What's really scary is how this documentary was made 19 years after the movie and now, here in 2022, it's been 23 years since the documentary was made. Time keeps on slipping into the future! Seriously, this is my all time favorite film. It came out when I was in high school and I've seen it over 100 times. I'll probably still be watching it when they throw me in the old folks home.
Yeah, I think about that w/respect to Back to the Future. That movie came out in 85 and Marty McFly went back 30 years to 1955. But 1985 is almost 40 years ago, so we're further into the future from 1985 than Marty went backwards... Also, IMHO, Caddy Shack is the second greatest comedy of all time, after The Big Lebowski.
Worked at a golf store for a couple years and in the winter when there was no foot traffic, we'd put this in the VCR an hour and a half before closing. Could write the script out of my head.
It's weird seeing people get old and dying, and then realizing you're on the back 9 riding their coat tails. It's also weird reading other people's comments, relating, feeling like a kid and realizing that these comments aren't being written by someone in their 20s, but buy someone in their 50s and 60s.
I still quote lines from this movie to this very day. My husband hates this movie, but I watch it every time I come across it. One of my favorite movies.
Michael O'Keefe told the story on TV one night that he still loved to play golf. Whenever he called famous private courses to see if he could play, he was refused. He told them he was a famous actor and that still didn't allow him access. Finally he gave up and said, "Okay I was Danny Noonan." They all said, "What time do you want to play?"
After all these years, I still watch this movie on occasion. It's such an awesome movie! It will always be a classic in my life. Absolutely love these actors and the robotic gopher! R.I.P. Ted Knight and Rodney Dangerfield.
If I could have met anyone on the set I wish it would have been Harold. I've watched a lot of movies he's been in, as well as interviews. He seemed like such a kind, gentle, and very funny guy. I'm glad him and Bill reconciled before Harold passed.
My favorite comedy movie of all time. I've watched this classic countless times, and still laugh like it's my first time seeing it. Thank you Harold Ramis, and all of the wonderful characters who starred in this timeless master piece.
Caddyshack is one of those movies that flows so well and is so funny that by the time it gets to the country club dinner scene, you suddenly realize it’s been about half an hour since it started. It’s that quick and that entertaining. Yes, it’s a bit of a shame that the main story of the caddies got sidelined, but it’s so entertaining and funny enough that you can forgive the filmmakers for going that route. Finally, a shout-out to Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Douglas Kenney and Harold Ramis. You are missed to this day.
I worked as a Caddy and as a Busboy at North Shore Country club in Glenview in the north shore suburbs of Chicago. And everything we see in 'Caddy Shack' is exactly what went on at that country club.
I grew up across the street from Indian Hill CC. My dad knew the Murray family and told me that Bill Murray’s role was inspired from a caddy at Indian Hill.
One of my favorite all-time films. Everyone did an amazing job. This was a great insight on how it came together. I think the key to its success was having brilliant talent and letting them run wild. It's what gave each character, character, instead of a script write forcing it upon them and everyone being created from that one mind.
I use that comment frequently and nobody gets it's because it was 40 plus years ago Use both depending on the situation...Don't ever try this but if anyone in a drive-thru ever said to me you'll get nothing and like it I would say let's get married right now
This is and has been one of my favorite all-time movies (comedy). The actors were awesome, but my favorite part of this movie was actually quite philosophical. When Chevy Chase is talking to the caddie, Billy, and he says something like: "Billy, see your future. Be your future. Go get your future." Those words from all those years ago have always been my motivation in life, business and more. It works. For me, this is more than a cult movie, or "just" a comedy. There are many scenes that were so relatable from that era starting in 1980 (I was 24 yrs. old) when the movie came out. Many thanks to ALL the actors, directors/producers/staff for putting that movie on the screen. And last, the music by Kenny Loggins was perfect. I was already a big Loggins and Messina fan before that.
nothing since nor ever will beat the comedy era of movies from the 80's..... Caddyshack/Stripes/History of the World/Revenge of the Nerds/Vacation/Trading Places/Fast Times at Ridgemont High/Porky's/Stir Crazy/Sixteen Candles/Uncle Buck/Coming to America and the list goes on...
