how did the trade not directly involve the penguins yet they both won and lost parts of it?
McCann - win
Bonino - WIN
Gudbranson - yikes
@James Coleman it's because the team was getting old while the league was getting younger. Pens would be in the same boat as the Blackhawks if he didn't adjust
This is why Steve does trade trees they can get wild.
Funny thing is Pittsburgh were rumoured to be in the mix to trade for Kesler at the time.
@@tttoasterr8923 its not even that he was able to adjust, its just that Rutherford didnt trade 2 of his best players (panarin and Hjalmarsson) for lesser players (murphy and Saad)
don't forget that Gudbrandson is now a Duck
Dont forget that Gudbranson is now a flyer
@ANDERSON WOLFE he's a flyer
@ANDERSON WOLFE taken from fa this year
Sorry I just messed up the eriks haha
And the Ottawa Senators as well
Luca Sbisa was one of the top defencemen in terms of hits that led to a change of possession. That's important. He had a bad reputations with Canuck fans, but his actual stats were solid.
This trade became how did the Seattle kraken win in a trade they didn’t exist for
Jared McCann had 27 goals and 50 pts last year in Seattle.
If I were the Ducks I'd still do the trade. Losing Bonino hurt, but Kesler made Anaheim an elite team in 2015. The extension hasn't worked out, but it had to happen considering what they gave up. Until his hip gave out, he was one of the most effective players in the league, whether you think he was a dirty player or not. So yeah, I'd do that trade again in a heartbeat. It wasn't Kesler's fault they lost to Chicago, that's on Getzlaf and Perry.
How about the Pavel Bure trade from Vancouver to Florida which sends Defenseman Ed Jovonaski to Vancouver, did both teams win?
As a canucks fan, just about every trade that happened my heart lost it a little inside when each one happened
Kes has to go. He tore the team up from the inside
So basically, the current condition of the Kesler to Ducks deal leaves a semi-retired Kesler (may never return from LTIR - hope he does, for his own legacy... But what will be left in the tank even if he does?) on the Ducks side; for The Canucks, they have currently two top 9 forwards playing pretty good hockey (Person and Sutter), and 2 prospects, at least one of which is likely a pro player (Lockwood). I'd say this is no contest, as it stands right now: Long term, Canucks have won this deal in a LANDSLIDE.
You should do the Big Buff grade from Chicago to the Thrashers
Forever a fan of Kesler!
You should do the Gretzky trade
ua-cam.com/video/lvuqTgdiM_E/v-deo.html
One I would Iike to see is the trade that got Chara and Spezza to Ottawa
Should do the Jason spezza trade it’s a long one
Florida also traded McCan and bugstad to the penguins
Please do Derick Brassard!
Imma guess. That this tree will continue for another few years
Cool video.
David Pastrnak OOOF! 😂
The Eric Lindros trade to Philadelphia
Vancouver really should not have traded McCann.
I. Love. Trade. Trees.
The person that made the 70th comment on this video should be ashamed.
does anyone else remember when dorsett lead the league in goals thru the first like 10 games one year?
Then he got a career ending injury. Damn.
Lol
I’d say the winner from the kesler trade is the penguins
Idk man pearson is looking pretty good over here in a nucks uniform
@@AmokCanuck This trade lead to pittspurgh getting McCann and Bjugstad from FLA for Brassard, as well as 2 Stanley cups from Bonino. So idk, sounds like their making out better to me 🤷
@@jadenbenson9880 completely disagree lol pens got cups but now their rosters kind of shot lol. Brandon Sutter although not putting up massive points has been a key center man for us and Tanner Pearson has been incredible for our young roster. Canucks probably have the best chance to win a cup that they've had since 2011. Short term sure pens won but in the long term the canucks have a roster with potential everywhere
@@NLSNcs Ok and?? The Stanley Cup is the ultimate prize in the NHL. Teams build to be good for some time, win some cups hopefully, and then everyone gets old so they rebuild. The Penguins rebuild for the team they have now started way back in the mid 2000s, their timeline to win ends when Crosby retires, and since he's getting up there in age of course it's becoming their time. The Penguins have been dominant since Crosby came in. The trade we're talking about here lead to the pens getting that extra push of what they needed to win back to back and they did. Now, after a few more years of contending, they will start the next rebuild. It's the circle of life in the National Hockey League.
