    I talked to the biologists today about how this goofy weather is going to impact the pike and walleye spawns. The consensus was who knows - we'll see. Speaking of goofy, it took me some time, but I eventually found the channel cats in 2.4 feet of water this afternoon. Water temp = 50.4. Rip the pole out of your hands aggressive on a day I would historically be ice fishing. Crazy times.

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  10 місяців тому

      Funny you should bring that up. Niki and I were just saying that it would be interesting to pick the brain of a fishery biologist on how the early warm up will effect the spring spawn. I might be catfishing sooner that later with these temps.

    • @johnmiller5987
      @johnmiller5987 10 місяців тому

      From what I understand the fish will spawn when the eggs are ready. Regardless of water temperature. The problems are egg incubation and availability of food for free swimming fry. The return of barge traffic often coincides with the walleye spawn. And that can greatly affect mortality of the fry. A hundred miles down river the fish still seem to be in a winter pattern last time I was out a week ago.

    my old friend vern used to call walleyes the poor mans lobster. how important are live minnows ? or a nightcrawler on a jig head?

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  10 місяців тому +2

      I rarely use live bait for spring walleye. It's an effective way to catch fish but walleye are aggressive at the right times and you can get good action using artificial baits. A minnow or a nightcrawler will definitely get fish but it's not required.

      ‘I believe it’s your wife’s twist on Beyoncé’s ‘If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it!’ Niki’s take is “If you like it you better put a burger on it” is referring to her BUNS and you adding your burger to it? My apologies, but that is simply my perverted take on it. 😊

      @@AnglerX Saugeye. The thicker body and lighter color make that fish pretty easy to distinguish I just looked through 11 years of Lake Carlton saugeye pictures I have, and I couldn't find any two fish that look alike. It's amazing all the different blotches, spots and coloring that occur in this hybrid.

    Lance I’m catching about 70% of my fish on the Stinger Hook why don’t you use them ? I caught 17 with 3 between 15-17inches yesterday.

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  10 місяців тому +3

      Great job getting them in! With catch and release, I like to use no stinger for fear that it will get caught in the throat or gills.
