The one I own is the soft cover version. The hardcover one is really difficult to get hold of, and it reaches ridiculous prices on the second hand market.
My understanding was that the hardcover edition was only printed in the UK, and the publisher chose to 'cheap out' for the stateside release. (One more indication that a large portion of the book might've been out of Rinzler's control...)
This has me so excited. Does this mean that you're gonna be reviewing all of J. W Rinzler's making of books? I happen to own all of them, and as you say, although this is one of his lesser efforts, it's a hundred times better than anything produced these days on the subject. It's a pity that Rinzler left us last year. He'll be sorely missed, but he still has one last making of book hopefully coming out before the end of the year; The Making of The Shining, which I'm sure it's gonna be a belter. Great review. Keep them coming.
