Exactly. The LaFerrari was also hated. People just forget about it as time went on. These days the LaFerrari is one of the most liked hypercars in existence
Back then cars (2000s 2010s) were beautiful first time you see in magazines and irl Cars nowadays (2020s) are begging, struggling to be received as a good looker. Because now they just looking like a product, not a car. I'm studying industrial design, and I fkin hate, despise overly modern minimalist function design. Simply lack of emotion. The end.
The Ferrari F80 looks great except the front black mask. The McLaren W1 doesn't look as good in terms of design but it should be better to drive because it has RWD and it's lighter. A better paint scheme should help the W1 look a bit better though e.g. less black on the side doors.
Saying that, compared with their predecessors, neither of these is a big step forward is an huge mistake. Either are on a higher level on acceleration and aerodynamics, either would absolutly trash the previous models on track. But i agree that aestheticaly they could be better. I kind of like the w1, and the f80 front black stripe isn't working for me...
@triliner254 It can induce understeer if it's not designed properly, and yes, it saves you about 200 lbs on average. But the reality is you can offset the torque split, which removes understeer, and the additional weight won't matter because you can put all the power down. RWD is obsolete.
Both of their predecessors are more beautiful. You can look and admire the lines and beauty of a car, you can't see performance figures. So what's the point of them. I'd have a P1 or LaFerrari any day over these.
People thought that the P1 and LaFerrari were ugly when they first came out, but then as time progressed that changed. The same will apply here, both the W1 and F80 look great, and once enough time has passed and people calm down, they’ll see how good these cars look. Also, the W1 and F80 are now intended for a new generation, so older people may not like the designs, but then again it’s for the appeal of a younger generation.
@@themanofshadows very true. Although it was isn't love for all three of the previous Holly trinity for me. But I'd agree that over time certainly designed can grow on you or even if you're lucky enough to see on in person. I thought the Senna was the ugliest car until I saw one in person and then completely changed my mind and understood it.
I don' think it's fair to say anything about these cars until you actually see them in the flesh. If I had the money, the Ferrari would definitely be my only choice, considering the bad build quality and reliability issues I have heard about McClarens I would NEVER buy one.
I’m telling you, as soon as you see a W1 with all of that black painted, it will look amazing. Idk why they did that, whole car looks like it has a huge overbite.
True but V6 is easily using more boost and fuel. The torque numbers are 664 vs 625 with ice. Numbers overall are close. Larger engine makes it power in lower rpms. The E-motor in W1 is a torque monster vs three small motors in F80.
F80=12 cylindre/Daytona/F40, and W1= LT Sabre 🧐. But I agree both could definitely have been more attractive. The Ferrari is begging for the white and black stormtrooper spec.😊 Getting 80s Miami Vice vibes from it in white as well.
I’m usually with Ferrari but the F80 is a $1million dollars more, less exclusive because they’re making 800 of them, and it weighs more, has less power, and a smaller engine. It also looks like a Lego car nothing about it is better than the W1. Btw AMG one is better looking than both.
They have one common thing. I bet that both design teams didn't spend much on the design regarding innovation and uniqueness. They cared about functionality and performance. The W1 is half rimac half P1 The F80 is a draft modern remake of F40.
just a tip in future, when speaking of downforce its always important to note the speed at which that downforce is achieved as it will increase with speed unless its due to a fan system
The fronts of both supercars are disappointing - they look like city electric cars. The interiors are also uninteresting, with boring tablets in place of interesting dashboards with gauges.
It's the F80 for me, I love the fact there is some F40 in the design. The more I look it the more I love it. The W1 is nice also but the F80 looks better to me.
