- Hi, we are Harriet and Mauro and in February 2021 we bought an abandoned smallholding in Castellón, Spain. In these videos we share our life as we restore and improve our little stone house, learn to grow and preserve our own food, and bring our 4 acres of farmland back to productivity. This is how we were made to live. Fresh air, exercise, and hard work. The results...your healthy, happy, eating the best food, and loving nature. I feel like your land is smiling now.
I doubt you can have billions of people all living in the country like this. Also remember this area of Spain probably doesn’t have snow or extreme temperatures. How would you live like this in Canada?
@@wplains Native Americans did it🤷♀️
@@wplains The 'ideal' human condition definitely doesn't align with the way a lot of us are able to live, especially now that there are 8 billion of us, but that hardly means that those who are able to shouldn't. What point are you trying to make?

This is what I want my life to be someday. Spending my time gardening, building things all on my own, and raising animals, instead of working 9-5 just to get by. Some days I feel like this is what my life was meant to be all along.
Beautifully said, I have felt that way most of my adult life.
The only meaning in life is getting through all the pain inherent in living. This is the best way to thrive.
I like modern living, but one day I do hope to convert a farm into a semi-modern house, and grow my own fruit tree's and stuff!
I know all you who read what I will say will not like it. But you can do this today! the only thing standing in your way is yourself. Look at this woman, she left everything that many would say "held them back" from doing it. YOu dont need to own land to live like this, WWOOF, volunteer, kibutz, so many options. In my life I have waited to do things only to wish i had done them sooner. If you truly want to live this way, just do it and figure it out later!
Do it.
why did I decide to watch this in the office? my colleagues are now staring at me weirdly because I'm literally crying over "We’re built to care about the world we inhabit and when we do love that world it loves us back and we feel happier and more at peace." That was beautifully said! I have loved every minute of this video :)

Oh, that is why this was recommended to me!
They're playing stardew irl, i'm too much of a cave gamer but I hope later on in life maybe I can achieve this, absolutely a life goal
This girl is a credit to her family, to herself and to 'youtube' - most of us only dream of doing the things she's done. I'm very envious!
All you need is a husband who will live with his parents for free and work to send you money.
@@pwnyboy1878 That is how most ppl around the world do it. Booting kids out at 18 is (was) predominantly an American concept. 😉
Why put UA-cam in quotes? It's not an imaginary concept, its been a thing for the last 17 years.
@@kng3785 Yeah I always thought it was quite silly that people here in the USA move out so young, it's just not a very sustainable thing economically speaking. If you're going to own a home you should prepare it for your kids to inherit. I know I'd do the same thing for my kids.
@@grubert3535 In the English language a title or name can also be shown in quotation marks. Sometimes it's used for showing that a brand or place name isn't the real thing. A car by Ford called a 'Mustang', for example, isn't a real Mustang (horse), it's car so one could put 'Mustang' in quotes. UA-cam is also a concept....it's not a tube, it's not you (or me), it's a brand, an imaginary concept...which someone, at some stage, invented as a name to represent a video sharing website. Quotes or no quotes are both correct.
The amount of time this took, the graft, the acquisition of knowledge, the sacrifice and the determination to make your vision come to fruition are so impressive and inspirational. You deserve the fruits of your labour. Marvellous!

Never fixed two pieces of wood together.....I bet that feels a lifetime away now. It's amazing what we can all do when we take a leap of faith...give it a go and dare to fail, which always leads to far more, which you've proved. Lots of happiness and mozzie free days to you both.
Thank you! 💚
The video title led me to believe she was working on this alone. But she seems to have had lots of help. Good for her and her friends.
What in the title was that? The word 'ALONE' ? Jokes. Click bait.
man that's how you live, I am so annoyed at myself for not doing something similar when I was younger and had a lot more energy. there is something so very human about pottering around your own place fixing things and gardening. Days feel meaningful and your mind feels like it is getting the proper exercise. If I could have my life over I would do something similar without a single second of hesitation.
You could start a small mushroom farm in your home if you've got limited space and mobility, you can't live your life over so think of something you can do NOW to fulfill yourself.
You will love the Medical Medium books for the energy you’ll gain back by applying some of the things he says and especially the Life Changing Foods book of his for the contact with food and nature. 💚
Container gardens are a great start. Herb gardens in little pots. It's never too late to start something. Just start small and you may find (you're) more capable of managing. Motivation grows energy too.
It's never too late my friend, start small with what you have and can do. You'd be surprised:)
I will do what you did not, to honor you and myself. Live your life well, brother. Or sister

You're obviously a very intelligent young woman. Congratulations on the results of your hard work. I lived like this in my 30s in the 1980s. I'm too old to do a lot anymore but I have always truly believed in saving this planet for the future generations so I'm so pleased to see you paying it forward as well. 😊

I actually started crying when you managed to fix the water. Beautiful place
This may sound somewhat strange, but watching this video gave me such intense homesickness. I've never lived in the country or on a farm, all my life I've been in cities across the US. Somehow this video feels like watching someone move into my childhood home, sad because you're no longer living there but happy for the new life it'll have. I'm not sure where these feelings came from but I thought I'd share, and wish you well. This place looks incredible and I hope to do the same in the future.
Wishing you all the best,

Hi, it is possibly an innate feeling in each of us. Which has been lost owing to excessive industrialisation. We've lost how to work with the natural world. To many people the natural world has become the enemy of so called progress. Yet we must not fall into the trap of romanticising it. UK 🕊️
Hi, think not of yourself as a stranger anymore, welcome to the real world and soon to be humanities once again. Keep your vibrations high in love and kindness to others and God our source and creator will be within.❤much love to you @Grayson Priebe

This is what people need. Not an apartment in a big city, but a farm that will teach them responsibility and hard work. Getting together with neighbors and learning by trial and error.
It would have to be a pretty small garden XD according to studies in 2013 there is 1.407 billion hectares of arable land in the world...and there is currently 7.98 Billion People which would give each person 0.176 hectares of land. that would be 134.16 ft x 134.16 ft if we could give everyone a perfect square. And that would be if we stole all the arable land from everyone that owned it and somehow magically had all the inarable land neatly placed next to each square for a house XD Lovely idea but its magical thinking.

Harriet, thank you, thank you and thank you. I got very emotional when you started showing the before and after shots. And when you spoke about your biggest lesson, the waterworks started. I didn't quite know why I was crying so much (I still am as I write this). I've had this little dream inside, since I remember, As I'm getting older, I understand it's everything but little. UA-cam kept recommending this so I watched it today. This is similar a bit to my journey. I bought a farm in Lithuania (I'm from Lithuania) and has been working on it on and off on my own. Harriet, brutal....

I agree completely. There is nothing like falling in love with the place you chose to live. I sold up in California in 2007 and moved to a small village in the south of France. My first visit and have to say, you have done an amazing job, and it is beautiful that you have taken the option to know your land and all it provides for you. Don't be surprised if nature reaches out to you. It does communicate, answers prayers for rain. Protects your land and critters if harmful weather is coming.
Don't think of prayers as religious. Talk to nature as a friend when asking it to protect...and provide. I suspect it has grown attached as it knows what you have accomplished.
Spread your arms in love. It will in turn fill you with love.