Love this whole movie, every scene a gem ,from the exchange between Rodney and Ted's characters in the shop,to Chevy Chases character,a Zen golfer,"be the ball Danny, be the ball,to Bill Murray just doing what he does best, being a flaky character, this movie rocked-- and it exploded. And speaking of rocking, Kenny Logins,"I'm Alright", tops it off nicely,it had classic written all over it ,when it came out.😀😂😅😄😃😁
Definitely the funniest golf movie ever made! Never gets old watching it. Just unscripted humor at its best! When I am playing g golf and manage to drain a long put once in a blue moon, I have to say. Nananana. Nanana. 😂😂😂😂
Backroads66 - you’re not the only one to think that: in Spain they have a Caddyshack Fiesta every year and France do the « la dans du Gopher ». Russia has changed the name of Moscow suburb Dnieprgrad to Dangerfieldgrad!
Back in the day’s when you could make a movie and nobody was offended! Caddy shack, Blazing Saddles, History of the world, Stripes, 1941, are all movies that could never be made today’s because people would be so butt hurt. And all those movies are hilarious classics. Oh, throw animal house in that list as well.
In 1990 at 17 I meant this Girl coming out of an Arcade..So we start talking and somehow the topic came of who's ur celeb crush..Now most Girls were saying Jordan Knight,Brad Pitt,or whomever. She says "Bill Murray"..Right then I knew she was special..30 years & 4 kids later I was right..And I'm still crazy about her!
1980... so I was 18 when I saw 'Caddyshack' for the 1st time, and very stoned of course.! I laughed so hard my face hurt, I cried from laughter and my stomach was sore..!! That simply doesn't happen anymore and younger generations will NEVER know the PURE JOY of a perfect 'Stoner Movie' and I'm happy that "we" got to experience that. Similar to the shear fear of watching 'Jaws' in 1975 and still being afraid of sharks to this day... It was a mechanical fish..!! I recently watched Jaws an Laughed Out Loud..!! But at 13, I was terrified.
I still swim in the ocean but it was never as free as before. The writers of Jaws could say “Made you look…” for the rest of my life and I stood in line for that. ☺️
It's heartbreaking to see Harold Ramis mentioning how Bill Murray and Chevy Chase had had fights with each other during their SNL days. At the time this interview was recorded, Ramis was still experiencing his own bitter falling-out with Murray... they hadn't been on speaking terms since Groundhog Day, and I don't think they ever really reconciled until shortly before Ramis' death. The guy left us far too soon. He seems so eternally happy and proud of his achievements in this interview. RIP
Wow I can't picture those guys getting into it. Every time I see them on camera, they're so comedic. You wouldn't think they have a serious bone in their body.
he and murray and chevy are brilliant. Especially Murray and Ramis. Thinkers. Doers. Theyre real fellas who made wonderful tings happen in this universe. Im sure Murray has feelings for his old friend. Im sure things are straight in the universe somehow. Dont dwell on what couldve been but appreciate what has been and hope the best for what will be. I love Bill Murray so damn much and Ramis is a mind beyond us. Still is. Chevy Chase....he cannot be the asshole they say he is. Hes awesome. He puts out a vibe and a certain sureness of himself but its not obnoxious. I grew up blessed to have these people in my life- as many folks did. Peace.
thank you to the entire cast & crew definitely set a very high watermark !still makes me laugh 60 now... was 19 then.....great to look back & smile though.............
The funniest movie ever made, I still genuinely laugh my ass off even after seeing it at least 97 times. We even tried to replicate the spirit of the movie at Meadowlark Golf course in Huntington Beach right after it came out. What a fantastic group of people the made the movie.
