You know what? We have enough Ren reactors. I suspect we don't have enough people making the kind of video that you want to make. You do you.
Your quotes reminded me of this one by Emily Dickinson: "If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry."

thank you, everything feels like a risk at the moment, can you imagine how hard it is for creators that have thousands of people watching! eek! I can't help but think should I grow bigger as a channel I will look back and wish I'd played and experimented more in the early days. Thank you for being a kind voice as my first comment!

Sorry, I posted my comment, then read yours and we used the same wording. I should learn to read what others have said first, although, sometimes there are so many, I can't read them all. I like your Emily Dickinson quote.

Ren’s audience is a very creative bunch. Tapping into his audience is great for a channel because there’s such a wide range of personalities that there will always be a bunch of us who like WHATEVER style/type of video you feel like putting out that day. My suggestion is to do as Ren wishes… and share a few Ren reactions. Get that subscriber count up over 1000 and then do as you please content wise and just make sure ya toss a Ren video in there once a month or more as a “thank you” to him. He asks reactors to react to his stuff and if you get a copyright claim just dispute it and he’ll clear it for ya. So I suggest you make your content as you please and just ensure you toss a Ren reaction in once in a while to thank him for the subs he’ll help ya get.

Joanne, I remember a wise man once saying “like a dance, the more rigid I became, the harder it got”
Don’t be overly concerned with what you’re ‘supposed’ to do. I think doing Ren reactions would be a great boost for your channel. It doesn’t have to be your sole focus. You could have a playlist of reactions or something. I think it would serve several purposes. First and foremost, it will bring eyeballs and drive engagement with one of the most incredible fan bases out there. If you feel like you’re riding Ren’s coattails doing this or something like that, remember that his philosophy is that a rising tide lifts all boats. This is why he doesn’t copyright strike anyone for using his videos. Secondly, it eliminates the ever present concern you seem to have of what to talk about next and gets you more time in front of the camera. If you want, think of these videos as a sort of practice. And I personally think that the more you allow your emotions to pour forth, the more the viewer wants to engage. As your comfort level increases, I’m sure more ideas will flow.
The last thing I’ll say is this. Think of your channel as a tree you’ve planted. You’ve already germinated the seed and planted it. Ren reactions could be viewed as the fertilizer that helps new buds to grow. Once these buds form, new branches sprout forth bearing the fruits of your own personal creativity.
Whatever path you choose, I wish you all the best. And from one RENegade to another…you got this!

    • @JoanneWhitlock
      @JoanneWhitlock  20 днів тому +2

what a fabulous and generous comment to leave me - thank you. Love the analogy re fertiliser! And yes, today I have spent time acknowledging that Ren videos would be helpful and are still being true to me. @@JoanneWhitlock laughed at "not that much reaction"
Hugs. Yeah I literally had to ration out each Ren track I experienced. Had no idea how I was going to be hit. Some filled me with more joy than I could contain, others were a gut punch. Others got me unexpectedly dancing, or stimming with enthusiasm. And I usually suppress any big external stims.
On emotional side. I had severe alexithymia and anhedonia. Hi Ren did for me what years of therapy couldn't. It caused a floodgate of emotions to open. I can't explain how cleansing that was, to sob uncontrollably. To message my oldest friend in the other side of the country to say "I've found him, the next Bowie" and know that the agreement we made in 1998 and reconfirmed every new years eve after had finally been completed. We had found a musician that would impact us as much as Bowie.
We met him in 2004. We're lucky enough to get close to front row and even luckier to happen to get a crowd controller who knew us from many years prior as she was the bouncer at a nightclub we frequented. So when we left our seats to climb to the front row we didn't get kicked out. Got to touch him, twice. Got his guitar pick and set list. Got invited back to the hotel him and Iman were at by own of the crew. One of the best nights of my life.
Didn't think I'd live to find the next bowie equivalent. Thought by my 40s I'd aged out of keeping my finger on the pulse of creativity in music. That if the next bowie emerged I wouldn't recognise them, or only learned of them when mainstream. So it was nice to see how many Renegades agreed with me. Including Renegades in their 60s and 70s.
It's been a ride. It's given me a reason to keep fighting, and given me s way to never feel alone.
I've had my brother play me a Ren playlist for MRI scans a few times now. Not only excellent for distracting from the claustrophobic noise assault, but also works as pain and anxiety relief. And the scans done since Ren introduced have been so much better, so clear and crisp, because I'm not terrified and shaking with Ren's music playing. Therapeutic indeed

