  • @rederickfroders1978
    @rederickfroders1978 2 роки тому +8

    Id say its a brilliant "starter" ship. You can make good money with it which makes it a great jump off point.
    Alot of people are buying larger and more expensive ships with LTI, but this kind of affects the progress you can make in the game when released.
    I dont think there is much to look out for if you have the biggest and baddest ship right at launch.
    I decided I want to do multicrew right at the start, and I dont want to have to bother with the basic single seater ships.
    I think the Freelancer is ideal for this, its a good ship to fall back on whenever your bigger ships get blown to pieces. There will be more risk to losing a bigger ship because it doesnt have LTI, but I'll be okay knowing I have a Freelancer to fall back on instead of a damn Aurora.
    I have the DUR variant simply because its the most versatile.

    • @ViciDeum

      I agree, the Freelancer really does make a great upgrade from any of the base starters, and offers good multi-roll potential to scale with it as well! And while I think some players will focus on their reputation/missions in game, I completely see the value in earning ships at launch as well!

    Thank you for this review. I bought the original Freelancer (and an Aurora LX) in the earliest days of SC but I only really started playing this week.
    So I am trying to figure out whether to keep or upgrade them. Your video cinched it, I am keeping it. I don't even see it worth it to upgrade it to a Max. The only minor negatives I found so far are: (1) The cost of the weapon upgrades are a bit brutal for a beginner (even if they are not a big deal for an experienced player after a refresh). (2) The extremely tight fit of the ROC, (3) The window visibility, although using 3rd person view helps.
    The Aurora though, I am still leaning towards an upgrade. I just don't know to what, probably a single seater, nimble, small, a ramp to the cargo area, enough range for local missions, and maybe (not sure if needed) a bed to save and exit if I have to stop playing in a rush. Will probably experiment during the upcoming invictus event.

      @@ViciDeum I settled on a C8R Pisces for my Aurora LTI upgrade. And long term I will likely always buy a Mustang Alpha with aUEC for most of the early bounties, it is cheap as dirt and capable (Gladius might replace it if there is enough time between wipes and I get good enough at bounties to justify it). I drove a Cutlass Black and I definitely love it but that is way down in the future. Having fun.

    …wait my beds are escape pods? Genius MISC.
    Love this ship, not cos anything magical or best of this or not but because: it is good enough. This is exact kind of ship in reality that would do well for that reason alone. She can tangled with any ship same size or smaller, cargo, fit friends and provides more than basic amenities. Love it and it’s all I’d ever want for personal ship if I were a space mans. And the cockpit view? Meh, could be better but it is what it is and hardly has impact my actual combat moments, if anything coming off a stalker(yes bought by mistake, well upgraded to really) its almost better for combat cos way tougher and WAY more stable firing forward. Oh and body design? I mean…Serenity wasn’t exactly “pretty” either ;)

    I use a Freelancer a lot. Wouldn't choose to do bounty missions in it (lack of manoeuvrability), but, suppose it can be done.
    That cargo hold can take two ROCs - it is a tight fit, but they go.
    It is also big enough to take two good, or three moderate Prospector hauls (after refining), so a good cargo hauler for miners.

    For $10 over the Cutty, the Freelancer has a lot more cargo space and durability, and a toilet! I do prefer Drake's ship designs over MISC, so I don't have any MISC ships, but for practicality and small Jump Point transit, the Freelancer makes a strong case for anyone who prefers the MISC design aesthetic.

    If they make that rear turret a remote turret then its perfect (flaws and all). But that rear turret has to be remote so u can get vehicles into the ship, as it is now they have disabled collisions to make the cargo work.
    It would look slightly better with a smaller turret rear too so a remote turret makes sense,

    • @ViciDeum
      @ViciDeum  2 роки тому

      Reworking that rear turret into a remote would make a lot of sense, especially with all the bridge stations to use for it! I suspect it’ll get a rework to address this, along with improving the firing arcs!

      The rear turret is also poorly positioned. It can shoot behind the ship like nobodys business, but it can't shoot forward much over the canopy. When the pilot is firing on something, it's usually hidden from the rear gunner. That, and the narrow cargo space that interferes with loading vehicles, are some of the disadvantages of this one. Big gimbaled guns and dual shield generators are great, but I'm really torn and thinking of melting mine down and getting a Cutlass Black.

    freelancer slightly worse than cutlass black. if your freelancer is a freelancer MIS. you are sorted as a bounty hunter, its armament tears through most things. only downside really is its agility, which in my opinion puts the cutty black ahead of it, dont really compare their SCU's since if you chose either for cargo hauling you are either RP'ing or are a pacifist.. either way killing ai is easier and way more risk free. you could die, sure. but you'll be cloned. better than dying or slamming into the side of a moon with your entire bank balance in the cargo hold

To start, the Freelancer has 4 escape pods which dramatically increase your survivability once ships get more permanent “downed,” rather than destroyed states, and death of a spaceman will be far more consequential with rep and status loss.
