    Thanks so much! I wouldn’t consider myself a ‘handy’ person who’s good at fixing things. But I followed this video and fixed my lens! Thank you so much for this video!

    Thank you for this video. My lens first broke in 2016 when it fell and got stuck on the lens. It cost me £90 to get it fixed. Then later in 2022 the inner glass randomly dropped out when the camera was auto focusing, and again got stuck on the body of the camera. This time i decided to fix it on my own, i couldn't have done it without this video. So thank you, this saved me a trip to the camera store and valuable money just now.

    Thank you very much. Very clear video that enabled me to repair my lens with a similar fault (the mechanism was complete, but was free to fall out at certain focus positions).

    If the metal retaining ring, and second reinforcing ring in the main lens body come out while it is disassembled (or sometimes i've seen the main ring work loose so you can see both rings through the gap between lens body and lens element, and the lens feels loose inside), it can be a pain to get them back in properly aligned. I believe the thinner ring goes in first. There are 6 possible positions for it to fit properly with the gaps on the outside edge of the ring engaging with the 3 tiny bayonet protrusions in the body. Try at 0 degrees, 120 degrees, 240 degrees, and then flip it upside down and try again. When it is in the right position, you should be able to turn the ring clockwise by a couple of degrees and it should engage with the bayonets in the main body and hold the ring firmly in place. The second ring just sits ontop of the first ring. Again, 6 ways this ring can go in, so try all positions until you find one where the gaps on the inside edge of the ring line up exactly with the gaps on the inside edge of the first ring beneath it. At this point, they are aligned correctly and you should be able to insert the main lens element assembly into the main body, rotate to lock, and secure with the clip. Sorry I dont have pictures, but the words should make sense when you have it infront of you in pieces :)

      I understand what you mean... It happened to me long ago, and it took me a while to figure out which position I have to put it back. But thank you for the tip!

    If you are looking for new adhesive to replace damaged or old adhesive that you cleared off on auto focus covers or infact any application where flex cables, or covers need to be stuck down, then you should get a selection of widths of 3M 9448A Double Sided Adhesive Tapes. They're available in widths from 1mm to 100mm, come in black, white or transparent, and are super thin when applied. They are available for next to nothing on a popular auction site. A roll will last you a lifetime.

      Try to disassemble and reassemble the lens again, and make sure that the gears are connecting to the inner lens part, and the AF / MF switch engages the gears.

    What is the common issue on these lenses? I've got one for really cheap, and didn't have a chance to fix it yet. Thanks.

      The only problem I encountered is the inner part of the lens breaks and falls off of the lens. (Like in this video.)

    6:27 these "wedgies" fall out so easily after they are put in places. whats the point of them then? im pretty sure they'll go loose if i assemble like this

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  10 місяців тому

      Those are holding the two parts of the lens together. Try to put back the "wedgies" the other way (one side is flat the other side is a wedge... the wedge should go inside).

      Well, sometimes it is just not worth to spend your time on repairing the broken lenses, sometimes it is better to buy a new one.

    They are not PH Phillips screws, they are Japanese JIS screws and you need a special JIS screwdriver because if you damage the screw it is almost impossible to remove it without breaking the plastic so be very careful

      @@CamerasLensesEtc Thanks to you for such good videos. A question, how do you do to clean the lenses and why not have a white layer that only looks when the light hits them from the side?

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  4 роки тому

      I clean the lenses with microfiber cloth, pure alcohol, airpump and brush. I have a few videos about it.
      I don't understand this: "why not have a white layer that only looks when the light hits them from the side".

      If you are working with the new lenses with loose screws, it's ok-ish. However... If you try Philips on old FD lenses - there is absolutely NO WAY you can disassemble them with the Philips.

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  2 роки тому

      Maybe they were fallen out of the lens. Those two small wedges are used to keep the lens in one piece. If you don't have them, you can use a very small dot of superglue on the plastic parts on the side of the lens to keep it together.

    The switch moves to AF when I rotates the focus ring in MF mode and then both are locked. Is a common mistake?

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't had that problem before. Remove the side cover, and make sure that the lever goes into the part which moves the focusing gears inside the lens. I guess the lever is in the wrong place, and that is causing the problem.

    These mostly plastic lenses are total crap. I have 2 of these and they have both fallen apart like this. I bought Canon's earlier model that has a metal mount. Never had a problem with those lenses.