@@jadenbenson9880 that's crrrraaaazzzzyyyyy
Kesler was a beast and i respect Dangle so much for finally showing the world.
Yeah I remember him sitting straight down on the puck looking like a complete dumb ass trying to pretend he didn't know. Or him disrespecting Michael Ferlund "Ferklund? I think he's been pretty irrelevant." "Ferklund" then DESTROYS Vancouver. There were so many effective second line centers just as good who played with sportsmanship. I hear he's an amazing guy off the ice. So was Sean Avery... till he punched a cop or something.
Studio Zero and if there were so many better second line centres, there would be hardware to prove that. Kesler was one of the best two way players on the entire league for a while. That selke proves that.
Do Trevor Linden to Islanders and how it is still affecting the Canucks today
7:43 Punjabi announcers are underrated
I wish we could get them in the states
Right? Here's another one, also involving the Pens for whatever reason ua-cam.com/video/yYXXAX24-Yw/v-deo.html
Sounds like some South American soccer commentator
McCann went to Pittsburgh you forgot that on the chart
"He played in 69 games - that was nice"
- Steve Dangle, 2020
EDIT: Nobody ever like this comment again. It is perfect.
ur comment has 69 likes
Ducks also got super close in 2015, first year with Kesler. Toews said that Ducks/Hawks playoff series was the hardest one he's ever played in...probably almost exclusively 'cause of Kesler. I hope he's got more left...but after all these surgeries...I can't imagine it :\
1:25 "Not Crosby, Ovechkin, Phaneuf...."
I'm pretty sure Dion is way better than Sid and Ovi so that list doesn't make sense
Sam Shepard the GOAT
Context- Phaneuf has a stellar rookie year and at that time many people thought he was just about at the level of Sid and Ovi
Leafs legend Dion pheneuf
@@eckzotic I definitely remember him in the same conversations as Ovi and Sid back in those days. He put up points, was a MASSIVE physical presence and was decent in his own end.
He was not that tier, but his rookie year was phenomenal. If you were to list a 3rd person from that season, he was the one at the time. Other people who recieved Calder votes were Lundqvist, Ryan Miller, Jeff Carter, Seabrook, Kunitz, and Suter. That year was straight-up stacked.
I've never thought about this before...but maybe 2003 ended up being such a deep draft year BECAUSE of the 2004-05 lockout. That would've been the season that most of the 2003 first-round picks would've been expected to make the jump to the NHL (or else be viewed as a possible disappointment). Maybe that forced extra year of development produced a lot of stars because it was shame-free; none of them had to play with the psychological pressure of not having yet lived up to their draft status. It was relatively easy to take that second year of development in stride, and really focus on improving their game.
This hypothesis would explain why it was the 1st round of players that was especially strong. In fact, I think I remember the 2003 draft not being considered especially strong at the time. Phoenix, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Colorado, Detroit, and Dallas all traded out of the first round for not much.
On researching this, I noticed The Hockey News wrote an article on this hypothesis last summer. If I were a GM, I'd look ahead to when the next lockout might be and load-up on 1st round picks two years earlier.
2012 NHL Draft didn't go so well other than Forsberg.
@@themarksman1313 The last lockout was 2012-13, so we'd have to look at the 2011 NHL draft for a proper comparison. Admittedly, the 2011 first round wasn't exceptionally great either but it's not a perfect comparison. There was still a half-season in 2013 after all.
One additional note about Kesler: Canucks prospect R.J
Umberger refused to play in Vancouver's system after they drafted FORMER TEAMMATE Kesler, demanding one or the other be moved.
Why tho?
NICCCKKKKK BONNNNINNNOOOOOOOOOOO
I've noticed over the last few years that it seems like Pittsburgh and Vancouver are like best buddies when it come to trades. They seem to like to trade between the two a lot.
