The 40-3 home blowout by Dallas ended the illusion of being elite. The team has gone 12-13 since then. Based on the league standards, this team is run-of-the-mill.
@@albertdraves7584 the two leagues hadn't merged yet. They were the NFL champions in 1969. People forget the vikes played KC 8 months after the SB loss to start the 1970 season and beat them 27 - 10. The vikes lost SB 9 to the Steelers, then beat a tougher Steelers team on 10-04-76 17 - 6 in one of the most physical games you'll ever see. My point, the 70s vikes were as good as any team in the league. No they didn't win em all but we're still a great team that never gave up.
I'd argue that the Bears and Packers are figuring it all out around the same time that Detroit started to put it all together last season. We need an all time 2015 type draft or we're very realistically looking at the basement again next season.
Last year’s record was more due to the positive change in culture, players played happier harder and more free played a bigger role than the play calling. That energy has died down this year we are starting to see some warts in the play calling and execution. They really need to develop a quick short pass game.
In truth, the Vikings had two .500 seasons. The 13-4 season was a fluke, given how many one-score games the Vikings won. Commonly, teams win about half of those. So: 13 minus 5 equals 8. This type of outcome is what you can expect from this leadership team. Two more years of 8-9/9-8 is what you should bet on. That is why I would seriously consider firing them now, when really capable coaching candidates are available, rather than wait two more years.
Their championship standard is to not win a championship. So they met their standard. At least wait until you've won one before you call it a standard.
The team was a first round exit prior to fixing the cap. They were a game away from that with it. They had depth issues last yr too. They just had injury luck. They have been this team for 6yrs. They lost by 40 to the packers last yr
It made sense to take some cap hits this year because the team had been kicking the can down the road for years, and they did so with Kirk's contract ($28M against 24' cap). Unless you need the cap room because you're a player or two away from a championship (they were not), you're just putting yourself in a bind when you may actually be close to winning something meaningful.
Flores managed to cover up a lack of overall talent for a while but after a full season the holes were bound to show up. The offensive and defensive lines need to be upgraded, the interior of both lines needs more talent. Bradbury, Risner, and Ingram should all be replaced, and Bullard, and Lowry are nice rotational players but are not up to the quality needed to compete for a championship. Resigning Cousins for $40 + million will not allow the Vikings to improve the roster. Just think of what Kyle Hamilton would have looked like on the Vikings instead of the soon to be stock boy Lewis Cine.
The team can’t help that KOC is terrible at making halftime adjustments, and second half play calling. KOC has no killer instinct. He and Kwesi need to go.
They are a mediocre team because they have played hocus pocus with the salary cap for 20 years and never just eat all the stupid future contracts and stop kicking the can down the road . Time to reset and if it takes a few years of 4 win seasons then thats what it takes . I think their supposed cap guru needs to get replaced and someone with some fiscal responsibility put in charge . No more kicking the can down the road so you cannot ever sign a good free agent when needed .
Regarding the Bears and if I'd be happy at 7-9, let me ask this - am I getting the #1 overall pick again this year like the Bears are? If so, then yeah, I'm happy.
Other than over-reactionary, emotion laden fans who lose their minds when their team has a disappointing season, no one is talking about blowing out KOC or Kwesi. After last season, there were far more questions about Kwesi than KOC. After this season I think most fans are still fairly supportive of both, but perhaps KOC has joined his GM in the "wait and see" opinion of many fans. I think you give KOC a bit of a pass after losing Kirk. Kwesi has to address the "QB question", and may have his hand forced by the Wilfs to bring back Kirk.
Maybe I feel for the click bait. The story of this season is injuries and turnovers. It happens. No Gm and HC can be fairly judged after 2 seasons. Do that would be forever changing systems staying in a losing circle. You are usually more reasoned than this man.
You're finally coming around to why fans like me have been tepid on this team this year. Rooting for this team to win was pointless, knowing they have no chance at meaningful post-season success and are just delaying the inevitable actual rebuild. MAYBE they can pull off the 'reload' strategy, but it's incredibly unlikely. That said, the NFL changes so fast that this team could be great in 2-3 years if they get the right QB prospect.
I don't think Kwesi is capable of finding 4 starters in an NFL draft, so far he has Addison, maybe Evans and maybe Blackmon, but both are huge question marks. Then there is Ed Ingram the worst guard in the NFL other than that he has nothing.
Mediocre coaches bring in mediocre players resulting in a mediocre record. Jim Harbaugh is going to the NFL, let’s get him. KOC can go to the chargers.

You can't claim a championship standard until you win a championship.
true that
he did win a championship and came to minnesota saying he was gona bring that mentality*

@@dougkenny6548 the only team that lost a Superbowl and claims to be a champion. Whatever floats your boat!!!

Lmffao. What championship? Division? Whoa stand back. Look out world. Lmffao. Thanks I needed this laugh before work. 😂
Championship standard?!?!?!
That's exactly what I thought. Vikings and. Championship standard doesn't belong in the same sentence.
That's O'Connell's new phrase!

Too many players got hurt this season
You create a soft culture when you drop back in the gun on the first drive 3rd and 1 on your 3rd play with a back up at qb.

I think Marcus Mariota would have been a much better option if he had been available than Nick Mullins.
