If you want to see more of his supreme talent, check out his role as Don "No Soul" Simmons in a crazy funny movie called "Amazon Women From the Moon." You will see a lot of familiar faces. The opening sketch with Aresenio Hall will have you rolling.
I love it . The Ahhhhhhaaaa. In living color was so genuinely funny. My son and I used to watch it every evening and we would be laughing so hard our stomachs would hurt. Every skit that they did was hysterical. Anton jackson Calhoun Tubbs, Oswald Bates and The list goes on and on. That was one of the best shows ever . No laugh tracks.
Man this was such a good show, too bad it's off the air...I can write a song about it: Man this was such a good show, too bad it's off the air AHHHHH!! HAAAA AHHHHHH!!!!
My boyfriend was black and this was one of our inside jokes. We were together over 33 years. He passed from a stroke a few years ago. I would like to say I wrote a song about it. But my singing is a big enough joke as it is. RIP Otis.
I saw this on the night it originally aired. And I just so happened to be watching it with my best friend whom I write songs with, and as songwriters ourselves we were LITERALLY on the floor--not just a figure of speech--we were on our knees crying, we were laughing so hard. ... This shit brings back MEMORIES! AHHhahhh. Thank you very much.
75 years in the show bizness, and I'm still tryin ta make it....Aaaahaaaa!!!! Thank you very much! I remember when this skit first aired. My father-in-law(a Mississippi native and huge fan of Delta and Chicago style Blues) used go to his den after watching the show, he'd be playing his guitar and trying to mimic Calhoun. Me and my wife would be listening in and cracking up!!!! Love it...
Me, too! Lol Didn't matter where we were either. Sitting in class at school, McDonald's, anywhere at all....I wrote a song about. Like to hear it, here it go! 😂 Damn, I miss this show!
I Absolutely and Definitely Miss The Show In Living Color. David Alan Grier is a true comedian and it's sad because he never got the recognition of respect he deserves
Wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? Here it goes... I don't listen to the Blues, but when I do, it's Calhoun Tubbs. Aiiiiieeeeeahhhhh! Thank you very much!
Out of all the characters on In Living Color, Calhoun Tubbs is my favorite by miles, and there are a lot of good characters on the show. This is still hilarious years later, thanks for the video.
A real person, Shakey Jake (Jake Woods) was the inspiration for Calhoun Tubbs. Grew up seeing him around the U-M campus in Ann Arbor all the time. He was there my whole childhood. He was adopted by our community as a truly interesting character, and a little mysterious. David Allen Grier REALLY captures him well, especially his voice. RIP Shakey Jake!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakey_Jake
It's clear where Martin got his ideas from while bringing the Martin Lawrence show into fruition. Dragon Fly Jones aka Sweet Tooth Jones, Elroy Presley aka Calhoun Tubbs, Shananah-aka Wanda....LOL. I was too young to truly remember this show. But random video's brought me back to In Living Color. #epic
I don't know about the rest of your facts but Martin's Sheneneh was before Jamie Foxx's wanda ever came along. - You've got it backwards, - believe it. Jamie Fox is a moron compared to anyone, - let alone Martin Lawrence.
Tina Tally Sorry for my tone. Jamie Foxx is a sore spot with me. He was just a favor that Keenen Wayans did for his brother Damon for his spot on ILC. - But he acts as if he earned it.
I'm in here 2020. Wrote a song bout it, here it go: 🎶 first we got hit with covid 🎶 now were dealing with nationwide riots 🎶 ahhhhhh haaaaa ahhh. Thank you very much
I really miss that feeling of In Living Colour being on on Sunday nights in high school. It was like that cap of the weekend...when the credits rolled you knew it was almost bed time and school the next day. Monday we were cracking up about the episode
As a songwriter myself, when I saw him perform this skit live, back in the day, and I had said those same exact words --" I wrote a song about it; like to hear it; here it goes."-- by the time he got around to the third or fourth song--and they all sounded just alike, and they all ended with that same "Ahhahhahh..." This s*it had me laughing so hard that I REALLY was rolling on the floor: Crying; with a stomach ache; about to piss my pants. Too funny Thanx for the great post.
Calhoun was ahead of his time. Wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? Here it goes. 🎶🎵Calhoun was a genius, he practically predicted TikToOok uhhh-huGhGhHh 🎵 🎶
Brilliant presentation by DAG. It gets funnier every time he says, "Wrote a song about it, like to hear it here it go." How many times did he do this sketch? I want to see all of them again.
He's smart enough to know he'll get more royalties per play with 12000 songs @ 13 seconds than 2400 songs @ 3 minutes. Just needs a channel on sirius xm
This character was based off of a real blues musician named "Shakin' Jake Woods" who was from Ann Arbor, MI. Jake had really short songs and would tell stories and jokes in the middle of the songs and afterwards. I have Jake's only CD called "On The Move" and it is a bizarre trip.
It just kills me when he goes "aaaahaaaaa" at the end of every song. Man, I really miss In Living Color!
Erin Tapp It kills me when Calhoun goes,"THANK YOU VERY MUCH!"
I know, he always thinks he gave such an epic performance, lol.
+Erin Tapp yes, that was serious comedy. "Homey, the clown", "Funky Finger Productions". "Homeboy Shopping Netowrk". Hilarious.
+Erin Tapp You gotta love that new orleans spin he puts on every song.
keenan obviously had eye for comedy and stars..launched careers of jim carrey, oscar winner jamie foxx, jlo..miss the show.
David Alan Grier doesn't get props for his talent. He's so incredibly funny.
If you want to see more of his supreme talent, check out his role as Don "No Soul" Simmons in a crazy funny movie called "Amazon Women From the Moon." You will see a lot of familiar faces. The opening sketch with Aresenio Hall will have you rolling.
Indeed. I was too young to realize how much talent it took to do this skit.
@@b.o.1951 well put. Still was funny back then, better now by far! Nostalgic, hilarious, still holds up nor could you make it today!