Hello! My name is Kitty. I'm from Arizona, in the US. I, too, have fallen down the reaction channel rabbit hole. I'm struggling with chronic health issues and I am kinda isolated in the real world. The reaction channels have become the way that I keep in touch with other people's feelings and emotions and perspectives. When I was a teenager, in the late 80s and early 90s, listening to new music and watching new music videos with my friends was how we passed a lot of time, in the days before the internet. MTV and VH1 music channels on TV was how we saw music videos back then. I can remember waiting excitedly for a new music video from my favorite artist to debut on MTV and then talking about it with friends. I feel like the reaction channels and Ren's fan base, along with a few other fan bases, have become the friends that I enjoy music with, in the internet era.
As far as your own channel, you must do it for yourself. You can't let the numbers mess with your mind. There will always be more views on something related to an artist like Ren. There are other artists who have huge fan bases that will replace Ren's fan base in your comment section when you cover their favorite artist. But, there are also people like you and I, who are enjoying the music and looking for new people to experience it with and learn from. You have to focus on the experience and not get distracted by numbers and what they might or might not mean. The most important people are the people who engage with you, in a positive manner, in your comment section. These are the people who are most likely to return to watch you. They might return for the artists, the first few times but, eventually, if you watch enough reaction channels, you begin to gravitate towards certain channels more often. I find that if I have watched all of their Ren reactions and I really like the reactor, I will go through their videos and see if they have reacted to any other music that I also enjoy. The ones who enjoy a lot of the same things that I do are the ones that I ultimately subscribe and keep watching and trust to introduce me to things I haven't watched yet. It takes time. Just be yourself and your people will find you.
That goes for anyone who is thinking about jumping in and starting a channel. Like you said, there's room for everyone. There's an audience for everyone. You just have to give it time to grow authentically. You will find your way.
I have really enjoyed your exploration of the reaction channel phenomenon. You put so many of my thoughts into words. I have felt exactly like you have at several points over the last year or so. Why am I so enamoured with this? I honestly think it's just searching for human connections and wanting to feel like I still belong. It's comforting to know that someone else sees and feels what I feel. Just like you have done with these last 2 videos! I can't wait to see what comes next for you. ❤💐

Ren doesn't write music for US, he creates the music HE wants to make and song with his talent that's what makes it so poignant and I think the next album is gong to prove that.
So you do YOU too, react if you want to and don't if you don't, lots of us are here for it if you do though 😊
And hit the record button next time, I didn't hear a word you were saying 😉😆

You seem so lovely. I subbed on the first video I saw.
All reactors bring something new to a reaction to the same song.
If you were to do them, Ren brings out all sort of conversations and emotions to most of his music.
I don't know how much of Ren you have listened to. Even if it's a video you saw you can bring to the table how it made you feel and what you got from it . idk, it seems something different.
You do you like you said and maybe there will be a song that you would like to talk about. In the comments, we can chat about it. Whatever you do good luck.
I will click and see what you got going on.

hi, people have suggested so many songs, and reactions to songs I should see and I am definitely going to watch .... think it will also be useful to push myself to learn the tech of how to record it too ... just not today!

I think you can be liked for content..whether it be Ren or not, other you tubers have fed off the REN sensation aswell as reacting to all manner of things.some dont do just music reactions they open the door and find an interesting subject, nothing is impossible if you can talk to the you tube community over any subject matter.

I definitely get and understand where you're coming from, but i think you're overthinking it, i think once you get used to it, it will come more naturally to you. Just remember this, understanding songs is great but it's not required, regardless of anything else, your opinions is What we're mainly interested in. Your background, things you've experienced, all of these things are important. I think you would be a great reactor, just gotta stop standing in your own way, and that's the point i had to realize. I was extremely nervous about starting a reaction channel, i really thought no one would ever care about my opinions, and then I came to the realization, that who cares. I was overthinking it, and had to get out of my own way.
