This might've reminded you guys of Firefly the show or Trigun the anime. Both are space western series. Firefly being a series by Joss Whedon the creator of Buffy. Trigun being anime on a desert planet with the main English VA being Johnny Yong Boch
The person responsible for the music is, Yokko Kanno. She is also responsible for the score in Ghost In The Shell. While this show was being made, she would turn up, unbidden with new music, in addition to what she was asked for. The production crew both loved and hated this. Because, sometimes they would have to leave work on the cutting room floor and make new animation. However the music was too good not to use. She is one of the most well respected soundtrack producers in Japan. She once toured the US, just to hear music at bars accross the country, and learn about local musical styles here.
Wow. It blows my mind when people who watch anime haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, inarguably one of the best animes ever made. Really, 90s animes were a different breed. I enjoy them much more than modern anime.
There are a lot of pop culture references in the show, I believe this episode is inspired by Desperado, Spikes martial arts is inspired by Bruce Lee and the episode names are based off of musical genres and songs. The director Shinichiro Watanabe wanted to create a new genre when he made this series, and even says that in the opening credits in the background text.
Firefly, the series or movie, is based on this series. Cowboys in space. PS Tijuana not on Earth, it is the moonlet (terraformed) that you get to see near the beginning, named after Earth's Tijuana.
@@dlazyace9116 It was expensive to make. So it really didn't have money to go on for a second season, it was "less profitable" than putting a different show up.
Oh my GOD! So yesterday it was Steins;Gate, today it’s Cowboy Bebop - you guys have literally just started two of the most amazing shows, I can’t believe it. So excited. Might have to look into Patreon soon 🙊
I watched this in full for the first time at the start of this year. One of the best animes ever made, and i'm glad I watched it as an adult. It has so much more meaning that I would've missed had I watched it as a kid, because this is way too deep.
Having watched it as a kid, I enjoyed the aesthetic, the fight scenes, and the characters but you're right, I couldn't grasp the true meaning behind the story until I got older and experienced more of life
I used to record these on a VHS tape so I could rewatch them. Bebop was the first anime I watched every episode of, and the first show I watched multiple times. In college, the Bebop soundtrack was legitimately 50% of what I listened to at any given time -- it's just so freaking good.
Hope they don't get copyright strikes with this series, other channels took a hit because Netflix was aggressively reporting reactors to make room for their shitty live action version.
5:36 Thats what i love so much about the Cowboy Bebop world. It feels so lived-in. Like, its all futuristic to us, but most of it is old, or poor or worn-out to them

"HEY! 90s aren't old!" 80s Child. Cool that you guys are going back to the classics! The 90s were the best for anime! Vampire Hunted D, Planetees, Trigun, Ninja Scroll, Samurai X (Sony Dubbed Edition), Neon Genesis Evangelion, Darker Than Black, etc. Good times, yo!
Vampire Hunter D was what introduced me to anime, or at least became aware of anime as I'd seen anime before but didn't know it was anime. I have both of them on DVD. Trigun is another great one, I often use Vash's "full" name when giving my name on forms and such. Samurai X/Ruroni Kenshin is another of my all-time favorites. Have the entire manga as well as box sets of both. I also bought the live-action movies on Prime.
You guys don't know how much I freaked out when I saw this on my UA-cam feed. I cannot wait for you guys to watch more of this!!! This is one of the most unique animes of all time hope you guys enjoy it I know you will!
This show has the greatest OST ever made. I have several discs on my smartphone all the time and I been rewatching the show every 2 years or so since 2005 when I first saw it. This show is a timeless master piece. You are gonna really enjoy it.

