    Razer really goofed up the surface temps. Even the Advance model doesn't get as hot on the exterior, especially not on the palm rest area.

      @Shreshta Jaiswal I noted that in the video shortly prior to the surface temps. I mentioned that the CPU could only maintain 35W in Balanced Mode and 45W in Creator Mode because of aggressive power limiting. The average for a 15" gaming laptop is 75W on the CPU, and 90W being the default long-duration power limit for Intel turbo boost. I think it's actually too aggressive. 45W turbo boost when it's only hitting 75C with a prime95 CPU stress test is a little nuts. Still has thermal headroom before it reaches concerning temps.

      Would you recommend this razerblade 15 over something like a MSI GS 66 for gaming? (Ex: are the thermals better on the GS 66 with RTX 2060..) Use for light/medium gaming for Xbox

    • @InfinityLabsTech
      @InfinityLabsTech  4 роки тому +1

      @@SouthernUnboxer I have not gotten the GS66 yet, although I think I might be getting one soon ish. Soon as in probably a month. Honestly, I would personally buy the GS66 because I don't really like the Blade 15 base model. The risk of not knowing how good or bad the GS66 is outweighs how bad I know the Blade 15 is (in terms of overall user experience). GS66 also has a bumpin 99 watt hour battery so it should pull like 7.5-8 hours of battery life with light use with Intel CPUs if I extrapolate from other laptops.

The temperature in laptops are very high, you can’t ecape that nowadays so you shouldn’t be too worried about, the reliability is something else, as it is very dificult to fine data for those kind of things. So you might want to more warranty than the 1 year that comes with it.

    IF YOU OWN A BASE MODEL 15 HEAR ME OUT. If youre looking to game and dont mind sacrificing 10-20 fps do the following. Reduce max processor % to 99 (plugged in of course). Disable boost using throttle stop. Theres literally a button that you press to disable boost. And of course set fan speed to max. On valorant i was hovering between 75 to 85°C. Once ive completed the settings above, i was getting 45 to 55°C MAX and my fps were somewhere between 130 to 180

    One think to say about razer i got my Blade 15 advanced 3 days ago and its great and ok quality but their flex cabe for display is awful and that is the reason I'm sending mine back in January because the flex cable is 3 days old and it already has stretch marks and line from just opening the display i would not care if it was easy to order and replace it for normal price but because razer does not provide parts at all you cant find that cable anywhere, I have the RTX2080 Max-Q an 2600€ Laptop that has very poorly made display flex cable They could use the normal cables instant of flex but they did not... They been selling advanced models with flex cables sine 2018 and, I have read that many people had an issue with camera and mic because of broken flex cable !

    I think for gaming laptops that 4-5 hour mark is a good sweet spot for day to to day use. I have the aero 15v8 and battery life is pretty decent when I was a full-time student ( so word processing, around 10 tabs, a couple videos, and maybe excel) I could do a 6 hour day without a plug, granted with some "range anxiety" 17% mark is when I finished and that with actively thinking about half battery, brightness 35% no sounds, backlit keys off, and screen of for a couple mins during lecture
    I wish battery life was tested with the intention of " can this device perform these tasks reseason able on battery" Versus dropping performance on everything until it can do the bare minimum
    what slightly bothers me is that at least for the Aero 15 v8 on battery the CPU is locked at 1.70ghz so some tasked get really slugged, I understand its to save on battery but there is no excuse i have an HP laptop for work and CPU to fluctuate to the 3.0 or 2.5 and lower to 1.3-0.7! yes, the core count is different but even so the cooling for the gaming laptop should better, therefore, sustaining clocks versus ultrabook trying to keep cool. Single-threaded tasks will benefit more from a 1 or 2 cores at 2.3-2.8 than all six at 1.7

    I picked up one a couple weeks ago. My battery life is right around 1 hour doing light work like UA-cam and Office stuff. I have minimal background tasks, panel lighting is halved and so is the backlight on the keyboard, and everything is set to default in Synapse. Everything else about it I absolutely love, and yes mine does get toasty as well but this battery life thing is driving me crazy. I mean, 1 HOUR?
    It should be noted that this is my SECOND laptop in a row to do this right out of the box. Seriously considering returning it but not sure what to get.

