) and to have the camera mounted on a tripod?

    • @YagoFernades

      You could use a clamp to attach it to the tripod center column.