I really like your channel, nice content, but as a European citizen, all the inches and pounds doesn’t give me any clue about the vehicles performance or sizes. So just a tip, maybe you could just fill in the metric specs in the pictures when you are reading or telling the specs? Who knows, Maybe this also will provide you some more subscribers further forward. Thanks again for good automotive content😉
In my eyes, they both look purposeful, but I would go just short of beautiful or wholly distinctive, like the predecessors were. Those looked like nothing else at the time--or maybe we have become spoiled by al of the supercars/hypercars out there now. Still amazing accomplishments, but I think form took a slight backseat to function, which may be fine---they are both stunning achievements whose (assuming here) dynamics will be almost unimaginable to those used to regular sports cars.
SHORT ANSWER right now the W1 might take the lead more hp/tonne better looking and more aspirational ( design mainly pointing to the future) in the other hand the positive thing that ferrari gets from this model is apreciate even more the LaFerrari cuz it's value watching this retro modern amalgamantion ( f80) the LaFerrari will gain value. This ferrari made the McLaren look good and the LaFerrari look phenomenal. But i'm still specting the Porsche tho.( might be the best of the 3 if they do the things right and not only focus in one thing ( aerodinamical profile ( Ferrari)). One thing is clear here this cars makes cars like the revuelto and utopia look like supercars ( what they really are, these two are hypercars. (W1, F80)) but one thing is clear the designs are being thrown in the trash lately not only this brands.
@@coach4050 Well, the LFA successor (the LFR) already had a head start. Lexus was testing a new TTV8 in the LC-F mules. They discontinued that. Roughly the same time, they had acquired a stake in Mazda. Look at how the Mazda RX Vision looks. Then Toyota/Lexus came out with the GT3 design, which looks suspiciously like the RX Vision. So, Lexus has a V8, and now they have a long hood, short deck design.
@@TheCluesRNTheBlues Porsche already were working a 918 RS (Curiously, it bears a reasonable resemblance to Mission X concept) go and look that one out so it isn't weird to think about another Hybrid Hypercar made by Porsche, cuz it's a matter of time.
@@coach4050 I’m familiar with the 918. Most car enthusiasts are. If Porsche is making the Mission X a hybrid, then they are keeping it under wraps. Or, they maybe working on a hybrid and pure electric version , or two different cars. One to compete against the McLaren and Ferrari, and another to be a pure electric hypercar based on the Mission X.
The Ferrari is a bit more "fighter plane" looking than I'm used, especially if it is a succesor to the La Ferrari, but I understand for over function. The W1 for some reason really catches my eye despite that it too is a much more angular successor to the P1, which was also very beautiful, but more rounded, but again form over function, like the Senna. Their performance numbers in some cases are identical, but we'll obviously know more once they go head to head. Whichever goes quicker around the track, im guessing will be very slim. Though it was reported that the F80 was 4 seconds faster around the same track as the La Ferrari. Thats a lot of time. Should be exciting.
First instinctive answer to the title: "Who cares, I'd like both but cannot afford either 😆😆"... As a Ferrari fan I admit I might be biased, but to me of the two the F80 sounds more technologically advanced and futuristic than the W1. But having the money, I'd actually go... for a Pagani Utopia or a Murray P50. I like analogue, manual cars the better.
The Ferrari is not really that chunky, remember it uses awd and the Mclaren uses rwd. Awd is always heavier than rwd, however that doesn´t make it "chunky". It´s also the reason why the F80 while being heavier and having less power, is quicker from 0- 62 mph and is equally as quick from 0 - 124 mph
To me, the front on view of the F80 resembles a Chevy Camaro with added aero parts. Overall, each visual area of the car conflicts with the other... in Australia, we would call it a 'bitsa'! Whereas the W1 looks great from every angle!
Similar to the Ferrari Daytona SP3, I didn't like the look at first of the F80. Now they are both growing on me. The Mclaren W1 looks good, but does not stand out enough from the other Mclaren. If I see the F80 in person, I think the wow effect will be greater then with the W1. The look of the F80 is very busy and complex. Not very pleasing for the eye. But, it's the most "manly" looking of all Ferrari. Makes me think of the Ducati Panigale V4 or the Kawasaki H2R. If I was rich as f and I was forced to choose between the two, it would be clearly the F80 for me.