    • @InfinityLabsTech
      @InfinityLabsTech  4 роки тому

      Uhhhhh pretty sure you get like a little under 1 hour of gaming on battery. Check task manager, something is definitely killing your CPU or GPU. No 15" gaming laptop has lasted only 1 hour with ACTUAL light use, as in no unexpected behavior.

    • @Blue6Romeo
      @Blue6Romeo 4 роки тому

      @@InfinityLabsTech Tell me about it lol. A recent update to Windows 10 2004 has improved the battery life, I can now get about 2-3 hours out of it if I'm lucky. But there isn't anything abnormal running, it's a fresh install of Windows straight the manufacturer. I've also undervolted the hell out of it, I think around 160mv so far, but haven't seen much improvement.
      The one thing I've observed is that during these light tasks, my discrete card is being used sometimes instead of the integrated graphics. I can tell because ThrottleStop's temperature widget will sometimes drop to 0, indicating it's trying to read the UHD graphics but failing, then jumping to high 40s which is my discrete card. The Nvidia control panel has been globally set to use integrated graphics, yet Windows still switches to it whenever it wants. I believe this to be the main cause of so much pull on my battery but have no fix at the moment.
      Also, excellent content! I love the way you present your info, it's casual and doesn't feel like you're just reading from a script (even if you are) which is something I admire. Keep it up!

    The Blade 15 Base 2020 model is pretty much unusable without an external keyboard while gaming from my experience. Even with turbo-boost off the palm rest gets uncomfortably hot and the keyboard is just a hazard. After my second day of use the unit shut itself off due to the CPU overheating, getting up to 100 degrees C on all cores, since then I have turned turbo boost off. A month later it died completely, this was with the unit running around 75 degrees C with turbo boost off. Currently in the RMA process. PSA avoid at all costs, the design is great but the reliability just isn't there yet.

    Hi! Thanks for the amazing and detailed video!
    I never owned a Razer laptop and I'm considering buying one.
    I'd like to replace my 1st Surface Book with Performance Base (GTX 965m) as well as my desktop workstation (i7 3930k, 32GB DDR3, GTX 1060 6GB) with custom liquid cooling.
    As I've moved to UK for work reason and I don't have lot of space to fit a desktop, I'm considering selling my desktop and probably even the Surface Book for a single portable machine, capable of gaming and content creation performance.
    I've found an offer for a 2019 Razer Blade 15 Base Model at 1199£, with 9th gen i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 1660ti.
    I need a laptop for content creation (LR, PS, Pr, Capture One) and capable of gaming some AAA titles. I also own a Oculus Rift S so I'm a VR player.
    My choice was between Surface Book 3 (no Rift S support), Dell XPS 15, Eluktronics Mag 15.
    Dell XPS 15 is a nice machine but it's very expensive and it isn't compatible with the Rift S (video port is linked to Intel GPU).
    Eluktronics would be a good choice as well but I'm afraid it would be too bulky (I'm used to Surface Book) and the price could get a bit high.
    Being also on a budget this offer I've found for a brand new 2019 Razer Blade fits my needs for work and fun.
    I don't need the latest +10% performance given by the latest gen CPU, I've been using a Skylake i5 6600u, so everything would be amazing for my job.
    Would you suggest me if It's a good choice the 15 Base Model from 2019?
    I'd plan to upgrade ram to 32GB, SSD in the future.
    Thanks in advance for the help!
    PS: I love my Surface Book but the inability to upgrade anything it's very limiting and frustrating. I upgraded the GPU thankfully to the fact I could swap the base with the more powerful Performance Base GPU! But it isn't enough for VR, Gaming and latest content creation requirements.