This movie is my earliest memories of movies. I still remember getting a hold of it somehow at the my grandparents at around age 4-6 and laughing my arse off even then. Something I'll take with me forever. The more I watch this the more I realise it was the gopher that dragged me in. But all the comedy legends in this shaped my sense of humor forever. Thank you everyone involved in Caddyshack. You grew a boy with a great sense of humour. 🐹🏌😂
When your hear the word Caddyshack, you don't even think of Caddie and Shack. Amazing how this movie changed from being about caddies, to being about the four stars.
Back in the day, our A/V Company had a contact with Rolling Hill's CC in Ft Lauderdale and I got to see the daily filming 👍 Both movies were filmed at Rolling Hill's CC.
18:20 From what Cindy Morgan has said in interviews, John Peters threatened to torpedo her movie career if she refused to appear nude in the film. Nice guy.
Me and some of my buddies in High School (I mean HIGH), decided that the poor golf carts at the country club should be allowed to roam free at night. This was a couple years before Caddyshack. We got busted, and instead of charges, we painted the entire wooden perimeter fence around the property that Summer.
Really enjoyed this. I almost died watching this when I was about 12. I laughed so hard I couldn’t catch my breath, my dad had to do the heimlich manoeuvre to get me breathing again.
One of my favorite movies. The cast was outstanding. I think one of the producers that said the movie had "levels of comedy". From slapstick to very subtleties of comedy. All weaved together to make a hilarious movie.
I was watching Rodney's 2hr biography about his life last night. A huge turnout to watch Rodney film Caddyshack from fellow comedians, and Rodney, filming his first movie thought he was bombing terribly because none of the Comics there were laughing during his scene. He told the director I reall suck. Then it was explained to Rodney that if someone laughs or talks during filming the take can't be used. Its amazing to me how insecure comics are & people in all walks of life.
We really need to have total confidence in ourselves and love ourselves unconditionally and not give a damn what others think about us. Just find ways or thoughts to feel good period.
Before he was putting Thanagarian Snare Beasts in Superman Lives and Wild Wild West, producer Jon Peters was putting gophers in golf movies. Only in that case, it worked.
My favorite story from this would be how Ted complained to Harold about Rodney leaving a bowel movement in his trailer. On his way to confront Rodney, Harold tells Chevy what happened and Chase says Rodney didn't do it; he did.
I was only 10 years old when this movie came out. We saw it at the drive in and when my cousins we're all on the little playground playing, I was sitting on the tailgate of my uncle's truck laughing my ass off with all the adults. In my top 3 funniest movies ever.
I just realized that Bill Murrays voice as Carl in Caddy Shack is the same or very similar to his SNL voice he used as Todd when Bill and Gilda Radner played in the high school skit "Todd and Lisa". Think about it.
I was born in Fort Lauderdale and I grew up learning how to play golf at the Country Club where they filmed Caddyshack. I have some of my best memories of my dad playing golf with him at this course going to the events and hanging out at the pool during the summer. The country club is still there Under New Management and a different name. They've remodeled the clubhouse to where it's almost unrecognizable unfortunately but that's what happens with time
I heard some facts about the origin of CaddyShack. it was based on a golf course in Hawthorn woods Illinois. I think Doug Kenney worked there. It was called Indian Creek. I worked in that area in 2000 and played that course many times. (Ironically the caddies did get replaced with golf carts.) I was playing jagermeister golf one day and my buddy was driving the cart. On the 18th hole, there was a bridge that went over Indian Creek. He passed out, missed the bridge, and drove us right into Indian Creek. Good times.... What's really ironic is that a developer bought it and built condo's.
