Run away screaming to save himself? Nope. His little 7-year-old self tries to take on this adult all by himself to defend his sister.
I related to George Banks on a personal level when I was in school. All the kids who went to school with me had someone to talk to when they were in trouble, and going to their parents wasn't an option, like friends, grandparents, aunts, uncles, but not me.

@@greateststuff I read somewhere, that after graduating college, he and his brother traveled around Asia. When they visited India they got dreadfully sick from eating Hindi food. His brother recovered; but Matthew contracted Hepatitis. Which soon caused a fatal form of pancreatitis.

One of my preachers is in his late 70's or 80 years old and says that he's so old that his hands shake and he can't write as well as he used to when he was younger. My grandaunt, who is 81 years old, says the exact same thing. These people are both younger than Dick van Dyke, who is 99 years old. I am afraid that he might die after he receives my letter.
Everyone says Dick Van Dyke's accent in this movie is the worst ever. Is that because it's so broad it sounds more like he's making fun of it than doing an earnest attempt, or because he doesn't get the pronunciation right? I mean, I get that it's bad, I just don't get why it's the worst ever.
I watched this movie a lot when I was little and never really took notice of the accent until yesterday (several years since I last watched it). I remember being confused when I was told about the accent for the first time and was like "Really?". It's not the best accent in the world, especially for an American actor doing so for the first time with little to no coaching beforehand. But in a way, it adds some sort of charm to the movie.
Diagnosis: Heartwarming.