      For me, I saw Razer as the company that made high end laptops where cost is no object. Basically a MacBook Pro with a faster GPU. I wish the Advance Model was that, and the Base Model was like a Lenovo Legion laptop with the same CNC'd aluminum build quality. I personally feel like they are falling behind, but I didn't say that in the video because I've noticed that when reviewers start to bring their personal feelings and biases too much, viewers dislike that. Decided the best conclusion is to list its weaknesses and offer an alternative that excels in those areas (just at the cost of build quality).

      Have not seen it in person yet. I've reviewed the 2019 Advance Model and IF they have not improved the keyboard, then I don't think it's "endgame" worthy. Lenovo now has very bright 500 nit 144hz screens, MSI's GS66 Stealth has a 25% larger 100 watt hour battery, the OMEN 15 has ridiculously good cooling, there's also AMD Ryzen if you're interested in that. If you are looking at the Blade because you think it's the ultimate no-compromises laptop, it's not. The 2019 model is good overall, but it's not a laptop that's "better than everything else no matter how expensive it might be." And neither is anything else that I've tried, unfortunately. There's a lot of laptops now that each excel at one or two things like those 3 I mentioned, but there's nothing I'm aware of that excels at everything.

    The thermals of the 2019 Blade Advanced really annoy me. Unless I use Throttlestop, when the device is plugged in it overrides Intel Speedstep and stays way above base clock, causing the fans to constantly spin up and down just web browsing. I imagine the 2020 is worse with the new Intel chips.

      Too bad Intel killed support for undervolting on 10th gen CPUs. NONE of the laptops I've reviewed with 10th gen CPUs supported either Intel XTU or Throttlestop. Otherwise, I would have undervolted this to see if there was at least a workaround for the surface temps.

    I wonder, I don’t mean to be the dumb one but say I’m playing a low-demanding game like team fortress 2. Will the laptop automatically use all the power it can to play it despite it not necessarily needing it? If it does not, does the laptop stay cooler then?

    • @InfinityLabsTech

      Specifically for tf2, it's single threaded and not very GPU heavy so while it will try to run at the fastest frame rate it can (unless you cap it in the game. default is 300 i think), it won't actually use up that much of your GPU or GPU. Poor optimization basically.

      I would still choose this design over a charging port which fits in only 1 orientation. If you have a tiny USB wireless receiver (such as the kind found on Logitech mice & keyboards) and don’t require Ethernet, having the option to have the cable go in a second direction just provides an extra option - which I can’t complain about.

      No, single zone means the entire keyboard can only be one color at a time, but you can change it to any color you want. No, I said "AND when you have manual fan control." The "bad thing" is in reference to the slower but quieter maximum fan speed, not the ability to manually control the fans since that's optional. You can always choose to run the fans at the manufacturer's fan curve.
      If Razer limits the fans to 5500RPM and it still runs quietly, that means you now lose the ability to make your laptop run really loud for really good cooling.

      For gaming laptops specifically, the Alienware m15. Very good key travel, can't remember how tactile it is but it stands out in my memory as a keyboard that I enjoyed typing on. I don't remember anything else that stood out as being particularly enjoyable for a gaming laptop specifically (that I've reviewed).
      For laptops in general, the Surface Laptop series, Surface Book, Surface Pro type cover is a bit strange because the entire type cover flexes downwards; the ThinkPad P1/X1 Extreme has very good key travel but a softer tactile bump than the Surface devices, quite similar to the older MacBooks; the 2015 and older MacBooks, and I think there was one more but I can't remember it. My favorite is the Surface Laptop. Good key travel but very tactile. You can immediately tell when you've missed a key press. If I can't, then I'll usually continue typing for 2-3 more characters before seeing the typo on my screen but when I can, I can often stop and press backspace without any additional key presses. Very nice.