Speaking of destroying golf course: I went to high school in a rural area known as Cowboy Capital and nearby we have a large river with an 18 hole golf course country club (very exclusive) next to it. One day a group of approx. 8 of us rode our horses down to the park by the river and of course met a bunch of girls because horses are girl magnets. We drank beer all afternoon and got way too drunk to be outside alone much less on horseback. Later in the day it was getting hot so we rode and swam our poor horses in the river to cool off when all of a sudden my buddy's horse was having a hard time staying a float. As he was hanging onto the horn I grabbed his reins and pulled them to the very steep river bank where we all had a hard time climbing the steep embankment. Upon reaching the top we let our horses rest for a bit, had a few more beers then realized we were on the far back end of the country clubs golf course. Like a bunch of idiots we took off, hooping and hollering as we galloped across the fairways. We started getting noticed by groups of old golfers yelling at us. As we rode thru sand traps the hoofs were able to throw trails of sand up in the air. Then we came upon the greens. Now, if you know how much they spend in time and money perfectly grooming the greens then you'd understand that as we rode across them, our horses throwing clunks of sod everywhere leaving creators in the ground, that the old golfers were pissed, mad as Hell. They were waiving their clubs up in the air while screaming who knows what at us to the point I was (later) concerned they were going to have heart attacks. We finished our joy rides like a bunch of dumbasses and left. Approx. 4 miles away we were caught up by one of the clubs managers who chased us down in his truck. He too yelled and screamed for about ten minutes telling us we caused a minimal $20,000 in damages (80's dollar). We apologized repeatedly, kept saying, "yes sir", "no sir" to everything he was yelling about until he calmed down a little. Then he wanted our names & ph. #'s to contact our parents to pay (probably be sued) for the damages us idiots caused. I made sure to go first, as I was the one talking the most for us idiots in apologizing, etc., but also to be sure to provide a false name and number and and thst my equally idiot friends follow suit. Fortunately the Sheriff's Dept. was never called nor did we hear from the country club again. I was especially glad the Sheriff's Dept. was never called because I became a deputy sheriff for that department approx. 5 years later and recently retired after 31 quick years. Yes it was dumb as Hell and not only do I regret the damage we caused but I treated someone very poorly who not only didn't deserve it but gave me years of everything he had and trusted me to protect him, my horse, Pierce.
I remember i was such a huge fan of Chevy Chase during this time..and he was so wonderful in this..but the whole cast was so good..❤..funny funny movie..they dont make movies like this anymore..
Cindy Morgan's passing really saddened me (she is only 9 years older than I.) Her career trajectory was how one came up in the 70s/early 80s but actors didn't have the potential longevity they have today. I hope she had a happy life RIP
I'm from Australia and we have a similar chocolate bar called the Chokito. Everyone in Aus calls that scene the "Chokito bar scene". People still say "don't leave any Chokito bars behind in the pool!" HILARIOUS...
I love this movie today just as mush as the first time I saw it. I named my son after Ty Webb, lol. Tyson Nicholas Webb after the luckiest, coolest guy in the world, lol. Stripes & Ghostbusters and even the cameo in As Good As It Gets, Harold Ramis (R.I.P.), like John Belushi, Chris Farley & John Candy were so funny.
One of the funniest movies ever made. Such great memories watching this but why doesn't anyone mention what a wonderful theme song was part of that success? I mean Kenny Loggins singing I'm olright to the gopher dancing is freagin classic and everytime I hear that song I definitly think of the movie. Awesome stuff!

Rodney Dangerfield is the reason I loved this movie. I doubt it would have had anywhere near as much success if he hadn't been in it.
Face Off He was in "Back to School" too. It was an ok movie.
He definitely is one of the reasons why the movie became a success Bill Murray was really good too.
Rodney was great, but you take any of the main pieces (Dangerfield, Murray, Chase, Knight) away and it loses a lot.
He was awesome but Bill and Chevy are legends too
Ted Knight made the movie. Not even close
R.I. P. Harold Ramis, Thanks for your movies!

You buy a hat like this, they give you a free bowl of soup. But it looks good on you, though.
Thank you Harold Ramis! Rest in peace!
Ha Ha -- Chevy is Jealous of the Gopher!!!
😂😂😂😂
A classic in the same league as Ghostbusters and Animal House. Will always miss the genius.
My parents took me to Caddyshack for my 12th birthday & I saw my 1st naked woman. My mom was mortified but I told her,"That's ok. I liked it".
Wasn't Harold SCTV Alum?