The reason Mcann kept getting traded is because he had attitude issues. He’s a decently skilled player, but he thinks he’s way better than he is and his teammates have spoken out against it previously. Management notices things like that
8:20 - never change Steve
Edit: and 12:11
What about Erik Gudbranson being traded to the Ducks?
Canucks traded him to Pittsburgh not Anaheim
Johnny Canuck he got traded to Pittsburgh, who sent him to Anaheim
@@leftywith4strings201 True, but that is still a side effect of the Kesler trade. Could be worth mentioning!
No complaints from this Anaheim fan.
Canucks trade Tanner Pearson for Casey Desmith, a solid backup for a team that shot right out of the gate to start the 2023-24 season
Man, you should hear the things some of the Canucks had to say about McCann. Didn't seem to be very popular in the locker room
RK17 and AB14 were the only pieces in the playoffs (Lou sometimes), not quite enough!
i didn't leave the room and now im absolutely heartbroken
Yoh should do the mike richards trade from philly to the kings
8:27 is one of the biggest "Oof!" moments I've ever personally witnessed.
Interesting to look back now; Jared McCann led the Kraken in points this past season.
Kesler only accepted a trade to one team, I remember that one and canuck fans wasnt happy
imagine had Kesler ➡️ drafting Pasternak 😂 but TBH between Petterson (5th), Hughes (7th), Horvat (9th), and Boeser (23rd)... you can only get lucky so many times
Pearson + Suttter instead looking pretty good now anyhow the way he’s improved this year
We wouldn't of gotten a lot of those players since Pasta would of made us better and draft higher. Maybe we would even try to make the playoffs sooner.
Luongo trades!!!
I love these, these are just so good for watching and i cant wait for more!!! I always watch these as soon as i see them
I am far above you Steve I hear 69 I automatically say "nice"
I played on a team with that 2016 4th round pick. Johnathan Ang
When D’ange said “nick binno”
I was waiting
Love these trade trees!
Trades trees are like family trees they never end!
Pearson to Montreal keeps this tree going.
Do the Marian Gaborik trade (Rangers to Blue Jackets)
Thats a great one! Led to Mika!
TP 88 if you go back far enough there was a piece in the Rich Nash Trade that was included in the Gaborik trade. Soo...
@@davidschenker182 who? Was it the def moore?
TP 88 Steven Delisle
David Pastrnak. I see. Now my bum hurts.
U r the BEST!!!! MR. STEVE DANGLE U KILL ME!!!!!😂🤣😂🤣 im a HUGE!!!!! hawks fan an u r spot on about Kesler a BEAST an a a warrior!!!!
Seems like the Penguins have a knack for getting more mileage from former Canucks players. Yes, as much as Pens fans will whine and b**ch about Gudbranson, he was actually serviceable as a 3rd pairing defenseman. Indirectly, but McCann looks like he may be the Penguins' 3C option should they have to offload Nick Bjugstad. Bonino, winning 2 Cups and creating the HBK line is enough. Wonder why Jim Rutherford didn't pull a Jedi mind trick and acquire either the Sedins or Elias Pettersson from the Canucks? Pens fans will cream in their pants at the thought of any of those 3 in black and gold (and I remember some less than intelligent Pens fans celebrating like crazy when they thought they acquired Elias when it was actually Marcus; the two are not related, just throwing it out).
Luca Sbisa may not have been as bad as some claimed, but you can't use games-played as evidence of anything when Willie Desjardins was behind the bench for all of those games. Just because the ghost of Alain Vigneault carried the team to the 2015 playoffs doesn't mean those 2014-17 Canucks teams weren't absolutely stacked with replacement-level talent.
I still have nightmares of seeing the Jayson Megna line come out for a late o-zone faceoff needing a goal... then seeing the goalie pulled and Linden Vey jumping on as the extra attacker...
Can we get the Sadd/Panarin trade tree
The rumor was that Kesler slept with Schneiders GF. Thats why Kesler and Schneider were traded, getting rid of the controversy... We were supposed to trade Luongo and keep Schneider, but then Kesler slipped and fell into Schneiders girl... If this didnt happen, we would have kept Kesler, just saying...
