Salvaged Door Christmas Tree // Black Dog Builds

- In this episode, Mike takes a salvaged, four-panel door and upcycles it into a free-standing Christmas tree with a rustic modern twist. With the creative use of our Festool track saw, he cuts two pie shapes off the rectangular door leaving the core of a 6-foot tall tree.
He then uses some old barn wood to create a frame and ironwood to make a stand. These timeless, maintenance-free, "trees" may be the answer to that old door you've had sitting around for years, knowing it will be perfect for something one day!

Love the build! I can honestly that the Festools look like they really suck! Great looking tools. Makes me want to go to my parents old house AND the barn, look for some old doors and start working.
You know our tools have a rough life, we've seen things explode, catch on fire, break, etc. The festools just keep coming back for more, definitely worth the investment! Barns definitely have treasures waiting to be upcycled, happy treasure hunting! - Tay

I did it myself with the Woodglut plans. I think this is the best way to find out how to build it.

We appreciate the comment! If you notice, when Mike is sanding the majority of the paint from the door, he's using our Festool sander and vacuum combo. It's hard to believe, but this dust collection system gets rid of almost all the dust made from sanding. That being said, you're right to be cautious of lead paint. We have simple test kits we use before we start builds. Cheers!
