  • @trtnec

    Everyone knows the Chinese are on gear, or maybe even some super-secret gear that makes their diving splashes super small too (maybe beta blocker for first 10 seconds, then on 11th second huge jumping power, then beta blocking on 12th second again?), but the reason people generally don't chalk up their ascension to drugs is because they didn't suddenly come out of nowhere like Italy did (though I doubt Italy is suddenly good because of drug use, they always used drugs too like you said). China on the other hand has always been good at weightlifting and often the best at other strength to bodyweight sports like gymnastics, and their weightlifting totals are actually worse now than in the past. It's just that the rest of the world fell off even harder in this era compared to China.

    • @matthewmckee6289
      @matthewmckee6289 3 роки тому +2

      I mean the benefits China has are just so vast. It’s not just the gear (although granted I would almost certainly say they have some of the best developed gear out of any other nation).
      Massive population pool to pull the most genetically gifted athletes from, plus the infrastructure to raise these athletes from a very young age to reach their pinnacle performance, or as close to as possible. I would say they’re probably have the closest to ideal system possible on a paper standpoint.
      Seb recently talked about the Italians too and how they had a very large amount of money put into their weightlifting about 10 years ago, and now that investment is coming into fruition. They also said they put a lot of focus on treating their athletes like humans and not just machines, which I would imagine also plays an absolutely massive part. Judging by what they’re doing now, I would say they have the best system in practicality now (assuming all that to be true), especially for the longevity of their athletes. Humans just aren’t machines, at least the vast vast majority aren’t (ahem Lu).

    @rileyrfitzpatrick 2 роки тому +1

    Interesting to hear you guys touch on Modafinil. It actually promotes plasticity in certain types of neurons. That's the tricky thing about drugs that affect the brain, you're toying with a massive, billion variable, self-referential computing machine. Anything that messes with the hypothalamus is probably more risky than is worth for an athlete.

    When you say you don't like no foot stuff, do you mean for in-competition use or also as a technique/corrective exercise? Greg from Catalyst Athletics isn't crazy about it either as he says doing it wrong leads to more issues, curious what your take is. Also, love your insights on competition day, would love to see a video on it if you haven't already done one. I find for myself the meet gets wayeasier once the Snatch portion is over and I would love some psychology on it. Thanks guys, appreciate the content as always!
    Edit: Mind expanding on the grip width mentioned for the Snatch as well?

    Could you explain why/how a wider clean grip is inferior?

    • @powderedtoastman6265
      @powderedtoastman6265 3 роки тому

      I ask this because my coach was all for the wider clean grip width.

    • @trtnec
      @trtnec 3 роки тому +1

      @@powderedtoastman6265 it's not inferior, in both snatch and clean, you should generally grip the bar as wide as comfortable without losing too much pulling power. However, catching the clean is also harder with a wide grip so you need to either catch with finger tips or bring the hands in a bit on the catch, or just start narrower off the ground to begin with
