I discovered Rebekah del Rio today while reading a BBC movie review of the best movie since 2000, Mulholland Drive directed by David Lynch. It included a clip of the scenes from the Spanish musical theatre. Part of the show included Rebekah del Rio singing Llorado, the Spanish cover of Roy Orbosone's song, "Crying". I was transported by her singing and wondered why I have not heard of her before now. She deserves to be a world-wide star.
Agreed, but in a strange way I'm happy she isn't part of the machine of mainstream pop music. I know it's naive, but I hate to think of her artistry and talent being tainted by that American Idol/X Factor machine. I don't know the first thing about the technical side of singing, what makes a voice "great" or whatever, but I do know that Rebekah Del Rio's singing moves me like no one else's. It's got the real thing, whatever that is.
I agree. An awesome song. Its one of those rare songs that can like instantly and want to hear again. What is particularly awe-inspiring is that Rebekah can sit on the couch, "raw" like that and just sing; and sing so damn well. Could any Spanish speakers tell me what the words are that follow "ese" are? Bless you Rebekah..
@manskank0 -- I believe Elizabeth Ortiz must be playing bass off-camera. At least I THINK I hear a bass guitar too. Another amazing performance by Rebekah! She is my favorite living singer. I am in awe of her power and raw emotion and brilliant technique.
I have to think a lil just excited that I put your name in to listen to your slipper room track's. Been a min. and wow here you are looking great btw.. my god. Crazy but Im so happy. Been a fan so long. Im 36 since early 90s... So cool. How are you? Can you please put more songs up? You almost break my speakers as always.. Hope you are well. So happy.
Wow! I hear on the clip that she mentions an Elizabeth Ortiz? (its very softly spoken and cannot hear properly). But I cannot hear anyone else playing or singing in the room. I like your aunt's painting too!
@ aniramci -- None of her lyrics are on the Internet ... maybe this year she'll achieve the fame she deserves and she can hire a publicist to post lyrics on her website. I play a couple of her songs. I had trouble with a few Spanish lyrics. You can get a tiny $30 digital recorder from Radio Shack and play a particular phrase for Spanish speakers you know to get help here and there.
Ese me llevó, ese me llevó, ese me llevó hasta el cielo lindo. Ese me juró, ese me juró, ese me juró que me iba a dar el mundo. Aaaaaa, a ver. Ese me dijo, ese me dijo, ese me dijo unas palabras tan dulces. Ese me llenó, ese me llenó, ese me llenó el alma con luces. Aaaaaa, a ver. Aaaaaa, a ver. Aaaaaa, a ver. Vamos a ver. Ese me cantó, ese me cantó, ese me cantó unas bonitas canciones. Ese me contó, ese me contó, ese me contó unas bellas historias. Aaaaaa, a ver. Aaaaaa, a ver. Aaaaaa, a ver. Vamos a ver. Ese me dejó, ese me dejó, ese me dejó con un gran vacío. Ese me quebró, ese me quebró, ese me quebró el corazón entero. Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Vamos a ver...cómo voy a vivir sin él. Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Aaaaaa, a ver Oh, ese, oh, ese.
