I was there that night . Soaked through after walking half way up the east india dock road , Trevor , Billy and all the players played there hearts out . One my best nights at Upton Park . European nights under the floodlights , Moore than a just a club . A way of life

The great times of football,...No way to hit the final with that blind ref and the Goali ...poor Dr. and the lights. Made kind of a games-friendship with an older couple (they must have been 25 years old or so), veryfriendly West Ham supporters, who visited the Frankfurt game, changed scarfs and with my limited school English, was great to have them over in the first game. Hope this time same experience. Hope for both supporters for 2 stunning performances...Still the most liked team in Frankfurt,..Tottenham showed up some years later,....uuhhh.

I was there too, never experienced a night like it, the best night of my life..Remember the rain as well 41,000 in the ground that could only hold 39,000..Rushed home to watch the highlights with the great Brian Moore, who was jumping out of his seat when Sir Trev scored the third..Wonder full night, shame we couldn't go all the way and win it, but we lost to a great team.

Yep...I was there to...again right behind the robson goal which was incredible....when you see the passion
that this game was played and the mud, hardly any grass, players still within touching distance both physically and in the amount they were earning, it makes me weep for the crap that this and the last generation have to put up with.
Football was then at its total best in every way.

I was at this fabulous game. Trevor Brooking was as great a player as this country has ever seen. He would have made the Brazilian team if he was from that country. And I never understood why people were so surprised that he headed The FA Cup winning goal against Arsenal in 1980. I remembered this one. Great days indeed.

A real midweek European night game reminds me of spurs v hadjuk split in 84 and the real shame is there will never be nights like this again

I was there, in the Chicken run. Got there really early to get a good place. I had been supporting West Ham since 1964 and this was the best night of all the great matches I'd seen. It was a close game and until West Ham scored the second goal it was a close run game. The crowd were magnificent that night pushing the team on through the poor conditions. Trevor Brooking was our man once again, what a player he was.

Trevor was inspirational that night. What a night, the best ever at Upton Park.. The daily Mirror wrote "at 7.20 the West Ham team ran out onto a sea of mud to a torrent of East End cheers" I plagiarised that line in a school essay some weeks later and won a prize for the essay. I am 50 this year and that night features heavily in my half century recap! Trevor and Billy were Gods.

Thanks for sharing the video. I was at the game as well as a 13 year old exchange student spending the Easter Holidays in England. I remember the rain, the great atmosphere and the kid next to me sharing his wooden box with me so that we could look over the people in front of us. Great memories.

I was wearing a trenchcoat (aged 15 - they were all the rage then) and was in the southbank as I always was. There wasn't a button left on that coat as the squeeze was so tight. As hombre says there were 42K there even though the records will show 38K - the turnstile men were always bent! The fans stayed for half an hour after the game and the announcement (from Bill Remphry - remember him?) was to go home!! We've never been appreciated as fans have we!!?

Trevor pulls those headers out of the bag only on special occasions, god bless him.

I can only echo what people have said here. I was in the southbank and it was a truely fantastic atmosphere. I was 15 and soaked through and can remember the steam rising as a rare gap opened in the crowd. Had the long trek home to Welling afterwards through the woolwich tunnel but always worth it to see Trev at his best. Was that really 35 years ago!

Definitely one of greatest games I've seen at Upton Park. I was 13 and particularly remember Keith Robson's curler right in to the top corner. I was stood right behind in the West Stand and cameras don't do justice to quality of finish.

I was there on that night what a game, I was 16 then, now 52 will never forget that game, brilliant, still a massive WH fan. Great to see that again.