These two are not hypercars, just supercars. The competition is too far away in the front. Koenigsegg builds 1000 horse power more powerful car. Bugatti, Rimac and others are way better
I think both are good in their own way, but if we are talking about holy trinity 2.0 I am more excited for the Porsche based on their revealed concept mission x
You should have left your opinion out of this. This video would have been good if you just put down the figures and left us to figure out what’s better. Your conclusion sums up what anyone would say when a new car comes out. The W1 is a very very good hyper car and it looks great. But by the sounds of it you wanted Mclaren to build another p1 with 2000hp???
a chiron is faster than these 2 this aren only fast in straight line are aren about that, but you probably couldn't undestand that since you probably think they are in the same level, which quite essentially aren't( the vette isn't a hypercar.)
P1 beat LaFerrari in performance. LaFerrari was way more beautiful though. But this time around Mc is less uglier, and would probably beat F80 on track again.
@@harleyrodriguez4584 I'd disagree with you on this. LaFerrari was the pinnacle of design when it came out, and it's widely considered as one if the most beautiful cars ever. Don't get me wrong though. As a Ferrari fan myself, P1 was also a masterpiece when it comes to both design and performance, and is one of my all time favorite cars.
Clarkson house would disagree on the performance front. Plus, the F80 is AWD with active suspension, and thats why the 918 was the fastest out of the 2013 trilogy
We are all allowed our opinions. Many cars you cited chased lap times, and while some of them have designs with presence and impact, they are not classically beautiful any longer.
As an Italian I'm normally biased towards Ferrari. But it pains me to say they've messed up here with the F80. Technologically it might be improved on La Ferrari but it is definitely worse looking. 488, and SF 90 over this model sorry.

Exactly. The LaFerrari was also hated. People just forget about it as time went on. These days the LaFerrari is one of the most liked hypercars in existence
They need to remove that weird ass black panel on the front. It just makes the car look so bad.
@@willemvandernest3249 no it wasn't hated ever
LaFerrari has been loved because it was not a lego car unlike this edgy boxed car lol.
Back then cars (2000s 2010s) were beautiful first time you see in magazines and irl
Cars nowadays (2020s) are begging, struggling to be received as a good looker.
Because now they just looking like a product, not a car.
I'm studying industrial design, and I fkin hate, despise overly modern minimalist function design. Simply lack of emotion.
The end.
They both look amazing
A very American video of measuring stats

Ferrari F80 looks like they hired designer from Nigeria 🤣🤡😂
Ferrari has awd. It's already a better car. The rwd has got to stop.
Lighter better handling, better on track. It's good that mclaren don't design cars for drag strip bozos.
RWD is better on the track.
@triliner254 I don't know where you got the from but it's a lie.
@@DSOXBLADE I mean, they're usually lighter (in this case as well, W1 is quite a bit lighter), and AWD can induce a lot of understeer as well.
@triliner254 It can induce understeer if it's not designed properly, and yes, it saves you about 200 lbs on average. But the reality is you can offset the torque split, which removes understeer, and the additional weight won't matter because you can put all the power down. RWD is obsolete.
I've been saying it over and over in my head that the F80 looks like the lego version of the SF90 FXX
The W1 is definitely a work of art. The F80 looks like a block. Definitely not as striking as the LaFerarri.
While the P1 is prettier than the W1 it’s still much better looking than the F80

This 3.0 Ferrari engine looks impressive on paper. McLaren only got 27HP more despite its 25% larger capacity.
True but V6 is easily using more boost and fuel. The torque numbers are 664 vs 625 with ice. Numbers overall are close. Larger engine makes it power in lower rpms. The E-motor in W1 is a torque monster vs three small motors in F80.
They both look MEGA so I'll get them both 😂
How can you pretend to answer this question when nobody has ever driven those cars yet?
F80❤
F80=12 cylindre/Daytona/F40, and W1= LT Sabre 🧐. But I agree both could definitely have been more attractive. The Ferrari is begging for the white and black stormtrooper spec.😊 Getting 80s Miami Vice vibes from it in white as well.