ALL-STAR CAST. Thank you to everyone involved. The early 80s, were so great, because they were basically still the 1970s,which was Heaven on Earth!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Cindy Morgan who played Lacy Underall is even more beautiful in this than in the movie.
I thought so too!
"Hey you wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?" Legendary. 21:29
@@UncompressedWAVmusic That's a great way to be a psycho, my man
@@UncompressedWAVmusic you sound like the children of today. I wish that I had been rougher on my children.
"There's no gambling at Brushwood Sir...and I never slice". 🤣🤣
So many memorial and quotable lines in this epically fun film. 😆 ❤ 🎥
I was only 10 years old when this movie came out. We saw it at the drive in and when my cousins we're all on the little playground playing, I was sitting on the tailgate of my uncle's truck laughing my ass off with all the adults. In my top 3 funniest movies ever.
One of the best special features ever put on disc. Enjoy, World, enjoy.
Lacy grew up nicely.
RIP Harold
My god, Cindy Morgan is beautiful!
No need to be a dick dude. She’s over 60 and still 10x better looking than your mom
@@mikehunt8012 sounded like he was paying her a compliment (unless your reply was to a deleted comment)
They've remodeled the clubhouse to where it's almost unrecognizable unfortunately but that's what happens with time
Baja Beach Club
I heard some facts about the origin of CaddyShack. it was based on a golf course in Hawthorn woods Illinois. I think Doug Kenney worked there.
It was called Indian Creek.
I worked in that area in 2000 and played that course many times. (Ironically the caddies did get replaced with golf carts.)
I was playing jagermeister golf one day and my buddy was driving the cart.

RIP Cindy Morgan
Funniest movie I've ever seen in my life My stomach was in pain ,Tears of joy
Here I am in 2024 and this movie is still hilarious today! So much talent in one movie!
Filmed in Davie, Fl ( Fort Lauderdale, FL)
I remember i was such a huge fan of Chevy Chase during this time..and he was so wonderful in this..but the whole cast was so good..❤..funny funny movie..they dont make movies like this anymore..
Cindy Morgan's passing really saddened me (she is only 9 years older than I.) Her career trajectory was how one came up in the 70s/early 80s but actors didn't have the potential longevity they have today. I hope she had a happy life RIP
I'm working my way up to be head green keeper, so, at least I have that going for me.
I used to give my nephews "Baby Ruth" candy bars and called them "pool toys". Then when they were old enough, I gave them a DVD of Caddyshack.
I'm from Australia and we have a similar chocolate bar called the Chokito. Everyone in Aus calls that scene the "Chokito bar scene".
People still say "don't leave any Chokito bars behind in the pool!" HILARIOUS...
Baby Ruth bars are so good though
SLIP NORRIS I know. I can't go to Walmart and NOT buy the miniature Baby Ruth's. They are good and keep my dentist fully employed.
@@slipnorris5882 Those and Butterfinger bars. I like em after an hour or so in the freezer.
Thanks for posting this!
"Who the f*** is Kingsley Zissou?"
Awesome and amazing movie 😊
Chevy tries to come off as the nice guy and pin Murray as the bully
With the condescending "Billy". Hell, I had no idea who he was talking about for half the time until I figured out that "Billy" was Bill Murray.
yet there are far more stories of Chevy being arrogant and upsetting everyone he works with then Bill.
One of my favorite comedy’s of the 80’s. Classic.
Ted Knight hated them all and they him... it worked great.
Sal Paradise loved Ted
Luv this movie, Kenny Loggins theme song..great cast & plot.. But why they had Flippers laugh as the gophers voice has always mystified me ?
RIP Harold, but lest we forget the comedy writing brilliance of Doug Kenny, taken from us WAY too soon :(
That outtake w/ Bill and Chevy ....... beyond priceless
The pot scene with Bill and Chevy was just classic, and it wasn’t supposed to be in the film, Holy Dawgshit I laughed my nuts off ..
Love this. It should've opened with Chevy saying he knows nothing about golf.
You're telling me Noonan was too busy to be in this documentary? And why is Denunzio wearing a golf glove during his interview?
