Hey Warren. Love your videos. About the turbo. When those vanes get stuck you can soak the unison ring and all the vanes in oven cleaner (just make sure it has Sodium Hydroxide in it). That will completely remove the carbon build up. Did it on a turbo I built for my LBZ. Just don't get the oven cleaner on the aluminum. It'll eat it.
BTW, LB7's were Borg Warner waste gated units and every generation after has VGT. LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML, and L5P.
Have a good one. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻

Those rings are used to scrape carbon build up off of the piston. All the build up (trucks conforming to newer emissions standards, EGR, DEF, DPF etc.) Was causing liners to glaze in turn causing issues w/ massive blow by and oil consumption.

Looks like typical Pacific Northwest climate change weather to me, Warren. Lol
It's the exact same weather I grew up with in the early 60s all the way till now. The winds through the gorge are something else too.
Watching you with that flashlight in your mouth cracked me up, I still do that now and I have headlamp. Hahaha... Old habits are hard to break my friend. The pistons on that Paccar engine look pretty clean for 800,000 miles. I expected a whole lot of carbon buildup from the emissions system. Quite surprised actually. I guess the good news is that you won't be worrying about putting it back together until you get back from your vacation.

Well I’ll tell you, the farmers in western Canada would love to see that snow for the crops. We had a pretty short winter and not much precipitation for planting season in the future. I have an old joke for you. What’s the difference between a farmer and a baby? A baby stops crying when you give him a bottle. Hahahahaha. You don’t need a headlamp, you need a floodlight under the truck, just like the old school. Started doing a clutch job on a Peterbilt today and broke out the old flood light, works great. Not LED but old-school incandescent, keeps you kind of warm in the winter if you know what I mean.

I noticed this video is about a year old. Just wondering how the rebuild is doing. My paccar mx13 developed a hydrolock the last trip out. My mechanic who is certified with paccar motors, recommended not doing a rebuild and to just put another motor in the truck. He said he has had trouble with the head gasket holding up. The turbine turns upwards of 20,000 rpm..any imbalance is greatly magnified, which causes bearing and seal failures, and, there could be cracks in the wheel itself caused by the impact- it could fail and ruin the housing... Hopefully a new turbine wheel is affordable enough to replace.

    • @stevehetrick2676

Turbos spin upwards of 110,000 RPM's ,so perfectly balanced wheels are an absolute must... If there is any damages, replace. Period.

Hey not sure if it’s deleted, but if it’s not there are 2 exhaust lines about 1/4 in diameter, one of them is like 2 feet long. I think saw it on that bench, make sure it’s not plugged because when it’s plugged it will run like shit and have no power it reads manifold pressure I think. That might be why the turbo was seized from never being told to actuate.

Hi from Ukraine, I have a problem with the John Deere 7600 tractor with powershift transmission, at low engine speeds the transmission makes strange sounds, sounds like something rattelling around, is strongly audible in the rear of the tractor, when the engine speed increases to 1200 rpm and above the noise subsides , maybe you had similar situations? The input shaft, yoke, bearings on the shaft are replaced with new ones. I will be grateful for any answer.

Warren, I have a address for a company you need to talk to. You will be able to get all your turbo, injection pumps, and injectors in one place. It is all they do! They rebuild and supply parts for all makes. L will look up and send info shortly! They have everything, they supply everyone, dealers, mechanics like your self, and even do remods per request to your needs and have test equipment to prove their work before they ship, 50 years in business.
