About 25 years ago, when i was a mere lad of 65, I visited the Philippines with a Filipina friend of mine and her English husband, we stayed in the village of Oslob in Cebu, where i met some of the friendliest people in the world. My friend arranged with one of her cousins who was a teacher at the local high school, to have eight students come and do tradition folks dance for me and it was a most wonderful night seeing the students dancing so gracefully. The last dance was tinikling which they performed with such ease. The cousin asked me if i would like to try to dance tinikling and i thought why not? I had been doing all sorts of dances for much of my life and started to learn tap dancing when i was 60 years old so i was still reasonably agile. Off we started, the bamboo clacking in its rhythmic three four time and in I leapt with the teacher at the opposite end, and i might sound smug but i was only wacked twice with the bamboo poles (and they did hurt) but after about six or seven minutes, following the lead of the teacher i was able to do turns in both directions be the time the music had stopped. I had never enjoyed dancing so much as i did that night!!!
What a lovely memory, hope you can visit the country again sometime soon. Cebu is such a lovely place. Glad you tried tinikling. I love reading your story, thank you for sharing.
Ahhh...i used to do tinikling for fun when im bored or have nothing. Its fun except for the part where your toes or even you feet get smashed between the bamboos.ahhh...i misd it thouhh😂
I know that the traditional tinikling dance was to have the dancers blindfolded, but I don’t which part... it’s still amazing though considering all the passion, hard work and massive trust put in to this dance.
ganda at sarap panoorin ng sayaw na sariling atin very intertaining wow sarap maging young very energetic cla yung lungkot ko nawala watching her from japan mabuhay kayo
Actually, after the performance, they did the audience the chance to participate. I just did not upload it due to respect for other people's privacy. :)
Miss those time when intentionally hastening the pace to snap the ankles of my classmates.... Hehehehehhe... Ps. It doesn't hurt as much, just funny watching their faces trying to match the beat😂
I just noticed that the couple dancers on the left just kissed :) 1:14

This is the best tinikling video because it's shot close, and you can see the dancers better.
Thank you!
Razor scooters: I'm the best at destroying ankles
Tinikling: Hold my beer...
SEE LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF TRUST THEY HAVE WOAH
Specter Epsilon the traditional way would to be blindfolded 😂 (I think) so IT TAKES MASSIVE TRUST 😂

very nice
what is song's name ?
To be more specific, it's a sped-up variety of Cariño, a traditional folk song
Tinikling is the dance from Leyte copying the Tikling bird trying to evade the bamboo sticks and traps of the farmers.

Incredible isn't it?
Mahusay talaga ang kulturang Pinoy.
Tbh this is not that extreme. It's just fast. No intense choreo, no blindfolds, no pots, and little bamboo movements.
Sure. Thanks for watching and for the feedback. :)
Well done :)
What's so extreme about the performance? it's like any other vids on the tinikiling dance
Okai. Thank you for watching.
