    To me Glenfarclas 12yo is a great dram, so much better than Glenfiddich and Glenlivet. The 3%extra abv makes the difference to me. Of course I would prefer 46%, but I think it's a really nice dram to sip...a quite dangerous dram, hard to stop drinking it😅

    The Glenfarclas 15 is quite a jump in quality from the 12. Nutty.

    I had both of them. Glenffidich can’t stand against glenfarclas in quality and taste. In my neighbourhood glenfarclas is 40€ a bottle and glenffidich is 35€ a bottle. I choose glenfarclas all day long😂

    I came from ten years of bourbon experience. When I was looking for recommendations for getting into the category the Glenfiddich came up quite a bit. Way too sweet for me I had to blend it with a rye & a Stranahan’s barrel proof single malt to counteract the sweetness. Cautionary tale for anyone looking into new categories. Maybe go intermediate or even above if you have a lot of previous whiskey experience👍

      I always find bourbon to be sweet

      @@Koby616 I agree, the flavors of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla etc. that are so prevalent made me fall in love quickly. They were all familiar & yummy flavors. The Glenfiddich though was cloying. I couldn’t finish a dram on its own. I’m curious what bourbon you’ve had & what you’ve enjoyed if any? I always encourage whiskey fans try different categories & I love doing it myself with friends or family that are new to something.

    I haven´t tried these two side by side, but I know, that my only bottle of Glenfiddich 12 took me a long time to finish while three 1l bottles of Glenfarclas went pretty quickly.

    This is brilliant Erik, we learn so much from you! This, on hindsight seems like a very affordable and obvious head to head but I've never done it before. Awesome video, cheers!

    I think 12 glenfarclas says on my bottle that it's natural colour

    The subtle wine note to Glenfarclas 12 is what to me makes it differ from many other entry level single malts. I like it.
    A bit more "warmth" and complex than many malts in the same category. Its priced the same as glenlivet 12 and Glenfarclas 12 here in Denmark.
    Slainte 😊

    Erik,
    I appreciate the detailed and comprehensive reviews that you do. Do you ever do shows or reviews live? I love the Glanfarclas 12

      I was doing live streams on Saturdays until around November 2023. I am studying for Master of Scotch exams in Scotland in April 2024 and needed more time for studying on Saturday so I stopped doing live streams. I also increased production rate on my pre-recorded videos in which I provided the history and profile of distilleries, which I finished in January, so I could then focus on preparing for the blind tasting portion of the exams in these head to head videos. I explain this in my last recent live stream: ua-cam.com/video/9wm2-MPidHA/v-deo.html

    Thanks Erik for another great video! Glenfiddich 12yo it is the gate to Single Malt Scotch Whisky (SMSW) for sure. QQ: Would it be fair to include Aberlour 12yo and Tomatin 12yo to the entry level SMSW along with Glenfarclas, Glenfiddich and Glenlivet?

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  5 місяців тому

      Maybe but I don't think Aberlour 12yo and Tomatin 12yo have the same distribution and availability.

    Me gustan ambos,la principal nota de glenfarclas es la del tabaco Burley y la de Glenfiddich la s pera y el pino,ambos son excelentes tragos.Tengo entendido que el primer blend fue el que hizo Mr . Smith 50% de Glenlivet 59% de glenfarclas....sería bueno repetir 😊

    How many people came into whisky with Glenfiddich?
    It's one of the main gateways to Scotch.

    100% aged in Oloroso casks should make Glenfarclas better and add to the cost. Not a fair comparison. Why is Glenfarclas offered on almost all airlines? Is their production volume large?

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  6 місяців тому +2

      Did you ACTUALLY watch and pay attention to the video? The video is about comparing direct fire still single malts. VERY few distilleries still use direct fire so can you tell me two better direct fire still single malts to compare? Also, they have to be from the list of the 24 distilleries that will be on the Master of Scotch Whisky exam in April 2024.

    • @DileepB
      @DileepB 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies Yes, I watched it. Any whisky aged in Oloroso casks will taste better even if it was not direcd fired. That is my point. Not a good A-B test scenario IMHO. Casks do matter, in case you forgot :-)!

    • @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
      @ErikWaitWhiskyStudies  6 місяців тому +1

      Name me a better Direct Fire Still Single Malt vs Direct Fire Still Single Malt. That is the scenario and point of this video. Not the ABV, not the casks, not dunnage vs racked warehouse, not a gazillion other factors that matter and makes these whiskies different.

    • @DileepB
      @DileepB 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I heard you mention Springbank, but it would be be fair to compare it to Glenfarclas or Glenfiddich. You could have made your point about direct fire vs steam coil better during your Glenlivet vs Glenfiddich head to head review.