Ferrari is always ahead of the curve when it comes to design and for alot of people they dont get it...yet
There's nothing ahead of the curve with this design. It's all retro.
Love them both but the F 80 takes it for me!
I’m usually with Ferrari but the F80 is a $1million dollars more, less exclusive because they’re making 800 of them, and it weighs more, has less power, and a smaller engine. It also looks like a Lego car nothing about it is better than the W1. Btw AMG one is better looking than both.
Personaly i really like the ferrari
I think the McLaren will be faster in a drag race but f80 will be faster on the track
On small tracks F80 could be slightly faster because of 4wd.
The W1 must be much wilder than the F80 with all its power on the rear. That P1 was also a dancer.
They have one common thing. I bet that both design teams didn't spend much on the design regarding innovation and uniqueness. They cared about functionality and performance.
The W1 is half rimac half P1
The F80 is a draft modern remake of F40.
F80 is growing on me more and more everyday 😊
just a tip in future, when speaking of downforce its always important to note the speed at which that downforce is achieved as it will increase with speed unless its due to a fan system
Idk why ppl hate the F80 so much, i think its better looking.
If I were Ferrari I'd also say the F80 is not a direct competitor to the W1. Most likely the McLaren would smoke it on a race track
The fronts of both supercars are disappointing - they look like city electric cars. The interiors are also uninteresting, with boring tablets in place of interesting dashboards with gauges.
It's the F80 for me, I love the fact there is some F40 in the design. The more I look it the more I love it. The W1 is nice also but the F80 looks better to me.
definitely f80 awesome
I really like your channel, nice content, but as a European citizen, all the inches and pounds doesn’t give me any clue about the vehicles performance or sizes. So just a tip, maybe you could just fill in the metric specs in the pictures when you are reading or telling the specs? Who knows, Maybe this also will provide you some more subscribers further forward. Thanks again for good automotive content😉
The only really amazing thing about the W1 is the weight reduction, and the weight-to-power ratio they achieved!
I always enjoy your comments on these cars!
but one thing is clear the designs are being thrown in the trash lately not only this brands.
If Porsche’s entry into this is the Mission X, then it will be electric, unless they switch up and make it a hybrid.
@@TheCluesRNTheBlues they will it’s a matter of time in the same way Lexus announced that the lfa successor be an a hybrid instead of a ev

W1 in RossoCorsa 322 Glasurit red... The BEST !
This video is a two card top trumps card game list, with, in my opinion, 2 cars that just don’t move me emotionally at all.
Ferrari engine 3 L 888 hp, Mclaren engine 4 L 915 hp ...💎 Vs 🚽
И Феррари как обычно будут постоянно ломаться
The W1 is the prettiest car, but am a Ferrari guy so I'd still pick the F80 over the W1.
I love the design and concept of the F80. I like having the unpopular opinion
I'll take the McLaren any day. I'm not crazy about its looks but I do think it looks good overall. The Ferrari is hideous.
And now we wait for Porsches 918 successor to complete the new Holy Trinity
I tried dark blue color on the f80 configurator with white livery and it looks better
Warming up to the F80. But the front mask ought to be an option and the sharp vertical line at the rear of the front fender doesn't work for me.
These two are not hypercars, just supercars. The competition is too far away in the front. Koenigsegg builds 1000 horse power more powerful car. Bugatti, Rimac and others are way better
ferrari all the way
I think both are good in their own way, but if we are talking about holy trinity 2.0 I am more excited for the Porsche based on their revealed concept mission x

P1 beat LaFerrari in performance. LaFerrari was way more beautiful though. But this time around Mc is less uglier, and would probably beat F80 on track again.
P1 looks way better than the laferrari.

@@harleyrodriguez4584 I'd disagree with you on this. LaFerrari was the pinnacle of design when it came out, and it's widely considered as one if the most beautiful cars ever.