This just popped up in my suggested feed and I had to come check out your reactions. I see you also have episode 2 up, so I'll be checking that out as well! I hope you keep up with the whole series. It's one of my favorite animes of all time. One of the few I've bought a box set for. 1998 was a really good year for Sunrise Studios. The soundtrack for the series is definitely the best anime soundtrack of all time, and I'm not even a jazz fan. The opening song Tank is iconic, but the rest of the music is just really good and fits so well somehow.
I will always prefer this than the live-action adaptation. I understand what they were trying to do but there's something about the hand-drawn quality, the music, and just the pacing that seems like art in motion. PS. If you guys enjoy this series you should check out Trigun
If they like this series, and I know they will, then another great anime from this era is of course Trigun. I love that both shows are limited run shows and don't go on for hundreds and hundreds of episodes.
Id kill for a trigun reaction on this channel. Ive only ever found like 1 trigun reaction series but it wasnt great. Its really an underappreciated piece of media.
Great series. After not doing too well on Japanese TV, it absolutely blew up when released to video. It’s cowboys in space with legendary music by Yoko Kanno. The episodes are largely disconnected bounty of the week, but there are some story threads throughout it all. It’s wonderful. Enjoy!
Cowboy Bebop was produced by Sunrise and aired from April to June 1998, with some of the series' 26 episodes. In September 2001, a theatrical version, Cowboy Bebop: Door to Heaven, was released. It won the TV award at the 3rd Kobe Animation Festival in November 1998, and the Nebula Award in the Media category at the Japan Science Fiction Convention in 2000. Set in the solar system centered on Mars in 2071, this space western anime follows the adventures of bounty hunter Spike Spiegel and his crew as they travel aboard the dilapidated spaceship, the Bebop. It features stylish dialogue, cool visuals, and thrilling mecha and gun action. The main story has a hard-boiled touch, but the style varies depending on the episode, with a wide range including suspense, horror, slapstick comedy, and cyberpunk. As the title "Bebop" suggests, the series uses a variety of music genres, including jazz, blues, rock, and techno, and this, combined with its unique worldview, creates a unique style that was not seen in existing science fiction works. Director Shinichiro Watanabe said, "I made this by putting in everything I had wanted to do up until then but couldn't," and "I thought I was making a 20-minute movie each time." When it was first broadcast, many people said it was similar to "Lupin the Third," but according to Watanabe, it is more similar to the TV drama "Detective Story," starring Yusaku Matsuda, which was popular in Japan in the 1970s (including the narration for the next episode preview). Another feature of this work is that the racial characteristics of the characters are well reflected in the design of the world setting. According to character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, this was because director Watanabe gave permission. The production was handled by Sunrise Studio 2. The core staff was made up of people from the network of Watanabe and producer Masahiko Minami, who had previously been involved in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Macross Plus, and Escaflowne. After the TV series was produced, Minami and his team left Sunrise to found Bones, which produced the film. Sunrise is originally a studio that produces many original robot animes with the intention of commercializing toys, but the idea for this work also came from an offer from Bandai Hobby Division, who saw a spaceship boom coming with the resurgence in popularity following the release of the new Star Wars trilogy, to make an anime that could be developed into spaceship plastic models. When Minami asked Watanabe if he had any ideas, he was inspired by the work of American bounty hunters and immediately came up with an idea for a stateless action movie set in space in the near future. The concept was "space jazz" rather than space opera, and the project title was "Shooting Star Bebop!" . However, the unique style of the work was met with a negative response from those around, and it was almost lumped together with another project that Sunrise was working on at the same time. The sponsor almost dropped the project, saying, "This won't sell spaceships," but with the cooperation of Bandai Visual, the show was able to be aired. The record company releasing the soundtrack opposed the idea, saying, "How many jazz records do you think sell in Japan?" (Music director Yoko Kanno also said that she initially thought, "Jazz will never sell"), and those involved who watched the first episode before it aired commented, "It's too dull. It won't sell." With no prospect of royalty income from the toys, a detailed plan was devised to recoup the investment through music CDs and video packages. As a result, the software was a hit, and Sunrise stated that this work "achieved sales of videos and music CDs comparable to those of the Gundam series." According to producer Minami, the production costs were so high that the president of Sunrise said to him, "Minami, are you trying to ruin the company!?" The opening and ending songs and background music in the film were all composed by Yoko Kanno, with the exception of a few, and performed by The Seatbelts, a group that included Kanno and other musicians from Japan and abroad. In addition to the ending song, vocal songs were used extensively. The first soundtrack won the Animation Album of the Year award at the 13th Japan Gold Disc Awards. The theme song, Tank!, was used in the short program of Canadian male single skater Kevin Reynolds at the 2016 Canadian Figure Skating Championships (with costumes by Spike Spiegel). The terrestrial broadcast version was subject