Putting Derek on camera was a great decision I love to see this guys progression
I'm glad a lot of comments point out that watching Derek face some fears, have uncertainty and getting pushed to do something. it really resonates with the audience.

You got this Derek. I still have the same exact issue with my kickflips that you do man. My backfoot is always kicking out too much.
You know why the videos where Derek makes an appearance are the best, Dudes just so humble and genuinely stoked on his progression brings back the best part of skating for me that stoke when you finally progress.
I like the mindset lessons. A trick isn't as scary after you try it or after you fall from it as it is when you're thinking about it before trying, and just focus on the ollie required to make it over the obstacle instead of thinking about the obstacle itself. I'm a casual skater, so I've only been able to ollie over a 2x4 laying down for one day. I should try ollieing over a broomstick like Derek since it's a great transition and I can already ollie over a fire lane paint line. I already have a push broom that I could use that's for cleaning a parking lot before skating in it.
Makes me feel a better watching someone struggle with the ollie makes me feel like im not the only one. Watching all the braille team do all these crazy tricks and they make it look so easy. Thank you Derek.
So great seeing Derek's progression, I'm 31 and haven't skated properly since I was 17/18 but you guys inspired me to get back on it, thanks fam, much love.

Same here. I pop a decent ollie while rolling. But getting over an obstacle is hard. You have to get the timing right, and the obstacle plays tricks on your brain. You somehow easily forget to pop or scrape your front foot towards the nose of the board.
So, I can Ollie over very small stuff, but fail to go over something that I normally should pass easily.

Derek.. bro one tip I could give, that I dont think anyone has suggested, that really helped me personally with kickflips, is that JUMPING is key... I used to kinda do the same thing and could flick it well and land my front foot on it.. bro you just gotta legit jump. and its yours 💯
derek practice lifting her back leg idk what’s up with no one telling you that they always mention front foot this front foot that but you gotta make sure your back leg comes up as well that’s your issue.

Derek's ollies are already better than mine. I need to get back to skateboarding as soon as the snow disappears.
Crazy how that fear that stops the jump from happening. I get that as well. I used to ollie on a picnik table in my teens, and now 30 years later, I get that freezing fear when I ollie on a 1 foot high platform. We know we can do it, but the brain still says no.

i know right. i think that they do it purposely at this point. probably to get more comments to help with the algorithm. it is gross and unprofessional, in my opinion. i love braille, just not this.
What about one solid row of heavy duty staples on the length of the bottom edge of half a deck and a solid row on the opposite top length edge...? Would it flip easier?

Derek had that last one, he wouldve cleared the board. But he was right, he didnt commit to the speed. You could see him hold back on the push slightly compared to the others and didnt give him the speed to clear. Everything else was there.
