Revisiting Burke’s Knob in Big South Fork. Maude’s Crack & Overlook, Terry Cemetery, Huge Rockhouse

- We hiked to Burke’s Knob last year just to see what was around it. Burke’s Knob is a large butte that sits high on a ridge above Big South Fork’s historic No Business Creek Valley. We hardly made it 1/4 of the way around it last year but located some amazing undocumented formations. This return trip was very warranted. We located more awesome features, including a way to the top of the knob, but still came up short of fully circling the entire thing. I guess that means trip number 3 will be coming up someday! That’s a day I’ll be looking forward too!
You always show the beauty of Big South Fork most people never see. Wow what amazing rock formations! And those old artifacts were great! Love it!
I really like this place. It is so nice with all the rocks in the forest. It is so wonderful to get out in this time of year 😊😊😊 Have a great day.
Winter is when you can see long distances through the woods. We locate lots of neat formations this time of the year. There are no bugs, poison ivy or snakes to deal with either. It’s my favorite time of the year for off trail hiking!
Thanks once again Eventyrsoren. I sure appreciate it.
Take care and stay safe!
I absolutely love this one Papaw. Great video. Thank you Sir. Please keep them coming !!!!!
Thank you Roy. I’m not stopping any time soon!
Take care my friend.
So many cool features. Maude's crack reminds me of some of the slot canyons out this way. Thanks for taking us along.
Maude’s Crack is a quick, fairly easy way to get from the high ridge tops to the No Business Creek drainage in the valley below. Besides, it’s just neat!
The terrain here on the Cumberland Plateau isn’t so unlike the terrain out in your area. Burke’s Knob is a pretty big butte. There are several of them in Big South Fork, along with many canyons and slot canyons, chimneys and other sandstone formations. We’re in what is considered a temperate rainforest. Vegetation is thick here, hiding many things and creating lots of waterfalls too. Each season has its own unique beauty. It really is a 4 season place.
Thank you John. Take care my friend.
Maudes Crack reminds me a heck of alot of the Great Channels up here. Great day you had my friend!
Thanks for the window you provide on off trail hiking. Seeing parts of the park that ain't on the beaten path is special. Looking forward to seeing where you take us next.
Big South Fork has many trails to some amazing things. No question about that. The off trail stuff needs to be explored and brought out into the light too. It’s just loaded with hundreds of hidden gems! There’s no place like it!
I’ll never live long enough to see everything I want to see. I’m going to give it my best shot though.
Thanks so very much. I already have several more videos to edit and upload, plus plans for a bunch more. I love it!
Take care, be safe and stay healthy!
Another great video!
Thanks once again zo9573. I sure appreciate it. There will be more coming soon. I hope you’ll enjoy them as well.
Take care, stay healthy and safe.
Nice place to explore
Big South Fork is loaded with places like this to explore. Right now I already have half a dozen or more places to devote time to. It’s never ending here. It’s not as popular as some of the other more well known parks in the Eastern United States but it holds up to, if not surpasses them all. I’ll continue seeking out places like this for as long as I can. I’m not getting any younger though! 😂
Thanks! Please take care, stay healthy and be safe!
I have said it many times before the big south fork is beautiful place to visit and of course I love all your videos thank you so much making all the videos God bless you stay warm because it is really cold outside
Big South Fork is beautiful Willie, even in the cold of winter. Spring isn’t far away. Then BSF will take on a different kind of beauty. I’ll be out there somewhere trying to catch a bit of it too.
Thank you so much Willie. I sure appreciate you! Take care!
Hi Papaw, this is so beautiful! Hope things are good with you.😀
Things are good Goldie. I hope life is being good to you also. Thanks for coming back!
Please take care, stay healthy and stay safe.
You’ll be hearing from me again soon.
@papawinthewoods thanks Papaw! I'm doing ok here. Hope you're staying safe & warm this winter ☃️❄️
Yes, you can summit the peak by hiking uphill where the window is, Papaw. However, it is not easy. Be prepared for a monstrous briarpatch that will exact blood for passage, if you are not careful. There is a beautiful overlook on the west side where you can look upstream into much of No Business Creek valley.
Thanks Aron. I’m going to get out there and go to that overlook soon. A health issue of my own may sideline me for a while but, like you, I’m going to come back a better version of myself.
One trip does lead to another like how do we get to the top and makes some pics of the Michigan Camp overlook😂
That’s right, we should be able to see the overlook out Michigan Camp Road and John Muir Overlook too! Hadn’t really thought about that. I’m 99% sure we can get to the top. Let’s do it sometime!