to self-censorship, and violent and sexual content, as well as flashing lights, were revised or cut. This was due to the fact that between the start of production and the broadcast, there were violent crimes committed by minors, such as the Kobe serial child murders and the Tochigi female teacher stabbing incident, and TV Tokyo's regulations were strengthened due to the "Pokémon Shock." The final episode, a compilation titled "Yoseatsume Blues - A Collection Blues," is a protest against these restrictions and cuts in the form of monologues by the main characters, and unlike regular compilations, it makes almost no reference to the story itself. The ending concludes with the provocative message, "THIS IS NOT THE END. YOU WILL SEE THE REAL "COWBOY BEBOP" SOMEDAY!" This episode has been excluded from subsequent rebroadcasts and has not been included on video software such as DVDs. In the United States, the series was first released on video and DVD, and was broadcast nationwide (TV-14: ages 14 and over only) on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim slot from September 1, 2001, where it gained popularity. However, the depictions of fake blood and naked women were edited out for this broadcast, and episodes 6 (as they were reminiscent of the Columbine High School shooting), 8 (hijacking), and 22 (building bombing) were not broadcast on the first episode due to broadcasting codes and the influence of the September 11 terrorist attacks (though they were aired in a rerun immediately after). The evolution of the theme songs is as follows 😌 Opening theme "Tank!" Composed by Yoko Kanno / Performed by The Seatbelts (THE SEATBELTS) Ending theme "THE REAL FOLK BLUES" Lyrics by Yuho Iwasato / Composed and arranged by Yoko Kanno / Sung by Mai Yamane "SPACE LION" (#13) Composed by Yoko Kanno / Performed by The Seatbelts (THE SEATBELTS) "BLUE" (#26) Lyrics by Tim Jensen / Composed and arranged by Yoko Kanno / Sung by Mai Yamane Here's the OST 😀 [COWBOY BEBOP SOUNDTRACK 1] Released May 21, 1998 (VICL-60201) Won the Grand Prize in the Animation Album category at the 13th Japan Gold Disc Awards. Cowboy bebop is renowned as the best if not one of the best shows of all time. Also, Tijuana was shown to be on a terraformed/compartmentalism colony on an asteroid (not sure if you guys where paying attention) because it showed it
@@brietzke99 what exactly was good about it? Maybe it would have a chance of being decent if they removed Cowboy Bebop from the title and changed the character's names. Then it's just an okay mediocre scifi show. But as a Cowboy Bebop adaptation it's shit no matter which way you look at it.
@@brietzke99 Not a single character is themselves when compared to the original, how is that a good adaptation? They carbon copied some scenes and plots but threw away all the subtlety and social commentary the original had, misused the iconic music and pretty much turned it into a shit show that could only be improved by adding a laugh track. But good for you if you enjoyed it, tells me enough about your tastes...
@@KaregoAt oh you're one of those guys that wants an exact carbon copy of something that already exists. Damn so you must really hate the boys Walking Dead invincible really any and every adaptation
This show is so wonderful, great, sad and funny, well written, beautiful and unique. :) 2:37 The music is very interesting. And very good. 3:31 You need to learn blow differently. 3:40 Yeah, you are right about that. Spike is the coolest. 7:33 That made a better reaction because you were talking about if she is pregnant.
Watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time? I think it's time we blow this thing. Get everybody and the stuff together. Okay, three, two, one, let's jam. In all honesty, you really need to watch the video that they did of the closing credits song The Real Folk Blues back early in the pandemic. It was an amazing video to see. But, more than that, welcome to the wild ride that is Cowboy Bebop. It's an amazing show and quite an interesting experience. One of the interesting things is that the main cast... in the majority of the episodes, they're never _quite_ the main characters of the stories that they are interacting with. They're kind of the perpetual outsiders, interacting with the stories of others, rather than engaging with their own, except on a few occasions. That's part of why I call this show more of an experience than anything. But all the same, it is one of the first anime that I really watched when I was coming into understanding what anime was, and I love re-watching it, even to this day. Part of what I love about it is how... it isn't some shining, gleaming future, but instead a future where... yes, space travel is a thing, but humans are still fundamentally _humans_, living in the kinds of buildings they would have back here on Earth, even if there's a pressure dome over them. Just that whole sense that space travel doesn't somehow magically change us as a species, but it rather gives us access to new places to do the same nonsense that we're doing here on Earth.
When people new to Bebop can't seem to think of what it reminds them of...they're often thinking of Firefly. (Might not be the case for you guys, but this is often the case.) It's mildly amusing when Bebop is accused of using Firefly as an inspiration for it's vibe and feel...when Firefly dropped 3 years after Bebop did. Looking forward to the rest of the series from you guys, as I really enjoyed your Kimi No Nawa watch-thru.
Great series, but there isn't much of an overarching story. Just a series of separate episodes, for the most part. Much more popular in the West than Japan.
I know I am late to this video, but the part where Katerina kills Asimov is the point of the entire episode. Spike is living vicariously through their relationship which is the real reason he does not go after to Asimov. And when he sees Katerina shoot Asimov and stop them short of facing ultimate peril, Spike learns something about his self and his past.