Pearson for desmith
Also like to point out that Kesler wanted out of Vancouver and he gave a very short list to the Canucks of teams he was willing to go to apparently only Pittsburgh/Anaheim because Mike Gillis loved giving out NTC and therefore Jim Benning who had just stepped into the GM spot was given a tough task.
People hate Gillis for his NTCs, but if you want to keep a talent-laden team under the cap, you have to reduce their cap hits either by bribing them with NTCs or else giving them contracts that extend well past their prime. The former makes them hard-to-trade, the latter makes them untradeable. Looking at Chicago and LA today...I'm happy he took the former.
@@cherkovision yes I understand, I'm just saying that, this is the reason that the Canucks had those deals like Luongo and Kesler as the most notable
seeing as how the Ducks traded the Kesler contract this past season ya maybe this trade tree might have to get revisited at some point since the Ducks side will be bigger (once some of the draft picks involved get squared away of course)
just knowing that Petterson, Horvat, Boeser, Pastranak, Pearson, and Tifolli could have all been on vancouver right now kinda hurts me
Oh yeah 16-17, you mean that year the ducks won the playoff series vs the oilers 2 games to 5 :). (I may still be upset about this)
Trading Cam Neely and a first to Boston. Was as bad as the Oakland Seals trading their 1st rounder to Montreal and that pick turning into Guy Lafleur.
Sigh, i wish Kesler could come back, but even so, he wouldn't be the same. They were oh sooooo so so close in 2015....so close :(
You forgot to mention Kesler hip surgery, nightmare for Anaheim salary cap
The outrageous cherries correlatively paddle because grass immunohistochemically ski atop a combative singer. helpless, tame colombia
Do the yashin trade with Ottawa and the islanders!
Wasn't he Mr. Turtleneck.?
Make a Scott Stevens trade tree. How a offersheet from Blues made him a 3 time Cupwinner in Devils!!!
God this guy is so annoying. How is he popular again? Is he supposed to be funny? I lasted literally 5 seconds until I found out it was the youtube guy.
They got rid of Kessler because of his off ice actions more. Not popular after sleeping with a teammate’s wife.
Do the Boston Bruins Cam neely trade
it has a LOT going that went on for like 30 years
SniperElite12 W - how about no?
@@pahulgill6114 why?
watched half this video and couldn't take any more of this guys schtick...next....
I may cry again, but do the Filip Forsberg Trade Tree.
Really hoping there's some random nhl player in these comments who has played more games than luca sbisa
I love these keep i up!
The Canucks were pretty lucky that the Kesler trade did not turn out to be wine for water.
Funny how Sbisa, Sutter and gudbranson all hurt the canucks more than they helped.
Sutter is injured a lot, but when he’s in the lineup, he’s good. He can score, check and win faceoffs. Solid piece to the puzzle.
@@Statsy10 when hes injured he helps the team the most. Sutter has become a liability and he cant even win faceoffs anymore. Nowhere near worth what hes getting paid.
These are the best videos , thank you for making another one
I cant find a Trevor Linden trade tree video. Please do one.
The Pittsburgh announcer at 7:43 sounds like Bill Burr doing a bit.
8:38 I see what you did there
Dorsett is still in my top 2 for my favorite Bluejacket of all time
Jared mcann or pastranak..... hmm mcann is definitely better

not sure why ppl still think PIM is a good stat
Lockwood was traded to the Rangers today for Kravtsov
yeah. sbisa, one of the members of the misfits...
#goknightsgo
You need to do the Jared McCann tree. If not from Vancouver to Florida from Florida to Pittsburg HOLY COW! Unless that was all for Nick Bjugstad and something tells me it wasn't.
How is it you didn't mention that Kesler demanded the trade, refused to play another game as a Canuck, and was only willing to waive his NTC to go to the Penguins (who didn't have cap space for it) or the Ducks? How the Ducks had two first rounders and the Canucks couldn't get the higher one basically because the Ducks knew there was no "market?"
Wow! That Canucks side was very long! Longer than most! However ,you didn't complain once about it like you usually do! Much better! Except for that soft discreet one at the end...also nice.,
Ryan Kesler will always be a Canuck
I want to know about the Pavel Bure to Florida trade
Can you do the duchene trade out of Colorado
