I am a retd Mariner. In Oct 1969 I flew from Cochin to Madras in a Viscount of IAC It was in the Monsoon Rains and heavy through out-I was seated on Left 1 (forward) The Pilots Door was open throughout as the door lock was loose. The Pilot had the aircraft on Autopilot through out, was relaxed and occly looked at the dials and controls and was reading a Joke book &Laughing . When we were about to land he noticed the door open and me Observing ; Hastily shut the door LOL Can never forget the trip. Cheers CaptTR Retd

Please note . In Oct 1969, you could not have flown in a Viscount from Cochin to Madras. At that time IAC operated HS 748 aircraft. The Flt No: IC 504 , from Cochin to Coimbatore to Bangalore to Madras

This box on the wall near the Commander's seat is a radio selector - you use it to select which radio you want to use for transmission&reception. And that "smart" device is called a gust lock - it locks the flight controls and prevents andvancing the throttles more than 1/2 accidently during taxi

Is the wheel at 2:45 for autopilot manual mode?

Never flew it but I'd bet it's the nosewheel tiller.

Thats the rudder trim wheel. The autopilot is the panel ahead of the flap lever on the centre console. Its the one with the smaller rotary knob.

@@iainp93 I saw the rudder trim, I was referring to the half wheel near the pilot's left knee.

@@gerardmoran9560 definitely the nose wheel steering. It was the first aircraft I flew for a living. If the nose wheel tyres weren’t correctly inflated it was like taxiing a shopping trolley through that tiller!