It won't sell."
With no prospect of royalty income from the toys, a detailed plan was devised to recoup the investment through music CDs and video packages. As a result, the software was a hit, and Sunrise stated that this work "achieved sales of videos and music CDs comparable to those of the Gundam series." According to producer Minami, the production costs were so high that the president of Sunrise said to him, "Minami, are you trying to ruin the company!?"
The opening and ending songs and background music in the film were all composed by Yoko Kanno, with the exception of a few, and performed by The Seatbelts, a group that included Kanno and other musicians from Japan and abroad.
This was due to the fact that between the start of production and the broadcast, there were violent crimes committed by minors, such as the Kobe serial child murders and the Tochigi female teacher stabbing incident, and TV Tokyo's regulations were strengthened due to the "Pokémon Shock." The final episode, a compilation titled "Yoseatsume Blues -
A Collection Blues," is a protest against these restrictions and cuts in the form of monologues by the main characters, and unlike regular compilations, it makes almost no reference to the story itself.
The evolution of the theme songs is as follows 😌

Composed by Yoko Kanno / Performed by The Seatbelts (THE SEATBELTS)

Lyrics by Yuho Iwasato / Composed and arranged by Yoko Kanno / Sung by Mai Yamane

...Sorry for the long message 😅
This is one of my top 3 anime. I have watched this thru so many times and enjoy it everytime
Cowboy bebop is renowned as the best if not one of the best shows of all time. Also, Tijuana was shown to be on a terraformed/compartmentalism colony on an asteroid (not sure if you guys where paying attention) because it showed it
Do NOT watch the Netflix live-action version… unless maybe you’re a masochist.
With the exception of vicious the show was good. It is even worse now because the way it ended and not getting the second season.
@@KaregoAt everything was good with the exception of how vicious was portrayed other than that it was a solid adaptation certainly better than most
@@brietzke99 Not a single character is themselves when compared to the original, how is that a good adaptation? They carbon copied some scenes and plots but threw away all the subtlety and social commentary the original had, misused the iconic music and pretty much turned it into a shit show that could only be improved by adding a laugh track. But good for you if you enjoyed it, tells me enough about your tastes...
@@KaregoAt oh you're one of those guys that wants an exact carbon copy of something that already exists. Damn so you must really hate the boys Walking Dead invincible really any and every adaptation
Cowboy Bebop
A masterpiece 🙌

Oooooo!! This is going to be a fun ride!
Best. Anime. Ever.
Netflix ' cowboy bebob is sucks
But ani cowboy bebob?? Masterpiece!!
Okey 3, 2, 1 Let's jam!
Interesting that you thought of Batman: TAS, because they were both made by the same studio, Sunrise.
Lol, yaw not ready.
The animation of the gun shooting with the barrel exposed. I've never seen something like that. Probably never will.
“Asteroid Blues”-This refers to the “blues,” as in the musical genre, movement, philosophy, and feeling.
You guys ask alot of questions 😂
She really gets and feels the music of the show, she'll fall in love with it.
One of my favorite series. Glad you guys get to experience it!!
Nice you have watched the holy trinity of anime
My favorite anime of all time!
Have y'all ever seen Firefly? If so that maybe what you're thinking of.
I love you guys for choosing this classical amazing anime
watching my favorite anime ever? pretty dope
Low key great idea, turkey leg in tissue paper instead of flowers
One of my favorite Anime. Im happy you guys are watching this.
6:56 The three old men are "Antonio", "Carlos" and "Jobim".😊
Quintessential anime classic.
all this travel is a good music.
This is one of my favorite animes. I think you guys will love it.
Watch the credits and after credit scenes. It will become more impactful as you progress through the series.
Phenomenal, been waiting for this!
Been waiting for you to get into this
one of the best anime of all time. So you gotta pay attention to the details. the music is amazing.
Ah cowboy bebop one of the greatest anime of all time. Glad y'all are reacting to this!
one of the goat dubs. one of the best anime ever. perfect ending
fun fact. the man and woman drug dealers were based on antonio banderas and salma hayek from desperado
This is biggest w of all time top 5 anime
I'm so excited for you guys!
