So cool watching this little piece of history go down, Andrew creating a master piece, for the legend Adam Savage! What an awesome collaboration to have such an amazing bench for working on. I love the simplicity of the function derived from the complexity of the build. When something is so well thought through it is a true joy to behold.

It’s a mag-lock, so you can turn the magnet on or off and use it to attach stuff to the bench. It’s pretty cool, it works by aligning or un-aligning the poles of two neodymium magnets.

MATT CREMONA!!! What a wasted opportunity to plug a “friend’s” channel/business/craftsmanship! For those of you who don’t know, Matt Cremona is the magician behind the monolithic slabs, as they’re referred to in the video. If you want to know anything from traditional fine woodworking skills right down to the science of the materials (i.e. lumber) used, then Matt Cremona is a great channel to check out.

Everyone: Y NO SHOUTOUT TO MATT CREMONA
Come on guys, it’s a casual friendly zoom call conversation. Just because it’s between high profile individuals doesn’t mean you should take every opportunity to sound like you’re trying to sell or promote something/someone. This was a casual conversation between two guys discussing on a workbench one made and the other is happy to receive, that so happens to get uploaded on a prominent channel. Do you like talking to someone who keeps talking about where he got his shoes or who made his shirt every 5 minutes? I’m sure Andrew would have given Matt a shoutout if he knew Adam better personally but this is their first time talking to each other live and it’s as clean as it gets without any script. Giving a shoutout to someone else on the channel of a person you’re literally talking to for the first time unscripted and perhaps wasn’t even expecting this video to be uploaded then is just too weird and frankly rude. I can see many of those who complained about this are mainly woodworking fans who are already familiar with this craft and obviously who the prominent players are but keep in mind this channel is not a woodworking-focused channel so don’t expect to have the same interaction and experience as you would from your usual channel.

I was concerned when I saw how precise the vises looked, since I'd recently watched a Rex Krueger video on how a perfectly parallel vise can make it difficult to hold certain objects (so obviously I'm an expert now)...and then 6:49.

I'm so glad that this video exists: I'd noticed the gearing of the vises in a more recent video and wondered why the comments weren't full of "OMG! What is up with that workbench?" and this is why. Wow, what a work of art.
