My father did this work for all 25 years of his life after going into the mine at The age of 15. I was 5 when he died of black lung disease. However I remember the night his lungs burst forth with blood and he choked to death on his own blood while loading coal from the coal bin to our furnace , one very cold December night. I for one curse the mining of coal from the bowels of the earth.
My Grandfather and my Father both worked the Anthracite mines near Centraila Pa.
Those shot near the end looked like the great culm bank at Shamokin, PA at the Cameron Breaker.
